ABSTRACT

In recent decades, the scarcity of natural resources is a major global concern In particular, the lack of land due to the explosion of world population, along with the excessive increase of industrial parks and the process of urbanization has put enormous pressure on countries The challenge, which requires researchers to find a solution and the Very Large Floating Structures (VLFS) has been proposed

In this master thesis, the Finite element method (FEM) is extended to cooperate with the boundary element method (BEM), namely, the BEM-FEM This method is applied to compute hydroelastic responses of a pontoon type very large floating structure (VLFS) under wave action and also subjected to a moving load The floating structure and the surrounding fluid are discretized by 9-node isoparametric finite elements (FE) and By 9-node constant boundary elements (BE), respectively Structural analysis is based on 0LQGOLQ¶V plate theory Then the Nemark integration method is employed to solve the equation of motion for structural system The numerical example part of the thesis is simulated by Matlab software The results are verified with the results of previous studies and commercial structural software Then, the plate is surveyed when changing important factors such as the arrangement of stiffness reinforcement, velocity of concentrated moving load, depth

of the seabed The results show displacement and drag force The displacement of the plate to decrease when the plate is reinforced The comparisons show very good agreement
