As we all know, English is a new and relatively difficult subject for students Especially for rural students Therefore, the question of how to keep students interested in foreign language lessons is always a big question that all foreign language teachers want to find the answer to Learning English has many skills, in which speaking skill is an important learning skill skkn We cannot communicate without speaking To be successful in a conversation, one must hear and understand what the other person is saying Practically learning to speak is an important of the four skills But teaching speaking skills is sometimes looked down upon, they consider speaking skills unimportant To overcome that situation, the most effective measure is that each teacher must choose for himself an appropriate teaching method through his own research, experimentation and practical experience of teaching on the basis of theoretical understanding of teaching As a teacher at Nga Thien Primary School, I am always concerned about how to help children learn to speak well and be more interested in English That's why I boldly put forward: “Measures to enhance the quality of speaking English for grade students at Nga Thien primary school” This method I have applied in my teaching process and the results are very feasible Therefore, I boldly present my practical experience in front of my colleagues to exchange and learn in order to continuously improve my skills with the ultimate goal of making students more passionate about English 1.2 Research purposes Find out the status of classrooms, schools and local Nga Thien commune On that basis, proposing solutions to overcome the current situations in order to contribute to improving the quality of education 1.3 Research subjects: Some measures to help primary students develop English speaking skills 1.4 Research Methods a, Theoretical research method: - Read documents related to English subjects - Training on topics organized by the Department of Education and the School b, Practical research method: - Observe, investigate, survey, and statistic the real learning situation of students - Time colleagues c, Experimental method: - Applying classroom experiences (teaching some sample periods) 1.5 New changes in the initiative experience: - Teachers encourage students to follow the motto of trial and error If you don't put pressure on them, they will carry a heavy fear of making mistakes - Speaking practice must be systematic, continuous, following the motto from easy to difficult - Depending on the situation and training requirements, teachers need to prepare training methods suitable for many types of students - In practice, teachers have two main functions: one is to provide materials, help and answer difficult problems in terms of material and knowledge that students encounter; Second is to monitor, listen, and record the mistakes students make during practice to correct before the class after the students' speaking practice skkn - Teachers need to make the most of class time, creating every opportunity for students to use the material they have learned in a meaningful and effective way - Choose topics that are easy to develop, suitable for psychology, age and topicality such as about daily activities, about good movies being watched on television, about favorite sports of people you or about real people, real things - Teachers can ask questions of an antagonistic nature so that students can argue more enthusiastically CONTENT 2.1 Theoretical basis of initiative experience Communication skill in English is the ability of an individual to effectively convey and express his or her knowledge, experience, and views through the use of English to achieve the purpose of communication This skill is not an innate element, but is formed by experience rather than the mere acquisition of knowledge To achieve this skill, it is necessary to pay attention to the influencing factors: linguistic, psycho-emotional, skill, experience, social, educational, personal Thus, in order to form English communication habits for students right from primary school is extremely important, so that students have the habit of speaking English in and out of the classroom, teachers always have to come up with new methods of teaching and learning new to stimulate curiosity, curiosity and curiosity for new things In particular, teachers must be aware of their own roles and responsibilities in educating and teaching foreign languages to primary school students Appreciating the importance of English in today's society, the Ministry of Education and Training has made many innovations in the way of teaching and learning English in recent years, such as changing textbooks; changing teaching methods, improving the quality of English teachers On September 30, 2008, the Prime Minister issued Decision 1400/QD-TTg approving the Project "Teaching and Learning" foreign languages in the national education system for the period 2008-2020" Over 10 years of implementing the project, there have been positive changes in the teaching staff as well as the students There have been advantages as well as limitations According to the summary of the Ministry of Education and Training, in the process of implementing the foreign language Project 2020 has revealed limitations and failed to achieve the set goals for many reasons Seeing the importance and urgency of educational goals, the Ministry of Education and Training issued the decision No: “2080/QD-TTg dated December 22, 2017 on approving the adjustment and supplementation of the foreign language teaching and learning project in national education system for the period 2017 - 2025" with the goal of innovating foreign language teaching and learning in the national education system, continuing to implement new foreign language teaching and learning programs at all levels and levels training and improving the ability to use foreign languages to meet learning and working needs; strengthen the competitiveness of human resources in the integration period, contributing to the skkn construction and development of the country; create a foundation for universalizing foreign languages for general education by 2025 On August 10, 2018, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha