MAYOR’S DIGITAL TALENT PROGRAMME THE PROGRAMME A £7million investment to plug the growing digital skills shor tage in London’s growth areas with diverse, home -grown talent £5million Growth Deal funding through the London Economic Action Par tnership (LEAP) + £2million European Social Fund match-funding Suppor ting young women and young Londoners from diverse ethnic and disadvantaged backgrounds aged 16-24 years old Working with industry, skills providers & schools, women in tech organisations, youth & community groups and extra -curricular providers AREAS OF GROWTH Software Developer/ Engineer Data Analytics (Big Data) Cyber Security Mobile & e-commerce Internet of Things Digital Marketing Video Games / VFX Consumer/ User Experience FinTech Film & TV Production Product Management Web Developers DESIRED OUTCOMES Fund new industry-approved training courses leading to employment in digital, creative and technology occupations needed by every sector of London’s economy Inspire young Londoners, par ticularly women and BAME to access training oppor tunities & pursue a digital, technology or creative job role Innovate London’s advanced digital skills offer for 16 -24 year olds OUTPUTS 1.5K 2K 400 1,500 young Londoners accessing new training oppor tunities 2,000 young Londoners receiving careers suppor t 400 school and Fur ther Education (FE) teachers suppor ted PRIORITIES Focus on advanced digital skills across digital, technology and creative occupations Inspire more young women into tech – currently only 17% of workforce Suppor t Apprenticeship Levy usage for corporates & SMEs Facilitate collaboration between training providers and industry, including both corporations and SMEs, to co-design curricula Provide technical & soft skills, entrepreneurial training & work experience for young Londoners at levels and above (or equivalent) Create clear routes to employment through vocational training STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMME Funding available for FE colleges, private skills providers and universities to deliver digital skills training co-designed with industry Digital Labs review proposed curricula and provide suppor t to co design new training courses and Apprenticeships with industry £2million Kit Fund to suppor t technology requirements Teacher CPD package to upskill teaching workforce & awareness of digital, technology and creative occupations Marketing campaign to inspire and engage young Londoners - Signposting to training offers, inspirational events & coordination across London - Showcasing role models already working in these occupations STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMME Research and data LinkedIn Skills Graph FE skills provision data Analysis of Apprenticeship standards Procurement and delivery Digital Labs – Proofing and enriching curricula Funding for Digital Skills training Funding for Higher level skills: building talent and opportunity Train young Londoners in digital, technology and creative skills Support for teachers and young Londoners Teacher CPD package Capital kit fund Online platform of initiatives D I G I TA L L A B S Analyse Apprenticeship standards at levels and above covering digital, technology and creative digital occupations Support delivery partners funded as part of Digital Skills Training to review current curricula, create new course content and support Apprenticeship standards/implementation Facilitate direct collaboration between skills delivery partners and industry, including both corporations and SMEs Ensure curricula in technology, digital and creative digital subjects at levels and above (or equivalent) focuses on the skills employers are looking for in new employees D I G I TA L S K I L L S T R A I N I N G Fund delivery partners to setup and deliver new industry-approved vocational training pathways in growth areas and occupations Incorporating the technical and softer skills employers are looking for Support young women and young Londoners from diverse ethnic and disadvantaged backgrounds to access and complete training Enable young Londoners aged 16-24 years old enter technology, digital, creative job roles HIGHER LEVEL SKILLS Establish stronger relationships between SMEs and higher education institutions (HEIs) that will shape and inform undergraduate and postgraduate digital skills provision Tailor digital skills provision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels around the skills needs of businesses High quality work placements in relevant micros and SMEs for undergraduates and postgraduates to develop digital skills and work experience T E A C H E R C P D PA C K A G E Raise teachers’ awareness of digital, technology and creative occupations through increased industry exposure and support Teachers improve their career guidance offer, learn best practice from each other and are better informed about the opportunities and requirements of jobs with digital skills Teachers are upskilled and have raised levels of confidence
