TABLE OF CONTENTS ACKNOWLEGEMENT As you know, education is an important key to success Not only in Vietnam but also in most other countries in the world, governments consider education as a top national policy The aim of education in universities and colleges is not only providing theories from books to students but also training them through real working environment in order to make a new and useful workforce for society For that reason, Thuong Mai University has built the studying route and internship for their students They are considered as opportunities for students to test their knowledge, improve their own skills, gain more experiences in new environment and learn new things from reality The internship opportunity which I had with An Phuoc Training and Education Company Limited from 28th December 2020 to 22th January 2021 was a great chance for me to enhance my knowledge, learn practical skills, work in real working environment and apply into practice what I have been learned at my school Firstly, I would love to express my deep thankfulness to Thuong Mai University and English Faculty for giving me an intensive learning environment so that I could equip myself with both practical experience and necessary skills in realistic working conditions Besides, I would like to express my great gratitude to my teacher in the Department of Business English, Ms Hoang Thi Anh Tho, who supported me by proper guidance, advice and led me the right way to conduct my internship report Last but not least, I would like to thank the Manager - Ms Ngo Thi Huyen and everyone in company for creating all good conditions for me and enthusiastically instructing me daily work activities to help me fulfill all my tasks during the internship Sincerely thanks! followed by departments This organizational structure is suitable with the business and production activities of its small scale, which helps department associate and operate effectively These departments are both on the task of their specialized department and concurrently with other tasks According to the model, the director can directly observe and control all activities of each department To make the model operate the most effectively, the director should have thorough knowledge and great leadership b Analysis of the tasks of each department: • Chief Executive Officer: Chief Executive Officer, the founder of the company, has the highest authority, manages all activities of the company through the director and takes ultimate responsibility for the authorized activities 8 • Director: The Director takes responsibility for supporting Chief Executive Officer, directly managing and organizing company activities, people as well as cooperative activities of the business • Engineering Technology Department: The Engineering Technology Department is responsible for the design of attractive web sites, computer software production and programming, as well as the installation of electronic and telecommunications equipment and components, computers, equipment and spare parts It also provides technical support for company operations, including supervision of the repair and maintenance of equipment and computers • Accounting Department: The Accounting Department is responsible for researching and suggesting measurements about the financial condition of the company, implementing the financial decisions of the director and the accounting tasks, as well as managing the financial condition and property of the company • Administrative Department: The Administrative Department has responsibility to recruit new employees, cooperate with other departments in training and improving the quality of the staffs, to develop regulations about employees’ salaries and incentives, to formulate the rules and regulations of the company, to recommend the Director about issues related to the Personnel Administrative Department • Telesale Department: The Telesale Department is responsible for contacting potential or existing customers to inform them about courses and services using scripts; answering questions about courses or the company; asking questions to understand customer requirements and close sales • Marketing Department: The Marketing Department has responsibility to plan and promote Nemo English School’s products and services to the markets, to document market profiles and predict the revenues, as well as to survey and find out the demands of customers 9 • Service Development and Content Department: Service Development and Content Department plays a very important role in the structure of the company This department creates courses that attract customers, especially students who buy products from the company At the same time, it also cooperates with other departments to bring the best products to customers 1.1.5 Business results in recent years (2019, 2020) Below are the statistics of An Phuoc Co Ltd’s business business performance of An Phuoc Training and Education Co Ltd has decreased from 2019 to 2020 Specifically, in 2019, the company's revenue was quite stable (reached 14,839,241,000 VND) After subtracting all the expenses and tax profit, the company's profit reached 1,713,507,690 VND However, in 2020, the company's profit declined by 916,927,827 VND From the figures, it can be seen that the profit of company decrease significantly compared to 2019 As we can see, the year 2020 is a difficult year for all businesses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic An Phuoc Training and Education Co Ltd is a company which trains major in education field, the main customers are students and they didn’t go to school due to the Covid-19 pandemic from Tet holiday to June 2020 Therefore, these made the company's revenue fall down (only 10,126,453,000 VND) However, after complicated development of the 10 10 10 Covid-19 pandemic, all activities were going as usual, the company gradually recovered and now is still on the impetus 1.2 Information about Service Development and Content Department of An Phuoc Training and Education Co.Ltd In any organization, Service Development and Content Department plays a pivotal role in the success of the business A website with good content will help businesses firmly grasp the victory in the arena of internet marketing The department serves as the soul of the company because customers only buy products and services when they are good and meet their need and it is this place that creates those products This department takes responsible for: • Receiving information from the Marketing department about customer needs, thereby planning to build courses