signed and promulgated Directive No 2919/CT-BGDĐT on the main tasks of the 2018 - 2019 school year on improving the quality of teaching foreign languages, especially English English at all levels of education and training; building and developing a learning environment and using foreign languages, launching a movement of teachers and lecturers to study English together with students Strengthening foreign language teaching and learning on mass media Thus, learning foreign languages in schools is very important and urgent The general purpose of learning a foreign language is to communicate well to benefit study and work In learning foreign languages, speaking skill is one of the important skills, requiring learners to be good at listening, reading, writing skills, have a good vocabulary Good speaking skills help learners easily become more confident in front of the crowd, show personal bravery in all areas…such as communicating with foreigners, communicating at work, even easily finding a good job… Therefore English has become an essential subject in the primary education curriculum Because primary school students have some special abilities to learn foreign languages such as: ability to grasp meaning, ability to creatively use limited language resources, ability to learn indirectly, ability to integrate with activities play, memory, attention, student thinking, ability to respond and talk, the role of imagination.External factors that also directly affect students are the program, textbooks, teachers and conditions, the learning environment, and indirectly the family and social environment As the educational goal has been set out, primary school students need to achieve after finishing the current primary school English program is to understand and communicate in English in a basic way, so English teachers need to improve knowledge, regularly innovate teaching methods to help students take the initiative Taking students as the center of learning activities to help them promote their thinking, independence, develop learning ability, create passion and excitement for teachers and students in each lesson Create a passion for the subject of English to help them be qualified and achieve the level after completing primary school 2.2 The current state of the problem 2.2.1 General situation Along with the general change, English subject uses an important position, it helps us to create foreign relationships, it helps us to study and communicate with foreigners in many fields, because Learners must master speaking skills The goal of the language used is to communicate, to exchange people's ideas, but speaking practice is an important technical and most difficult to develop Many teachers believe that teaching English in primary schools, especially teaching grade 5, does not require effort, so that students can grasp the content of the lesson, leading to students not speaking fluently and afraid to speak skkn When teaching English in elementary school in general and teaching English practice in particular, it is necessary to pay attention to the level, to the physiological mind of the age of each primary school student object is to explore, creative, like to conquer, own yourself and be interested in new things At the same time, the teacher must understand their ability to use English From there to adjust the content, select appropriate teaching methods to in each lesson, Students at different levels are interested, working and developing Thus, the teacher must constantly learn, innovating teaching methods thoroughly in every lesson to help children actively and creatively learn as assessed by the Vice Minister of Education and Training Dang Huynh Mai “Must turn the teaching process into students' activities and self-study” Teachers must interact with children, help children operate and achieve better academic results 2.2.2 Situation for teachers and students: + Current status: At the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year of Nga Thien primary school + Favorable: - Received the close attention and direction of the Department of Education and Training of Nga Son district, of the school's management board in professional training and investment in facilities - Teachers can participate in pedagogical refresher courses and training on teaching methods Teachers are young, enthusiastic, dedicated to the profession, love students, have above-standard qualifications - Most of the students have good ability to absorb knowledge, some are gifted in English - They actively participate in competitions organized by the school - Parents strongly encourage their children to learn English because they know the importance of English in learning at high school levels -The English classroom has been invested with modern teaching equipment such as projector, computer, Internet - The subject is also interested by the school, some parents, teachers and organizations - The students are obedient, many of them have a sense of self-discipline in learning - English teachers with standard qualifications, professional competence, enthusiasm for the profession + Difficult: - Textbooks often change, students have to get used to new methods and new ways of learning - Pictures used for the book are not enough to meet the learning and teaching needs of students and teachers - The school does not have a creative learning environment for students such as: studying with foreign teachers; practical experience to communicate in English; practice English communication outside of class time… - Most students pronounce and stress wrongly because they are influenced by regional accents, students are afraid to speak English in class due to many skkn different reasons such as: shyness, reticence, fear of teachers you laugh when you say the wrong thing, lack of confidence, are not self-disciplined in studying - The time to practice speaking English in class is not enough for all students, so most of the students have not yet voluntarily practiced in class and participated in the class seriously - In addition, the system of speaking exercises is not rich enough to attract students - Most of them are students in rural areas, so they don't have time to invest - Parents are not really interested, most of the