RATIONALE

Importance of tourism arises from the numerous benefits and advantages it brings to any host country But real importance of tourism comes from its nature and how it is defined & structured Tourism contributes towards complete growth and development of a country: one, by bringing numerous economic value & benefits; and, second, helping in build country's brand value, image & identity It boosts the revenue of the economy, creates thousands of jobs, develops the infrastructures of a country, and plants a sense of cultural exchange between foreigners and citizens Needless to say, tourism industry goes beyond attractive destinations, to being an important economic growth contributor.

THE TRANSLATED TEXTS OF THE TWO ARTICLES (FROM ENGLISH INTO VIETNAMESE)

1.1 Article 1: Vietnam’s Tourism Industry Can Recover By 2024, Research Suggests(Nghiên cứu đề xuất ngành du lịch Việt Nam phục hồi vào năm 2024)

Focusing on domestic travelers, considering new pricing models, and creating travel bubbles are some of the few points the Vietnam tourism sector needs to consider to speed up its recovery, according to research

Theo nghiên cứu, tập trung vào du khách trong nước, xem xét các mô hình định giá mới và tạo ra bong bóng du lịch là một số điểm mà ngành du lịch Việt Nam cần xem xét để tăng tốc độ phục hồi.

Tourism contributes a significant share to Vietnam’s GDP, and the fact that the country is tourism-dependent makes it more than a priority

Globally, before the COVID-19 pandemic, travel and tourism had become one of the most important sectors in the world economy — accounting for 10% of the GDP, more than 320 million jobs, and was worth almost $9 trillion, nearly three times larger than agriculture.

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, this pandemic, the first of its scale in a new era of interconnectedness, has put 100 million jobs at risk Reopening tourism-related businesses and managing their recovery in a way that is safe, attractive for tourists, and economically viable will require coordination at a level not seen before.

Furthermore, re-setting and rebuilding tourism to be more sustainable as the industry can't simply return to business as usual, there’s no going back to

At present, Vietnam’s tourism sector relies heavily on inbound travelers, which plunged in 2020 In fact, in October of last year, international flights dropped 80% from the same period a year earlier Hotels, in turn, filled only 30% of their rooms.

According to the latest piece of the McKinsey & Company’s Future of Vietnam series, which explores topics that will shape the country’s future growth, Vietnam can jumpstart its recovery sooner.

Despite the promising digits brought in by domestic tourists, Vietnam remains dependent on international markets, representing around $12 billion in spending.

In the same data provided by the consulting firm, Vietnam’s strong economic ties with Japan, China, South Korea, and Taiwan, and its huge percentage of Vietnam’s foreign tourism spending could lead to a relatively fast tourism-industry recovery compared with other key thường'

Trong cùng dữ liệu do công ty tư vấn cung cấp, mối quan hệ kinh tế mạnh mẽ của Việt Nam với Nhật Bản, TrungQuốc, Hàn Quốc và Đài Loan, và tỷ lệ chi tiêu du lịch nước ngoài khổng lồ củaViệt Nam có thể dẫn đến sự phục hồi ngành du lịch tương đối nhanh so với các điểm du lịch trọng điểm khác ở Châu tourist destinations in Europe and North America Additionally, to make the most of these ties, Vietnam has been pursuing a zero-case-first strategy since the start of the pandemic.

Basically, the zero-case-first strategy means the country only accepts travelers from countries where COVID-19 contraction rates are low, which means traveler's confidence level is relatively high It focuses on accelerating the demand recovery and exploring more active revenue- management strategies.

Furthermore, McKinsey & Company suggests, “by implementing the zero- case-first approach and taking into account Vietnam’s currently resilient local economy and proactive government campaigns, Vietnam’s tourism sector could recover to pre- crisis levels in 2024.

Driven by the return of domestic travel and if the country can maintain a low infection rate, its tourism sector can recover sooner but for that to happen, Âu và Bắc Mỹ Ngoài ra, để tận dụng tối đa các mối quan hệ này, Việt Nam đã theo đuổi chiến lược không trường hợp đầu tiên kể từ khi bắt đầu đại dịch.

Last week, I made the decision to end my decades-long hobby of collecting air miles and the habit of funneling my spending into travel loyalty programs The days of regularly planning international flights and staying at far-flung destinations are coming to an end Why so soon, you may ask?