which are suitable for each customer segment • Assigning work to selected teachers so that they can compose documents in more • detail Checking the content of documents prepared by teachers to ensure knowledge is accurate, suitable for courses and facilitates the process of posting data to the online • website Compilation of exam preparation content for students with the view of creating quality and effective courses • Developing lecture videos to help students gain knowledge in better way • Designing a variety of contents of extracurricular activities for students throughout • the learning process of students Posting content to the company's website through specialized software • Searching for different needs and perspectives on products and services to create new content to maintain the interest of students when accessing the website • Coordinating with other departments, especially Engineering Technology Department and Telesale Department to complete the product as well as and improve productivity • Being responsible for other tasks related to content sector 11 11 11 PART 2: INTRODUCTION ABOUT INTERNSHIP PROCESS IN AN PHUOC TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMPANY LIMITED 2.1 Roles and responsibilities As an intern in An Phuoc Training and Education Co Ltd, I have been taking part in lots of activities of the Service Development and Content Department such as: • Compiling contents for new courses: each age uses different books for each individual curriculum:  English for children 4-6 years old (using Super Tots book)  English for children 7-11 years old (using Super Kids book, Family and Friends book)  English for teens 12-15 years old (using Solutions book) • Translating English- Vietnamese and Vietnamese- English through videos and • writing essays per month about the topic of the month in each course Generating great ideas of interesting games in teaching method: Move and Freeze, Cross the River, Sticky Ball, Simon says, Hide and Seek,… • Making plans about extracurricular activities for students: tik tok challenge, outdoor picnic, music competition,… • Explaining and upgrading an application on mobile phones (Nemo shool app) exclusively for parents to contact with teacher and control their children’s learning situation • Coordinating with Marketing department and Telesale department in website promotion strategies on social media • Discussing with the team leader to find new learning methods, or design more effective courses to meet the needs of each student group • Designing slides for video lectures as well as get ideas about video lecture content to post on the site • Checking spelling errors, grammatical errors, translation errors, punctuation errors, especially abbreviations to make sure the words have followed the correct form • In addition to the documents compiled by English teachers, focusing on being in charge of compilation of theory, practical exercises and test questions for many levels (Beginner, Basic, Advanced) • Using the edited and compiled content material to post to the website online • Supporting Marketing department in taking photos for the company's advertising 12 12 12 and implementing advertising strategies on social networking sites 2.2 Advantages and disadvantages during the internship 2.2.1 Advantages During the internship, the company has created many favorable conditions for interns to have new and useful experiences in real working environment: • Internship is the period of time I get an apprenticeship and better understand what the future job I have to This will help me quickly realize my weaknesses and promptly fix them • The company always provides all the necessary and valuable documents for completing my internship as well as possible • When I have an issue, the instructor always answers and guides enthusiastically, simultaneously introduces me to other members of the company who can answer more specifically • Staffs in the company are friendly, sociable and very enthusiastic at work • Improving my communication skills thanks to the process of communicating with colleagues The mentor also point out my strengths and weaknesses which help me to improve and have more good relationships 2.2.2 Disadvantages During my internship, I encountered some following difficulties: • Studying in a lecture environment is completely different from practicing as a real • employee Due to the lack of reference material, I had some troubles in compiling the content I had to come up with many problems in my assigned courses • Checking the content of documents compiled by team of teachers requires meticulousness, carefulness and I had to check very small errors, so sometimes I did • not discover all the errors in the lesson Working in a professional environment that requires high flexibility, I had to make a lot of efforts to observe and learn knowledge and skills of my prior colleagues everyday • The pressure of having to go to work on time as prescribed by the company and the amount of unresponsive work deadlines kept me sometimes impatient 2.3 Lessons Nearly one month internship in Service Development and Content Department at An Phuoc Training and Education Co Ltd, I have learned a lot of meaningful 13 13 13 lessons and specific experiences for myself which may help my further career growth: • Improving my office computer skills and English skills • Promoting communication skills and teamwork skills • Developing my organization skills, multitasking skills, carefulness, and meticulousness at work • Applying knowledge and skills learned in Thuong Mai university such as • translation, English grammar, on the job Approaching to the modern, dynamic and professional environment of the company as well as the workplace culture • Practicing persistence in all situations to keep calm and deal with all of problems • reasonably Learning how to get along with other colleagues in the company and build a good relationship with partners • The attitude towards work should be hard - working and enthusiastic for the work assigned, go to work on time, keep general discipline and show an eagerness to learn, in order to make a good impression on the colleagues of the company 14 14 14 PART 3: THE REALITY OF THE USE OF ENGLISH IN AN PHUOC TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMPANY LIMITED 3.1 The reality of the use of English in the company 3.1.1 The current situation of the use of English in the company An Phuoc Training and Education Co Ltd’s main function is to provide a system of knowledge about English and solutions for teaching, learning and