I THEORETICAL

The current situation:

2019 was a year of many changes for the Vietnamese tourism industry in particular and the worldwide tourism industry in general due to the impact of Covid-19 Traditional tourism was seriously affected, so the application of virtual reality tourism has emerged as an option to deal with the effects of Covid-19.The application of virtual reality tourism products into travel programs promptly met the travel needs of tourists at that time Currently, it 1s still gradually developing and catching up with the digitalization trend in the 4.0 era It is expected to have a strong position in the global tourism industry

1 Definition: What is virtual reality tourism? Before learnmg more about virtual reality tourism, we first need to know what virtual reality technology is

- Virtual reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulating environment This environment is contemplated through a device known as: Virtual Reality glasses or helmet

- Virtual Reality Tourism - (VRT) is a type of tourism that uses virtualization technology to create intuitive, vivid and exciting travel experiences for tourists Through the use of virtual reality devices such as VR glasses or controllers, visitors will experience traveling in a realistic and lively space, giving the feeling of directly exploring places tourist destination

At some tourist destinations in Vietnam, VR technology have been applied to bring new experiences to customers such as:

- A virtual tour to explore Moc Chau in the Northwest has been carried out, giving visitors real-life experiences with places that have been digitized in a 3D environment such as Dai Yem waterfall, pine forest nm Ang village Or Virtual reality tour of Son Doong cave (Quang Binh) takes visitors through the caves with sharp 360-degree images and sound systems associated with the landscape

- Sun World Ba Na Hills tourist area in Da Nang, visitors can experience a series of virtual reality games and activities such as skiing, adventure in the Himalayas, traveling on a magical train, racing on a mountain peaks, and participate in virtual world exploration activities

- Ha Long Wonderpark tourist area in Quang Ninh has opened a VR game room, allowing visitors to explore the beauty of Ha Long Bay and famous landmarks of Vietnam - Vinpearl Land Nam Hoi An, visitors can participate in virtual reality experiences with a variety of activities such as skiing, conquering Mount Everest

In addition, some travel companies also apply virtual reality technology to their tours such as Exotissimo Travel, allowing customers to experience tourist destinations in Vietnam such as Ha Long, Hue, Hoi An, etc through a VR application

Finally, VR provides a safety traveling experience People don’t have to worried about health problems or risks , If tourists are planning to take an adventure tour, they can also use these experience as a tool to help them overcome fears or uncertainties before decide whether they should make a plan for the tour or not

2 Final thought on the research into improving travel experiences in Viet Nam through VR technology

Vietnam is known as a country with huge tourism potential However, the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously affected the tourism industry.So that, the application of professional technology such as VR (Virtual Reality) is considered extremely urgent for the tourism industry In the 4.0 technology revolution, Vietnam cannot stand out of the race to develop a VR tourism model, and needs to devote strong research and investment to it However, VR tourism should be a complementary tool to traditional tourism, rather than a complete replacement Combining both will certainly give visitors new experiences and also help increase customer satisfaction after every trip
