The Lycộe Franỗais de New York is a dynamic N-12 independent school situated on a beautiful, purposebuilt campus on Manhattan’s Upper East Side The Lycée is committed to bilingual education of the highest standard and this year celebrated its 85th anniversary year The school seeks an experienced admissions and enrollment professional to become Director of Enrollment, assuming the role at some point after January 2021 and by July 2021 This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with significant cross-cultural experience to help redefine and steer enrollment management at the Lycée With 1,265 students and almost 300 faculty and staff representing over 50 nationalities, the Lycée is one of the few independent schools in New York City that is truly international, with an educational mission unique among New York City schools Its 2015-2020 Strategic Plan “Our Vision: Aujourd’hui et Demain” constitutes the school’s current road map, and further deepened efforts in bilingual teaching and learning The French Baccalaureate is the backbone of the school’s secondary programming, with a traditional French Bac, international French Bac, and a French-American Bac offered as choices to students in reinvented versions introduced in 2019 Student well-being and strong student-teacher relationships are at the center of the educational experience across all grade levels In addition, the leadership of the school has engaged the entire community on the critical issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion The Director of Enrollment will play a vital role in the Lycée community, serving as a model of the Lycée’s culture and values to prospective and current families The Director will lead the school’s effort in attracting, enrolling, and retaining a diverse and talented student population who will benefit from the school’s unique culture and programmatic offerings and who will contribute to the school community As one of the school’s most visible ambassadors, the Director of Enrollment will represent the Lycée to all constituents, which includes students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and administration Additionally, the Director will build will design and implement strategies to ensure that the school achieves its annual enrollment goals As part of the school’s recruitment, enrollment, and re-enrollment process, the Director of Enrollment will oversee all admission processes, the admission budget, admission events and constituent volunteer efforts, and all recruitment, enrollment, and matriculation efforts and records up to welcoming new families to school in the fall Working closely with the school’s Communications and Development team, the Director of Enrollment will attend to the school’s public presence, including print, social media, and digital platforms, especially the school’s website The Director of Enrollment reports to the Head of School and serves as a strategic thought partner to her, also serving as a member of the school’s Executive Leadership Team HISTORY Founded in 1935 at the initiative of the French Consul General and subsequently chartered by the New York Board of Regents as an independent not-for-profit school, the Lycộe Franỗais de New York originally offered only high school education primarily to children of French expatriates on the model of French secondary schools (ergo, the designation as a “lycée”) After WWII and through the 1960’s and 1970’s, the school expanded to include a middle school and a primary school located with the original campus, comprised of six townhouses spread across more than 20 blocks on Manhattan’s Upper East Side (traditional homes to many of the city’s French-speaking families) During this period, the school’s enrollment increased to over 900, representing over 40 nationalities In the late 1990’s, a dynamic and forward-thinking group of parents led an initiative to reposition the school and reform the governance and leadership that had been in effect for over 30 years This CARNEYSANDOE.COM effort led to the hiring of a new Head of School, the design of a new school, the divestment of the six townhouses, the raising of $100 million of bank debt, and a revamping of governance In September 2003, the Lycée moved to its current campus, a modern, spacious, light-filled facility on East 75th Street From 2003 through 2013, facing increased demand and in spite of having discontinued its Pre-Nursery program in 2009, the school’s enrollment grew to reach more than 1,300 students With its campus at capacity and the will to adapt teaching and learning to fulfill its mission and educational goals, the Lycée opened its contiguous York Wing addition in September 2016, adding another 19,000 square feet of learning space Since its founding, the Lycée has enrolled more than 35,000 students Today, it has many students of alumni parents and grandparents A significant proportion of each graduating class are “lifers,” who School in August 2019 Mme Estey previously served as the Lycée’s Deputy Head of School and Chief Financial and Operating Officer and is a former member of the Lycée’s Board of Trustees Her association with the Lycée dates back 25 years when she became a parent and class delegate She is also a former Board trustee member of Trinity School in Manhattan Prior to joining the Lycée, Mme Estey had a has been a wonderful ambassador to the school, engaging prospective families with warmth and energy, and supporting the enrollment of their children well beyond matriculation With her retirement, the school has elevated the title to reflect the need for a broader role that encompasses marketing, systems, data analysis, enrollment strategy, communications, and organizational management Selected specific responsibilities include the following: • Lead and manage the process of attracting, enrolling, and retaining mission appropriate students • Oversee the administration of the admission process; all admission processes and records; admission events, travel, and constituent volunteer efforts; and all recruitment, enrollment, re-enrollment, and matriculation efforts, up to welcoming new families to school in the fall • Manage admissions in accordance with the school’s focus on promoting diversity in all its forms, while also supporting key academic, co-curricular, and strategic
