Townlands Project Plan Objectives of Project The Townlands Recreation Site Project now has four clear objectives, approved by the trustees (AG Parish Council) based on residents and children’s views Carry out the recommendations of the Ecological survey in respect of the Wild Area, the site boundaries and the creation of a hay/wildflower meadow in the Grass Area In the wild area provide nesting and feeding habitats for the benefit of wild life and seats and nature trails for the residents and children Increase appropriate planting of shrubs, trees, flowers and bulbs including native fruit trees that will benefit both wild life and residents Design and develop the Grass Area into a combination of natural play area with picnic site, grass games area and hay/wildflower area Project Plan Steps to Date Local resident consultation carried out October/November 2008 Ecological Survey carried out by Greensand Trust January 2009 Natural Play report provided by Greensand Trust January 2009 Report to Trustees (AGPC) with recommendations March 2009 Exhibition and Village resident consultation June/July 2009 Consultation report and draft proposals to Trustees (AGPC) September 2009 agreed and placed on web site A copy of the village consultation report was supplied to all those interested in volunteering including Aspley Guise Lowers School, with a letter thanking them for their support asking if they would still be interested providing voluntary support A copy of the village consultation report to placed on the web site – and summarised in the next newsletter First meeting of formal project group 22nd September 2009 Project Group The project working group consisting of Fran Fry, Tracy Willis, Andrew Wright (trustees) Lorna Walker (Greensands Trust), Codge Curtis, Laura Layton, Hester Finn, Mr & Mrs James (Residents) Gerry Ilifft resident expert on fruit trees Project Lead agreed by the group on 22nd September The group to meet monthly first meeting 22nd September 2009 The project group responsibilities to be: • Agree a detailed project plan and schedule of meetings • Provid progress reports to the Trustees (AGPC) on a monthly basis initially, reducing to quarterly after six months • • • • • Manage local fund raising events/donations Communicate project progress via the Parish Council web site and newsletter on a regular basis Ensure all confirmed volunteers are involved meaningfully in the project Provide communication on dates and times of scheduled work on the site in order that other residents may participate as willing to so Project Lead and Chair of P3 to liase on plans and activities to ensure effective communication in taking the project forward Financial Accounting – the Charity Townlands will have separate bank account for Charity Townlands to receive funds and make payments as appropriate Signatories and accounting arrangements will be the same as for the Parish Council as they are trustees for the Charity Townlands Funding – funding will be sought from appropriate bodies in the form of grants, but importantly from local fund raising to achieve the objectives of the project An application be made for a Grass Roots/Wren Grant in respect of a small amount for the objectives for the Wild Area, and a second application to Community Spaces/Central Bedfordshire for the much larger amount required for the Grass Area objectives Next Steps and Timeline (colour change to green when complete) NB – Project work on the site will be carried out by Greensands Trust, P3 and local resident volunteers Contractors will only be considered as a last resort, and then only if funding allows Access to Townlands from Trunk Furlong to be resolved Time – Unilateral Interest registered with the Land Registry, until public right of way can be formalised in due course Access from Trunk Furlong and drainage ditch crossing to be made safe, and secure from non permitted vehicles Time- access over the ditch is safe, further work to be carried out once access (see 1) is formalised To be kept under review Local fund and profile raising events Time – ongoing Estimated costings for Wild Area objectives 1,2, & Time - October 2009 Application to Grass Roots for a grant of £3,345 Time October 2009 Mr Ilifft to provided recommendations for type and variety of fruit trees for the wild area Time October 2009 Phase One first winter of work on Wild Area Schedule: thinning and coppicing woodland area, planting fruit trees, planting bulbs and flowers Time – November – March 2009/10 (this can only be done in winter) Phase One second winter of work in Wild Area Schedule: thinning and coppicing woodland area, replacing fruit trees, restoring and laying hedgerows – this last will not be done but kept under review Identification of volunteer/volunteers to be trained and maintain bird boxes Time Autumn 2010 10 Themed Events and manufacture and site bird and bat boxes with training of identified volunteers to maintain Time – not done Bird and bat boxes installed March 2011 11 Estimated costing for Grass Area Project Objective Time – March 2010 12 Phase One of Grass Area - remove swings, site natural play equipment, picnic area equipment, grass play area equipment Ensure Insurance in place, and maintenance set up Time – March 2011 Funded by CBC 13 Phase Two of Grass Area – set out grass paths and prepare and plant wildflower/hay meadow Time – Autumn 2010 (This can only be done in Autumn) Local Farmer will prepare ground, Woodcote Trust has funded wildflower seed 14 Application for Wren Grant for Phase One, second winters work – May 2010 15 Phase One second winters work on Wild Area – thinning and coppicing of woodland area, restoring hedgerows, planting native trees and other shrubs/plants, replacing damaged fruit trees Time – November – March 20010/11 16 Planting willow maze – Autumn 2010 17 Arrangements for ongoing maintenance and inspection of site by P3 and identified project volunteers in place Time – winter 2010 and ongoing 18 Project Complete Time adjusted from Spring 2011 to Autumn 2011 ... as willing to so Project Lead and Chair of P3 to liase on plans and activities to ensure effective communication in taking the project forward Financial Accounting – the Charity Townlands will... of woodland area, restoring hedgerows, planting native trees and other shrubs/plants, replacing damaged fruit trees Time – November – March 20010/11 16 Planting willow maze – Autumn 2010 17 Arrangements...
