https://dream.utah.edu/ ❖ The Dream Center in the Office for Diversity & Inclusion in the Office of Undergraduate Studies works holistically with undocumented students and mixedstatus families from college access to graduation The Dream Center (1) engages in specialized college outreach and access strategies, (2) provides individualized advising and scholarship support for current and future University of Utah undocumented students, (3) promotes campus-wide advocacy and trainings for University of Utah students, faculty, staff and administration, and (4) increases community-wide awareness of policies affecting current and future University of Utah undocumented students • Undocumented Students – Educate Utah – Edúcate Utah – A guide to higher education (educate-utah.org) • Non-Resident Students: UTAH HOUSE BILL 144 Non- Resident Tuition Waivers | Admissions (utah.edu) ❖ The Utah State Legislature passed House Bill 144 in 2002 which allows eligible Utah high school graduates the opportunity to attend Utah universities & colleges & have the non-resident portion of their tuition waived A student can qualify for this waiver if they: o Attended a Utah high school for three or more years o Graduated or will graduate from a Utah high school or attained the equivalent of a high school diploma (GED) in Utah o Have not registered for college classes prior to the Fall 2002 academic school year o Don not hold a current visa o Have filed or will file an application to legalize their immigration status as soon as they are eligible to so • Non-Resident Students: Utah Senate Bill 253 ❖ As of May 12, 2015, Utah SB 253 makes it so any student who graduates from a Utah high school (regardless of high school graduation year) IS NOT required to provide proof of lawful US presence for scholarships or tuition waivers in Utah’s public colleges & universities Therefore, regardless if the student has or does not have DACA, as long as they have graduated from a Utah high school, they may apply to privately funded scholarships administered by a Utah public colleges or university! • Non-Resident Students: Utah House Bill 118 Non- Resident Tuition Waivers | Admissions (utah.edu) ❖ The House Bill 118 tuition waiver allows eligible Utah high school graduates the opportunity to attend Utah universities and colleges and have the non-resident portion of their tuition waived A student can qualify for this waiver if they: o Are a foreign national legally admitted to the US (holds a non-immigrant visa such as F-1, H-4, J-1, etc.) o Attended a Utah high school for three or more years o Graduated or will graduate from a Utah high school or attained the equivalent of a high school diploma (GED) in Utah Required documents for House Bill 118 tuition waiver: o Completed House Bill 118 Form o Official final high school transcripts with graduation dates or GED scores UNIVERSITY OF UTAH – For Utah Scholarship For Utah Scholarship - Financial Aid and Scholarships - The University of Utah • Requirements – o High school minimum 3.2 GPA & Pell eligible (FAFSA) o Apply to college by priority December deadline & FAFSA by February • Maintain continuing eligibility o Maintains 3.0 GPA o Continues to be Pell eligible (FAFSA) o Enroll in 12.0 credit hours ea Semester BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY BYU - Cougarpellpromise.byu.edu Cougar Pell Promise (byu.edu) • Qualifications – Be admitted to BYU as a freshman student by the first fall semester after high school graduation • Complete the online scholarship application by the published scholarship deadline • Complete FAFSA by January 20 & be Pell eligible • Maintaining Continuing Eligibility o Complete online scholarship application ea Year by continuing scholarship deadline o Complete FAFSA by January 20 o Maintain a 2.0 cumulative BYU GPA o Enroll in 12.0 credit hours each semester UTAH STATE – Utah State Promise (Available at all USU campuses) The Utah State Promise is a “last dollar” scholarship, meaning it is applied to your remaining tuition & student body fees after all other aid is applied What is considered other aid & what order is it applied? First, Federal Pell Grant (FAFSA), and then second, USU will apply other scholarships (e.g., institutional awards, department, Regents, outside/3rd party) After all aid & scholarships are applied, USU pays any remaining balance due ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: • • • • • Submit FAFSA & be Pell Grant Eligible Utah resident, US citizen, or eligible non-citizen Be admitted as first-time incoming undergraduate Intend to graduate from USU Renewal for up to years (must remain pell eligible, good standing-academics, up to full tuition & student body fees) SOUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITY – SUU – Access Utah Promise Scholarship CRITERIA: • • • • • • Have a high school diploma or equivalent Have not received an associate degree or higher postsecondary degree Be a resident of Utah Must demonstrate financial need Accept all other grants, tuition/fee waivers, & scholarships offered to the applicant Maintain and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress A RECIPIENT MAY RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS UNTIL ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OCCURS: • • • • • Two years after the initial award A recipient uses the scholarship for four semesters A recipient meets the academic qualifications for an associate degree Or earns a cumulative total of 60 credits Recipients must submit FAFSA each year o Do verifications if needed HOW TO APPLY: • Complete the FAFSA DIXIE STATE UNIVERSITY – TRAILBLAZER PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP Dixie State University :: Scholarships :: State of Utah Scholarships The Utah Promise Scholarship is the first-ever statewide needs-based scholarship program in Utah It is available to recent high school graduates & adult learners at Utah’s public colleges & universities, as well as Utah’s public technical colleges The Utah Promise Scholarship will cover up to tuition & fees for up to two years The Trailblazer Promise is automatically awarded at DSU through a completed FAFSA Application to those who qualify This process happens after the 3rd week of each semester If you are awarded the Trailblazer Promise, you will receive an email from the Financial Aid Office to your Dmail account There is no separate application required except a completed FAFSA Application Snow College – THE UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY – UVU – Greenlight Scholarship Greenlight Scholarship | Financial Aid | Utah Valley University (uvu.edu) This scholarship fills the gap to cover tuition for students who receive the Pell Grant (FAFSA) but may still owe additional tuition For students who qualify, the cost of a two-year degree will be covered by federal aid and UVU Your first two years are covered! • Eligibility o Complete the FAFSA and receive a Pell Grant each year o Be a Utah Resident o Enrolled on a full-time basis (at least 12 credits) o Priority given to first-year and second-year students admitted with a complete financial aid file by May 15 o Must have attempted fewer than 60 credit hours • How to apply o Be admitted to UVU o Complete the FAFSA & be awarded a Pell Grant by May 15 (to receive first priority) o No scholarship application is required UVU will award the scholarships automatically • Example: o UVU tuition per semester $2,561 o Student receives Pell Grant for $1,000 o Difference: $1,561 o UVU provides a scholarship for $1,561 o Tuition Balance: $0 SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SLCC Promise: helps eligible students pay for their education by covering the cost of tuition & fees when federal grants fall short SLCC Promise | SLCC • Who’s Eligible o Utah Resident o Receive a Federal Pell Grant o Take or more credits in Fall & Spring semester or take or more during summer o All SLCC students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor o Maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA & complete 70% of attempted courses WEBER STATE UNIVERSITY DREAM WEBER – Information: Dream Weber Application: Central Authentication Service (weber.edu) The Dream Weber program provides free tuition & general student fees to students enrolled in 12 semester credits, who qualify for a Pell Grant & whose annual household income is $40,000 or less The amount awarded varies depending on each applicants FAFSA, as the Dream Weber program supplements any other aid that is awarded How to students from an underrepresented group Full scholarships were awarded to 30 students during the 2021-2022 school year The remaining 31 scholarships, representing the rest of the team’s wins last year, as well as scholarships that result from additional wins this season will be awarded at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year CRITERIA: • • • • • • Graduate of a Utah High School Person of Color (Asian or Pacific Islander; Black or African American; Hispanic or Latinx; or Native American or Alaskan Native) Preference given to those with demonstrated financial need (regardless of FAFSA
