Program Abstract Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) Jean Davis, PhD, Wayne State University – College of Nursing 5557 Cass Avenue, #232 Cohn Building Detroit, Michigan 48202 (313) 577-4138 (office/voice); (313) 577-0414 (fax) Jean.davis@wayne.edu Wayne State University (WSU) College of Nursing (CON) intends to recruit, retain and graduate doctoral students qualified to meet the national need for nurse faculty The main objectives for the loan program are: To increase the number of doctoral nursing graduates entering teaching positions in nursing universities and colleges Funding Preference: Doctoral Students (Full-time) Additional objectives are: Recruit doctoral applicants who, if possible, are from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in the discipline of nursing and who met the criteria for admission to the graduate school of Wayne State University and the College of Nursing Offer support through the FNLP to students to improve completion and retention rates Offer support through the FNLP to assist student completing the doctorate in the sevenyear (average) of the university Increase the number of doctoral graduates and where possible increase the diversity of nurse faculty by increasing representation from underrepresented minorities Funding is requested for the Following Programs only: Doctoral Degree in Nursing (full-time) Current doctoral NFLP participants = (full-time) =35 Projected NEW doctoral NFLP = (full-time) = 36 NFLP Graduates = (7/1/10 to 6/30/11)