students have difficult family conditions, lack of knowledge, uneven cognitive level - Some students are not proactive in learning - During class, they are still timid, afraid to read, afraid to speak, not speak correctly according to word stress and intonation of sentences Through monitoring the 5th grade students, I found that at first they were still timid, not confident in communication, many of them mispronounced, many of them read English like Vietnamese In order to accurately assess students' learning ability and learning needs, I conducted a survey on English speaking skills for grades 5A and 5B in the 2019 2020 school year, the survey results are as follows: Class/ block 5A 5B grade Number of students 30 28 58 Speak fluently Quantity % 16,7 14,3 15,5 Not fluent in speaking Quantity 13 11 24 % 43,3 39,3 41,4 Speaking with mistakes Quantity 12 13 25 % 40 46,4 43,1 From the actual results and the above data table, it shows that: The percentage of students who speak fluently is very small Students said that they still make mistakes at a high rate They also face many difficulties in the learning process 2.3 The solution used to solve problems: “Measures to enhance the quality of speaking English for grade students at Nga Thien primary school ” In order to help children see their progress in learning, teachers need to pay attention to the appropriateness in teaching, avoiding making too high demands on students In addition, teachers need to encourage students to learn according to the motto of experimentation and accept mistakes during practice In fact, there are students who know but not dare to speak for fear of making mistakes Some other children did not dare to raise their hands to speak for fear of saying the wrong thing and being laughed at and criticized by the teacher In my opinion, this is the psychological factor that foreign language teachers need to consider in order to help students get excited about learning or at least be more active during the lesson In order to create learning excitement for students and a joyful atmosphere in each activity, teachers need to organize activities outside of class time and skkn encourage students to participate in English speaking tests according to topics and main points To that, I implemented the following solutions 2.3.1 Steps to practice speaking: Depending on each lesson, we apply different teaching methods Basically, during speaking practice, the following procedures must be followed: a) Prepare to speak (Pre-Speaking) - Introduce the topic of the talk by asking some questions (Who, What, Where, How, Why) - Introduce new language knowledge if any or review what they have learned to make it easier for them to practice speaking b) Practice speaking with control (While-Speaking) - Students rely on pictures or suggested sentences to practice speaking - Students practice speaking individually, in pairs or in groups under the control of the teacher c) Practice speaking freely (Post-Speaking) - Call on a few pairs of students to practice speaking - Students apply language knowledge to apply in practice The teacher asks the students to practice speaking new sentences that they have just learned in their own languages without the teacher's support The activities of this section are usually games, role-playing They can use additional grammar or vocabulary they already know to improve their speaking skills Teachers provide support when students need it + Students practice speaking in pairs: Students are more self-aware in working in groups because they often learn and practice Example: A speaking practice lesson in class 5B at Nga Thien TH School Unit 8: What are you reading? Lesson 1; part 2: Point and say Example: A What are you reading? B I’m reading a story about Halloween Students practice speaking according to pictures, the teacher directs skkn Students of grade A practice in front of the class - The teacher assigns the task - Students practice speaking - Teachers monitor, comment and correct errors (+) Students practice speaking in big groups: The teacher assigns tasks to the group, in which the group leader directs and monitors the group members when performing their words, then reports back to the teacher so that the teacher can promptly reward, receive students, and correct errors children - For example: Unit 17: What would you like to eat? Lesson 1: Lessons 1, / page 45 English Textbook 5, volume Students of grade 5A practice in groups skkn 2.3.2 Practice pronunciation skills, stress stress, intonation in words and sentences to help them speak English more naturally - English is an accented language This means that some words and syllables are often more important than others - The purpose of helping students to pronounce is to properly stress the word stress and say the correct intonation of the sentence, to create a habit of quick reflexes, for students to answer questions - Guide students on how to learn pronunciation, stress and intonation in words and sentences through specific lessons Step 1: Guide students to put stress and intonation of words and sentences Step 2: Have students listen to the tape and have them repeat it several times Step 3: Ask students to read individually, students read in pairs, groups, in front of the class (Teacher corrects mistakes); Step 4: Guide students to practice reading at home Example: Applying the way to practice pronunciation, stress and intonation skills in Lesson (Part 1: Listen and repeat) of the lessons (grade English book, volume 1,2) Unit 2: I always get up early How about you ? Lesson Part Listen and repeat Page 22 English Textbook Grade 5, Volume Unit 17: What would you like to eat ? Lesson3: part 1: Listen and repeat Page 22 English textbook grade 5, volume skkn 10 To improve and develop English speaking skills for students, teachers need to persistently practice pronunciation for students to make them have the habit of stressing and correct pronunciation Because, if they initially learn English but not pronounce it correctly, it will become a habit that will have a bad influence in the process of learning and communicating later Here, I would like to give some knowledge that teachers need to forge students when teaching speaking skills to students Teach students how
