INTRODUCTION

By participating in the process of specialization and the international division of labor, international trade allows national resources to be used more efficiently International trade boosts production capacity and raises the living standards of individual countries as well as the entire world International trade stimulates consumption, production expansion, technology transfer, and investment among countries, laying the groundwork for economic development As a result, the majority

of countries around the world now regard international trade as the most important factor in their economic development policies and strategies

Vietnam considers international trade as a priority in order to develop the country toward industrialization, and the government is always focused on taking appropriate steps Imports assist Vietnam in acquiring modern manufacturing machinery, technology, and techniques However, if a country imports too much, it will run out of foreign currency capital to pay foreign countries; at this point, exporting is the best solution Exports are said to be the most important source of capital for imports Furthermore, exports contribute to the ability to expand consumption markets, thereby creating conditions for production to develop and stabilize Moreover exports have a positive impact on job creation and the quality of people's lives

Recognizing the significance of this issue, | chose the topic “THE PROCESS

OF EXPORTING PLASTICS BAGS FROM VIETNAM TO MALAYSIA BY SEA THROUGH FCL AT SAIGON NEWPORT LOGISTICS” for my internship report after three months of fact-finding at the organization This report has 3 main parts, includes:

(Source: Website Saigon Newport Corporation) SNP has achieved several notable victories and solidified its market position over its 33-year history Saigon Newport Corporation, with subsidiaries in three areas of Vietnam, is reaffirming its position as a prominent container terminal developer and operator in Vietnam, thanks to the transition of the business model to parent - subsidiary

in 2006 To create a complete ecosystem that offers a wide range of services to customers, the company has expanded its commercial operations to almost all industries related to sea transport, including port operation, logistics services, transportation, warehousing, etc

Furthermore, in order to serve the production and business activities at SNPL, the corporation places a high value on the application of scientific and technological advances such as TOPX, TOPOVN management software are used to help Cat Lai port exploit and improve efficiency, the operational efficiency of information technology systems based on new technologies, while also assisting in the improvement of data management, customer transactions, and so on As a result, Cat Lai Port was the first in Vietnam to welcome ships weighing more than 160,000 DWT in 2017, and the port's handling capacity has already surpassed 40,000 DWT This is due to efficient operations and ongoing cargo handling capacity improvement

- Mission: Creating and effectively implementing the company's duties and business objectives Innovating equipment and constantly enhancing personnel credentials and professional capabilities Effective capital management and use Investing in huge initiatives to help enhance corporate efficiency

Although the number of companies providing large logistics services increased

in 2011, the situation of providing logistics services with added value was low, owing

to market and product overlap, adding links between companies and members have not fully exploited the advantages of the Corporation, so the cost of competition is low, economic efficiency is not high Recognizing this issue, on July 15, 2012, the Corporation established the Newport Logistics Service Center (Saigon Newport Logistics - SNPL) to address these issues and achieve the goal of providing logistics services It is also a cohesive entity, concentrating resources, making extensive investments, and improving service quality as the second pillar in the Corporation's development business direction The core and important entity of Saigon Newport Corporation, SNPL, connects and coordinates the logistics operations of all logistics facilities and member firms performing logistics services in the SNP system SNPL is combining and adapting the benefits of facilities as well as the standard forms of SNP's business services to provide clients with customized logistics solutions tailored to their specific requirements The CEO was also in charge of organizing and expanding the SNPL machinery in a systematic and orderly manner Contribute to the organization chart of the Corporation's refinement

College 5 3.9

(Source: Saigon New Port Logistics) According to the data presented above, the majority of the SNPL workforce is well- educated, especially at the Undergraduate level Undergraduate and postgraduate education account for 96.1%, with college education accounting for about 4% This demonstrates how carefully the Center recruits human resources As a result, nearly all of the company's employees are highly trained and skilled, and they must adhere to the standards of Saigon New Port Logistics in particular, and the Saigon New Port Corporation in general

In terms of human resources, SNPL is brimming with young blood, with 73.4%

of employees aged 25 to 35, demonstrating that the company's work is always centered

on long-term sustainability This youthful human resource will breathe new life into a long-standing established firm like SNPL, pushing the innovation process, due to its flexibility, dynamism, creativity, and fresh ideas They are critical to the success of the business innovation strategy, assisting in the improvement of operations and business performance, thereby increasing the company's market competitiveness

1.3 Business activities’ results in 2017 - 2021 of SNPL

Table 1.4 Revenue of SNPL from 2017 to 2021 (unit: million VND)

24

Trang 25

Total 474,122 527,393 631,950 788,325 1,297,404

(Source: SNP’s Business Planning Department) According to the accompanying composite chart, Saigon New Port Logistics’ revenue increased significantly between 2017 and 2021 The period 2019-2021 experienced the highest growth rate of 51%, followed by the period 2018 -2019 at 17% and the period 2017-2018 at 10%

