1.1 Workshop summary

1.1.1.Career and Career readiness

Students answer a number of questions related to their current status, interests, and plans From there, students understand what their strengths are, what their desires are, and should start thinking about plans for their future career

1.1.4 Attitude

Attitude is a term that encompasses the way you view and approach problems in your life Attitude includes your internal thoughts and external expressions Attitude is an emotional state expressed by human behavior

In psychology, attitude is a psychological construct, a mental and emotional entity inherent in or characteristic of a person, or their attitude is their approach towards something, or their personal views about it

Attitudes relate to their thoughts, views and feelings

The idea is that hiring people who have the nght work ethic and mindset is more crucial than hiring people who have specific technical skills The reason is that

employees with the right attitude and mindset can acquire the skills they need for the job

to distinguish between what is truth and what is fake information or unreliable data Critical thinking is a tool to improve your knowledge of the world at large

In summary, critical thinking is a set of strategies to guide you away from biased, emotional decisions and toward rational consideration of your actions and beliefs Problem-solving skills

A problem is simply defined by Robertson (2001) as something with three parts including an initial state, a solution path, and a goal In a problem, either the solution path or the goal is unknown

Dewey’s Reflective thinking process includes 5 steps:

e Identify the “felt difficulty or concern”

e Think about the “location and definition” of the problem

e Ask what the possible solutions to the felt difficulty are

e@ Determine what additional testing and observation need to be done to confirm the validity of the solution

It is important to understand the problem: If you don’t understand the problem, you will struggle to find a solution no matter how good you are at problem solving

The workshop proved to be an invaluable opportunity to delve into the intricacies of career planning and development, prompting me to reflect deeply on my own aspirations and goals The introduction of the concept of 'ikigai', a Japanese term that translates to "a reason for being”, resonated deeply as it empowered me to seek a balance between my passions, skills, the world's needs, and potential remuneration Additionally, the workshop presented a practical 'career choice formula’ that elegantly captured the interplay of skills, attitude, values, and habits in shaping career success

The workshop provided a wealth of information and resources to assist in identifying and developing my skills, particularly those essential for employability across diverse fields The Employability Skills Framework, a comprehensive set of skills and attributes, was meticulously explained, categorized into the broad areas of applied knowledge, effective relationships, and workplace skills Furthermore, the workshop delved into the concept of core skills for work in context, emphasizing adaptability and responsiveness to the ever-changing demands of the workplace

The Career Management Skills Framework, a roadmap for planning and managing career development and transitions, was also introduced Additionally, the workshop shed light on the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework, a system that outlines the levels and types of qualifications within the education and training system in Vietnam The workshop's emphasis on attitude, values, and habits highlighted their profound impact on both career and personal growth Through self-reflection, I was able to identify and evaluate my own attitude, values, and habits, setting SMART goals for continuous improvement SMART goals, characterized by specificity, measurability, achievability, relevance, and time-boundness, provide a clear path for personal development

The workshop culminated as a rich and engaging learning experience, significantly enhancing my career awareness and readiness The workshop's insights will undoubtedly serve as a guiding light as I navigate my career journey

1.2.2 Personal perspective

The workshop on career planning and development was a transformative experience that provided me with the tools and insights to embark on a fulfilling and meaningful career journey The introduction of the Japanese concept of 'ikigai’, meaning "a reason for being”, resonated deeply with me, as it emphasized the importance of aligning my career

aspirations with my passions, skills, and the needs of the world This concept shifted my perspective from solely seeking financial rewards to pursuing a career that aligns with my intrinsic motivations and contributes positively to society

The 'career choice formula’ presented in the workshop served as a valuable framework for making informed career decisions It highlighted the interconnectedness of skills, attitude, values, and habits, emphasizing the need to develop a holistic approach to career planning This formula empowered me to recognize that career success is not solely determined by technical skills but also by personal attributes and a positive mindset Identifying and developing my employability skills was a crucial aspect of the workshop The Employability Skills Framework provided a comprehensive roadmap to acquiring the essential skills required for success in the workplace The framework categorized these skills into three broad areas: applied knowledge, effective relationships, and workplace skills This categorization helped me understand the diverse range of skills needed to thrive in today's dynamic work environment

The workshop also emphasized the importance of attitude, values, and habits in shaping my career path | was encouraged to cultivate a positive and proactive attitude, one that embraces challenges and views setbacks as opportunities for growth Additionally, the concept of SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) provided a practical tool for setting and achieving personal and professional goals

Overall, the workshop on career planning and development proved to be an invaluable experience that equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to navigate my career journey with clarity and purpose The workshop's emphasis on self-discovery and alignment with Ikigai inspired me to pursue a career that 1s not only financially rewarding but also personally fulfilling and contributes to the greater good
