Sweet Briar College Job Description Sweet Briar College is a liberal arts college for women of consequence, located in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains approximately 12 miles north of Lynchburg and 54 miles south of Charlottesville Founded in 1901, the College boasts a modern core curriculum focused on women’s leadership in the 21st century and undergraduate programs in the arts, sciences and humanities, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching It is one of only two women’s colleges in the United States with an ABET-accredited engineering degree As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Sweet Briar College is committed to enhancing our community and encourages applications from qualified individuals with varied backgrounds, experiences and ideas who would increase the diversity of the College Job Title: Technology Student Assistant Classification: Hourly- Maximum 20 hours/week Reports To: Hooshang Foroudastan, CTO Job Summary/Objective: The Technology Student Assistant is the first point of contact for students, staff and faculty seeking assistance for technology issues on campus They are members of the SBC ITS Services Team, providing technical support over the phone and in person, and maintaining the smooth operation of the SBC’s computer lab facilities The assistants also provide support to faculty, staff and students in areas of AV and instructional technology tools such as Canvas, Zoom, Slack and Microsoft Productivity Suite Position Type/Expected Work Hours: Technology Services Supervisory Responsibilities: None Essential Responsibilities:         Perform routine office tasks Provide quality customer support to all users on campus, over the phone and/or face-to-face Enter work orders in the WHD system from phone calls or walk-in clients Complete various work orders on campus Assist faculty/staff and students with AV and Canvas needs Communicate technical information to non-technical customers, verbally and in writing Troubleshoot and provide solutions for a wide range of computing and user support issues, both for campus- and customer-owned systems Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications:  Basic technical knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems and applications September 2018 Sweet Briar College Job Description          Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite Knowledge of available campus software Verbal and written communication and troubleshooting skills Fast learner and self-starter willing to research problems independently Customer service and/or tech support experience preferred Eligible for employment with IT Must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA The ability to work independently, identifying resources and make independent decisions Strong oral communication skills Preferred Qualifications:      Ability to work in a team environment Ability and interest in learning technology related skills Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills Flexible hours for availability (including evenings and weekends) when the building is open Positive customer-oriented attitude and professional image Work Environment: Office Physical Demands: bending, sitting, and lifting computers/printers and other small items Travel: N/A Deadline for Submission: Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until filled Other Duties: This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice How to Apply: If applying for a student position, please submit a cover letter, résumé, three professional references and your course schedule to help@sbc.edu September 2018
