UNIT 17: OUR HOBBIES I OBJECTIVES By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: - know and use “like” and “enjoy” to talk about their hobbies II Language Focus Vocabulary: the lexical items related to the topic “Hobbies” Structures: Like + V-ing Enjoy + V-ing III PROCEDURES Stages Teacher’s activity Student’s activity Warm up Pre-teaching (the T can choose one activity from these) - Talk with the T - Have a small talk with the students about their friend/idol/anything - Give out results of homework - Check homework - Correct homework on notebook if needed Vocabulary - Provide some new words that the students may have in the lesson - Listen to T Suggested new words: + dolphin (n) + towel (n) - Answer the T’s questions - Repeat the new words, note on their notebook what needed Purpose Help the student to brainstorm about the topic Provide new knowledge which is included in the lesson for the student Note + hockey (n) + skating (n) - Ask students to listen and repeat the new words - Check understanding the new words Grammar: Like + V-ing Enjoy + V-ing - After ‘like’ and ‘enjoy’ we use the -ing form of the verb - Take some examples and check understanding - Ask S to write down needed grammar points Whileteaching Task A Listen and draw lines - the exercises - Ask the S to look at the picture and predict what through the T’s are they doing instructions - Practice the knowledge they have learnt in “presentation” stage - Instruct the S to write down quickly the words - interact in English as their hear and draw lines to match activities to much as possible people - Interact in English with the T to improve reflection - Instruct the S read through questions and underline the key words in question - Play the tape for the S to listen twice - Let the S work individually to choose the best answer They need to be able to explain their choice as well - In tasks, T can give some more example if possible - Check and give feedback Task B Write the words under the pictures - Ask the S to look at the picture and predict the meaning of pictures - Instruct the S to write the words under the picture - Take an example for the S to understand - Have the S write the answers on the screen - Check the answers and give feedback Task C Choose the correct words from B and write them on the lines - Ask the S to read through sentences and underline the key words - Instruct the S to use the correct answer from B and write them on lines - Let the S work individually to choose the best answer They need to be able to explain their choice as well - Check and give feedback Task D Choose words from B Write the correct words next to numbers 1–5 - Ask the S to read through the passage and pay attention to signal word - Instruct the S to choose words from B to fill in the blanks - Let the S work individually to choose the best answer - Check answers and give feedback Task E Now choose the best name for the story about Vicky and Dan Tick (✔) one box - Instruct the S to read story about Vicky and Dan then tick (v) on the best name for this story - Ask the S to retell the main content of the story - Ask the S to look at the passage in D again and read through sentences - Instruct the S to use the only words from the passage in D to fill in the blanks - Check answers and give feedback Task F Listen, then tell the three word story! - Ask the S to read information tin the box and read sentences - Instruct the S to underline the key words in sentences and hear the signal words - Instruct the S to depend on the sentences and information in the box to tell story again - Check answers and give feedback G Play the game!