In general, SNPL's service revenue is unbalanced Road transport contributes the most, while air transport contributes the least Road transport collection, in particular, accounts for 79% of total revenue in 2021, reaching 1.1 billion VND, and this figure is expected to rise further in the coming years SNPL also has a significant advantage in that it owns 295 trailers and manages over 200 "satellite" units In terms of air transportation, 2021 returns a total income of 649 million VND Although this amount represents a minor portion of the total revenue structure, it is still an important service

in the SNPL

Furthermore, while revenues of customs declaration services are typically increasing, the rate of growth is slow and uncertain In particular, the period 2017-2018 rose by only 1.4%; the period 2018-2019 rose by 0.5%; and the period 2020-2021 rose

by 15.7% In 2021, customs declaration contributed about 2% of SNPL's total revenue Because the shipments declared by the firm are FCL, and the company's clients are all customers signing long-term contracts, they will receive a significant discount, resulting

in a decrease in revenue for the customs declaration department

Table 1.5 Results of revenue and cost at SNPL from 2019 to 2021 (unit: million VND)

Revenue Cost Profit

2021, the enterprise's commercial operations are profitable, specifically:

In 2020, revenue increased by 156,375 million VND, over 2019 Concurrently, company operational expenditures increased; in 2020, they increased by 156,629 million VND compared to 2019

Revenue increased by 509,079 million VND, in 2021 compared to 2020 Expenses increased to 488,462 million VND Profit growth in 2021/2020 is expected

to be lower than in 2020/2019 Since then, the business market has become more competitive, with numerous competitors putting pressure on the corporation However,

Trang 26

thanks to the efforts of its employees and management, the company has produced positive results that help the economy thrive

The covid-19 outbreak shut down the entire global supply chain, halting all logistical activities As the pandemic subsided, the company was forced to invest more

in order to restore production and business, as well as maintain machinery and equipment, which increased logistics costs However, as the global economy impro ves,

so will the demand for transportation, allowing businesses to keep profits high despite rising logistics costs

As can be seen, SNPL's income increased between 2019 and 2021 Revenue growth shows that investment is being carried out effectively and efficiently Investments in the development of competent human resources, facilities, and infrastructure, in particular, have aided SNPL’s growth The company focuses on long- term development and training high-quality human resources; while this may increase costs in the early years, it will help improve worker and company operational efficiency

in the long run Furthermore, the Board of Directors is constantly pushing for larger clients and partners to generate significant revenue for the Center Furthermore, SNPL employs the best business strategies, such as cultivating strong interactions with potential clients, developing efficient employees, and effectively investing in the number of trucks needed to adequately service the sales department

Furthermore, due to the dynamism of the sales department employees, the firm has always attempted to attract new more customers, while other departments have effectively coordinated to deliver the best performance to boost customer trust and choice Because SNPL is a long-standing and well-known company in the market, it already has a number of loyal customers and is a reputable business partner of major shipping lines such as Maersk, K-line, and Interasia, it should benefit from preferential rates, allowing it to provide optimal policies to customers while also lowering company costs

However, the reason for the steady increase in costs during that time period is primarily due to an increase in the cost of goods to serve the need to recruit more high-quality drivers to expand and develop long-distance transport services and international transportation in a scarce driver market, creating wage pressure, rewarding the driver section

to significantly increase the Center's salary fund Furthermore, the State agency's policies, such as road surcharges and fluctuations in fuel prices in the petroleum market, have a significant impact on the Center's business operations as well as the management mechanism Because the reason is still limited, shipping lines impose a number of inappropriate and unreasonable sea freight surcharges, resulting in an additional cost burden for SNPL Finally, the Center's profit increased significantly for a variety of reasons The Center has an appropriate business strategy, selects and evaluates the right products, strengthens relationships with potential customers, and develops an effective workforce Furthermore, the Center has reduced some unnecessary manpower and effectively invested in the number

of trucks needed to adequately serve the cargo handling department Not only that, but SNPL has long been a reliable business partner of major shipping companies such as Maersk, K- line, and Interasia, allowing them to benefit from lower freight rates, which helps the company save money

1.3 Strategic direction:

In order to successfully implement the strategic goal of developing Saigon New Port Corporation into a strong marine economic group in the field of port operation services and logistics services in Vietnam, in accordance with the State's defense - marine economic areas planning and development orientation, the Ministry of National Defense, and The Navy, associated with strengthening the construction of port areas of Saigon New Port Corporation Saigon New Port Corporation defines the corporation's strategic view to develop sustainable business on three pillars: port operation, logistics services, sea transport, and offshore services, all of which are based on three core platforms: "Top-quality, customer-oriented service; advanced management, professional personnel of high quality; and military discipline, business culture and community responsibility”