For the past two months, I’ve been happily grounded in Saigon Vietnam’s lockdown has been a much more united and well-controlled effort than anywhere else on the globe And that’s no exaggeration As I’ve adjusted to life in one place, I’ve had more time to consider what the future holds for an industry that was riding record growth in Vietnam. suy nghĩ về tương lai sắp tới của ngành du lịch.

Vietnam’s roads have never been in better shape From Ho Chi Minh City, you can reach the beaches of Vung Tau (65 kilometers/40 miles away) and Ho Tram (85 kilometers/52 miles away) on the new city to coast expressways From Hanoi, the same can be said for its nearby destinations like Ha Long Bay And with the rise of domestic automakers, coupled with rising incomes, buying your own car or renting one for the weekend has never seemed more appealing.

This crisis offers an opportunity for Vietnam’s state-owned flagship carrier to reinvent itself Vietnam Airlines’ rapidly modernizing fleet and the opportunity to play the home card will strengthen its position as not just an essential service, but also as a carrier to be proud of.

LCCs (low cost carriers) serving the Vietnam market should be shuddering.

Popular ‘zero base’ fare tickets that made the fly-to-your “weekender” concept possible will come to an end Such trips will prove cost prohibitive to the average hơn đối với khách du lịch thông thường.

It doesn’t mean Vietnam Airlines will be bigger or enjoy a monopoly necessarily, but it’s now in a position to take more of a shrinking pie, at least for the next few years.

Shared shuttles and buses will remain the main option for the majority of price- sensitive Vietnamese travelers, but the standard for clean will never be higher.

Will we see a rise in more environmentally-friendly,independent ground transportation?

Airbnb hosts in Vietnam have long relied on arbitraging cheap long-term rentals in older, untidy buildings and marketing them as vintage, homey, or colonial to mostly Western tourists That will soon end And those that have spent thousands of dollars in converting these units will be scrambling to find long-term tenants.

The sharing economy will remain.

However, we’ll see the market share owned by local players like Luxstay who enjoy stronger local supply relationships mối quan hệ tốt hơn với các cơ sở lưu trú trong nước, có các căn hộ hiện đại hơn và phục vụ chủ yếu cho khách nội địa. with more modern buildings and cater to a mostly localized Vietnamese consumer.

Field:Based on the topic which is about tourism, this article’s main idea is about the future of Vietnam travel during and after COVID-19.

COMMENTS ON THE TRANSLATION

Tone and attitude: Neutral The authors have used a bright, concise journalism and the ideas are clearly communicated through text.

Language used: Formal, reflecting the essential content of the research, and in in- academic language

A Article 1: Vietnam’s Tourism Industry Can Recover By 2024, Research Suggests

Purposes: An article reporting the innovation of the tourism industry and the rapid recovery after the pandemic, stating 2 more years of revival by researchers.

Difficulties: In spite of familiar vocabularies, this article’s structure is complex and flexible with various types of personal reference In general, the vocabularies are not so complicated for readers to understand Including some special field words but there is not any confusion or dictionary needed In spite of it, the linking verbs and the lexical words have convinced readers that this article is academic enough with a high proportion of lexical density The difficulty of analysis is the Comparative Reference with “the same” used to refer to month and number It is confusing to define which subject this word replaces for Furthermore, the conjunction “since” which means

“from a particular time” and “because”, is usually misunderstood as a Causal Conjunction because of its ambiguity in meaning The biggest obstacle to me, I think, is the translation skills Although I can clearly understand every vocabulary, I can not translate them word by word since the translated script will be unnatural and meaningless For that reason, not only verbal skills, in the translation process, we need to educate ourselves profoundly about that topic and its field to understand the context and the main idea of the original article.

The difference in vocabulary systems can be perplexing for translators at times.

Because a word in the original language can have multiple meanings, selecting suitable and appropriate words for the target language text can be difficult In fact, a meaning, a concept, or a term's equivalence may not be found in the target language Another challenge is that some words have special connotations that the English word for the same thing does not convey In some cases, translators may find it appropriate or necessary to examine the English context and determine which Vietnamese word is appropriate This usually entails selecting from a number of different words, as there are numerous English words that can correspond to the general concept.

B Article 2: Phu Quoc Welcomes Its First International Visitors After Nearly Two Years

Purposes: Highlighting the importance of international visitors to the recovery of Phu Quoc tourism industry, bringing the probability of economic development after two years of global pandemic.