reviewing English with the best scientific methods and strategies Therefore, the use of English is very common and the company has a collection of staffs with good English skills, especially specialized in learning English communication skills, explaining detailed answers, designing teaching video using English speaking skills In particular, English is used most in the Service Development and Content Department • Service Development and Content Department: This is the most English department in the company The Service Development and Content Department is in charge of compiling and editing content for English courses In addition, the department also cooperates with a number of foreign teachers to help students have the opportunity to interact directly with native speakers, improve English speaking and listening skills • Engineering Technology Department: Staffs are carefully trained in English in technical and programming fields They often put commands on data before posting it on the company's website, and often have to work on English software as well as solve any problems relating to techniques, so it requires them to have basic • knowledge of English to complete their mission Administrative Department: This department uses English in recruiting foreign teachers to find out teachers who are passionate, qualified in pedagogy and many experienced years in teaching English in order to meet the demands of company • Telesale Department: In order to increase the persuasion of customers to buy courses, Telesale staffs will ask a certain grammar part of the student's curriculum, then explain the language section Therefore, English is an effective tool to attract customers • Marketing Department: This department uses English in describing courses, as well as creating advertising slogans for websites, courses 15 15 15 Recognizing the important role of English for work, company holds English training courses for staffs once a month so that all of them enhance their English level 3.1.2 Strengths in using English in the company • For the company: English is a key product of the company, so taking full advantage • of using this language will help the company expand markets, thrive sustainably For Service Development and Content Department: Using English to create useful and effective courses to attract students as well as build connection between a system of foreign teachers and company These help the department gain an important foothold in the company as well as help the company to compete with other competitors • For Engineering Technology Department, Administrative Department, Telesale Department and Marketing Department: having knowledge of English will help them to coordinate close with together and complete the work effectively, bring customers the best products 3.1.3 Weaknesses in using English in the company Besides its strengths, there are still some weaknesses such as: • In Service Development and Content Department, most staffs only have knowledge of grammar, are able to read and write English but not really good at listening and speaking skills, so sometimes it creates some barriers to communicating with foreign teachers • Working time and workload are quite heavy, so it is difficult to improve their English Furthermore, some staffs not try their best to improve their English, so this may affect to the work efficiency of the whole company • In addition to some departments that use English as mentioned above, for the remaining departments, the company has not made specific requirements on English 3.2 proficiency, so the English of staff is not really good Recommendations for solutions There are some following solutions to improve the use of English in company: • Every staff should be aware of the importance of English as it is very meaningful to both themselves and business operations of the company Everyone has to find their own method to learn English as well as improve their English skills 16 16 16 • In recruitment, the company should make specific English requirements and evaluate English proficiency regularly • The company should actively create favorable conditions to improve English skills for staffs by providing the company's course for free or offering special training courses (focus on four English skills) periodically once a month • The company should have many useful policies such as: bonus for individuals with good performance, increase salary for staffs with good qualifications and English ability at the workplace This policy will motivate and encourage staffs to work and improve their English At the same time, there are also some punishment policies for individuals who not really make effort to meet the basic demands of company • The company needs to have activities that encourage people to speak English in the company to create a practical environment in company such as: cheerleading slogans, organizing English-related entertainment programs, organizing meetings in English, 17 17 17 PART 4: PROPOSING TOPIC FOR THE GRADUATION PROJECT Name of topic: Difficulties in translating from English to Vietnamese of thirdyear students in Faculty of English at Thuong Mai University 18 18 18 CONCLUSION An Phuoc Training and Education Company Limited is still a young company In spite of small scale compared to other companies, the company has developed year by year and gradually asserted its position on the domestic market In addition, its business is increasingly expanded to bring high efficiency and customers’ satisfaction To get such achievements today, besides the efforts of all staffs, it is the strict and judicious management of the directors in making the strategic decisions This has created positive changes and built firm belief for employees to devote constantly to the development of the company An Phuoc Training and Education Company Limited has been moving in the right direction It does not only focus on profit but also the company’s reputation and the increasingly advanced life of the staffs By efforts and abundant and qualified human resources, An Phuoc Training and Education Company Limited promises to achieve the important goals and expand the scale to reach larger markets I hope that these suggestions will contribute to the development of the company in the coming time One month of internship at An Phuoc Training and Education Company Limited was really a valuable time for me to have an objective view of the activities of a company, to learn practical experience about the working style, how to behave and communicate Above all, I have an opportunity to acquire new skills for
