WHAT’S OUR IMPACT? at OUR MISSION To increase the educational and social opportunities of motivated, financially under-resourced middle and high school students through a quality year-round program To motivate and train college students for careers in education KENT DENVER is a six-year after school and summer program that supports middle and high school students through challenges and transitions while simultaneously training aspiring educators All programs and services are provided at no cost to all of our students and Teaching Fellows BREAKTHROUGH’S IMPACT IN 2019-2020: 100% of Breakthrough high school seniors graduated in 2020 100% of Breakthrough 2020 graduates are pursuing a college degree 12% of students deferred enrollment, due to COVID-19, to Spring or Fall 2021 184 middle school students 200 high school students 60 Denver Public Schools (DPS) and Englewood Public Schools (EPS) 100% For nine consecutive years of Breakthrough seniors have graduated high school! 35 days of additional in person and virtual academic instruction 26th year of closing the opportunity gap in Denver Public Schools and Englewood Public Schools “What made me apply for Breakthrough was the ability to get ahead and be more prepared for the following year One thing I really love now about being a part of Breakthrough is the teachers and full community All of the teachers are very loving and caring and as a student they make me feel valued and supported ” - Anthony Martinez-Baros, 8th grade, Strive Prep Westwood DENVER & ENGLEWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS Breakthrough successfully served middle and high school students from over 60 Denver and Englewood Public Schools in 2019-2020 I-70 I-2 DENVER Colfax Ave I-25 Sant a Fe Dr 6th Ave Monaco Pkwy Colorado Blvd Federal Blvd MIDDLE SCHOOLS SERVED: Hampden Ave ENGLEWOOD Breakthrough Kent Denver Bear Valley Bishop Elementary Charles Hay World School Cherrelyn Elementary Clayton Elementary Columbia Middle School Compass Academy Denver Center for International Studies Denver Green School Denver School of the Arts DSST Public Schools Englewood Leadership Academy Florida Pitt Waller Fort Logan Northgate Girls Athletic Leadership Schools Grant Beacon Middle School Hamilton Middle School Henry World School High Point Academy Hill Campus of Arts & Science International School at Thornton Middle KIPP Northeast Denver KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy Laredo Middle School Manual McAuliffe McAuliffe International Merrill Middle School Dr MLK Jr Early College Odyssey School of Denver Place Bridge Academy Skinner Middle School STRIVE Preparatory Schools West Leadership Academy Wyatt Academy Charter SUMMER PROGRAM Rigorous Academics, Leadership Activities & Community Building for 7th-9th Grade Students *Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Breakthrough transitioned the 2020 Summer Program to virtual classes Monday - Thursday and Friday neighborhood meetups (in an effort to allow our community to engage in person within the capacity of social distancing guidelines) Intensive six-week in-person and virtual summer session (M-TH, 9am-2pm)* • 28 days of rigorous instruction in math, reading, writing, and science • Socially Distanced Friday Neighborhood Meetups (9:30am-10:30am & 12:30pm-1:30pm) SUMMER IMPACT: 64 programming hours to 7th-9th grade Breakthrough students 34 programming hours to 10th grade Breakthrough students 58 hours of synchronous academic instruction 53 various asynchronous electives 17 total summer volunteers helped deliver student supplies summer supply deliveries to over 200 students 73 Chromebooks loaned to students PARTICIPATION BY GRADE: 7th grade (Class of 2026): 97% 8th grade (Class of 2025): 84% 9th grade (Class of 2024): 86% 10th grade (Class of 2023): 86% PARENT SATISFACTION SURVEY RESULTS: 89% of Breakthrough parents satisfied with the virtual Summer Programming 82% of Breakthrough parents satisfied with the in-person Summer Programming Who did we serve this summer? 94% Students of Color 90% Qualified for Free/Reduced Lunch 49% 79% Speak a Language Other than English in Their Home First Generation College Bound 37% Come From a Single Parent Household SATURDAY SCHOOL PROGRAM Non-Traditional School-Year Support For Middle School and High School Students “Breakthrough is a community of support and love where I know I will always be accepted for who I am I know that I will always be able to count on this community to help me through challenges The students are all so inspiring and the dedication of the full time team is so admirable I applied to be a volunteer once I got to high school and I loved it!