Difficulties: It’s difficult to remain such a long sentence in target text to make sure that it’s natural in meaning and grammatical point This article used a large number of Anaphoric References which refers to the subjects or objects before it, so that there are not many repetitions That can lead to the difficulty in finding the translated word to replace Because if we keep using pronunciation vaguely and uneffective, our interpretation will get confused and incorrect in comparison to the original text For that reason, it is believed that our wealthy word source and profound knowledge result in vivid and accurate translations Not only depends on the linguistic, it also depends on the context which is your information about tourism It is never easy to understand the main idea of the writers, the more complicated part is delivering their idea to our readers.

Differences in lexical and grammatical structure also pose challenges for me.

Inadequate knowledge in either of the two areas may result in poor translation quality.

English is a very flexible language when compared to other languages It adheres to very strict structures, whereas the Vietnamese language is much more adaptable due to the fact that it does not always adhere to rules Another challenge is that some words have special connotations that the English word for the same thing does not convey In some cases, translators may find it appropriate or necessary to examine the English context and determine which Vietnamese word is appropriate.

C Article 3: Tương lai của ngành du lịch và lữ hành Việt Nam

Purposes: Emphasizing the possibility of developing all kinds of travel agents in tourism aspect at Vietnam, addressing the rise of transportation needs among tourists.

Difficulties: In the question of linguistics, this article is excellent in using every element of semantics The appearance of Exophoric reference requires a translator to understand the mentioned situations It is believed that the reference helped writers avoid repetition using the possessive words, pronounce, “This, that, these, those”.

Moreover, the comparative reference makes the perfect comparison, yet requires a large amount of information about not only travel and tourism, but also geography, places and countries specifically The latter element also appears in the repetition

“Saigon” and “Ho Chi Minh city” As a Vietnamese translator, it is not complicated to recognize they refer to the same city, but it is not so easy for foreign ones who don’t know well about Vietnam The most difficult semantic element is substitution The word “one” used to replace “car” is not simple to analyze and translate The best thing I can do is find the most appropriate words according to my knowledge The article can not be understood word by word in the translated form We must understand the culture, the way they communicate for the most accurate information.

D Article 4: Du lịch hè: Chiến lược thúc đẩy nhu cầu từ các chuyên gia

Purposes: Undergoing plans to prepare for the demands of tourism after the pandemic.

Strategically boosting the economy of the country by promoting accommodation, transportation, and travel agency abide by safety regulations.

Difficulties:Because they do not understand the structure of English, translators frequently get stuck in the transition from Vietnamese to English This can happen if you translate each word, "word for word," making your sentence structure difficult to understand.

The difference in vocabulary systems can be perplexing for translators at times.

Because a word in the source language can have multiple meanings, selecting suitable and appropriate words for the target language text can be difficult.

With regard to the linguistics elements, this article is hard to analyze the general word.

It could easily be mistaken between general words and superordinate Plus, it is also complicated to define what subject it refers to.

Last but not least, Collocations are used naturally yet get difficult for translators because it is only popular for local people A collocation dictionary would be needed in this situation and a large amount of language fluency would be so helpful.

All in all, tourism is a crucial factor for a lot of economies and a main source of revenue for most countries around the world Additionally, tourism is a great opportunity for foreigners to learn about a new culture, but it also creates many opportunities for local citizens It allows young entrepreneurs to establish new products and services that would not be sustainable on the local population of residents alone.

Moreover, residents experience the benefits that come with tourism occurring in their own country.

Choosing tourism as a topic to target in translation is undoubtedly suitable since the whole industry is a driving key in every country’s development process However, translation is, in fact, an incredibly sophisticated task Translation demands a deep understanding of both grammar and culture Translators need to know the rules of a language as well as the habits of the people who speak it And even for the most experienced professionals, confusion and frustration are familiar feelings For that reason, translation requires not only theoretical lessons but also practiced skills In this report, translators faced a great number of problem of language structure, expressions, compound words, and of finding the most appropriate technique successfully conveying these aspects in the target language Despite hardships, I can purposely gain numerous of new knowledge by doing this report; perhaps the greatest perk from gaining the knowledge of translation is to comprehend so many aspect of a single work of translation, from the vocabulary itself to the grammar lying within the context.
