PreCalculus Algebra-Course Syllabus 2020-2021 Course Description: PreCalculus Algebra includes review of elementary algebra, solution of equations, functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, inequalities, systems of linear equations, equations of second degree and their graphs, binomial theorem, complex numbers, and polynomials Textbook: College Algebra, 7th edition by Blitzer Course Outline: ● ● ● ● ● ● Chapter P-Prerequisites: Fundamental Concepts of Algebra Chapter 1-Equations and Inequalities Chapter 2-Functions and Graphs Chapter 3-Polynomial and Rational Functions Chapter 4-Exponential and Logarithmic Functions Selected sections from Chapter 5-Systems of Equations and Inequalities, Chapter 6-Matrices and Determinants, and Chapter 8-Sequences, Induction, and Probability Supplies: ● ● ● Headphones (if in seat) Laptop and Charger Scientific calculator Expectations: ● ● ● ● ● ● ● This is a college paced course It will ask you to complete more work and dedicate more time than most of your previous math classes Expect to login and Zoom with class for approximately 60min EACH Mon, Tues, Thurs and Friday There will be exceptions to this on Wednesdays and if things come up Expect to have approximately 90 of work time INCLUDING Zoom Time each day of the week The assignments will take some students longer and some students a shorter amount of time This is an estimate for the average student Check email and Schoology at least once a day Frequently log-in to Home Access to check your grade and for any missing assignments As shown in the Daily Lesson Plans for every Chapter (link posted in Schoology), students will a Video Assignment and submit an Entry Ticket in MyMathLab (mymathlab.com) PRIOR to class During class, students will complete the Practice and Progress Check in MyMathLab (MML) Then the preparation for the next class would be to finish the Practice and Progress Check (if not finished) and the next day’s Video Assignment and Entry Ticket This pattern will continue until Review Day on which there is a Chapter Review to complete on MML and free response question(s) to complete and submit via Schoology On Test day the Test will be two parts as well, Part to complete on MML and Part to submit via Schoology Snow days will be remote learning days for all students in this course Teacher Information: Instructor: Robert R Gastler Office Hours: Wed 2-4 pm Email: rgastler@cpsk12.org Phone: 573-214-3300 Grading Guidelines: Category in eSchool Weight Assignments include Formative Assessment (FA) 20% Progress Checks, Practice Sets in MML Summative Assessment (SA) 60% Test (5 Unit Tests) Semester Exam (SEMEX) 20% Final Exam COMPLETE PRIOR TO CLASS: Video Assignment ➢ In MyMathLab (MML) ➢ Due by 9AM Day of Class ➢ Points: No, Must Watch Instructional Videos Entry Ticket ➢ In MyMathLab (MML) ➢ Due by 9AM Day of Class ➢ attempts allowed per problem ➢ Points: Will enter Y/N ➢ Accept Late?
