Produce Safety Technician Position Announcement The Marquette County Conservation District (MCCD) is seeking interested applicants to serve as a Produce Safety Technician The position is full time, 40 hours per week The usual work hours will be scheduled between the hours of 8:00 AM-4:30 PM M-F Some nights and weekends will be required based on when outreach events, meetings, and training events are scheduled The Technician will be housed at the MCCD office at 780 Commerce Drive, Marquette, Michigan Travel will be required throughout a multi-county service area that includes eight counties in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan This position is grant funded through the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development with renewal on October 1st The starting wage ($18 - $21/hour) will commensurate with candidate’s experience and education The Produce Safety Technician is responsible for delivering the Michigan Safe Food Risk Assessment educational tool through on-farm technical assistance, using farm specific risk assessments, education, and food safety plan development to implement practices and coordinate local, state and federal agency resources to help reduce identified food safety risks, and make progress toward compliance with state and federal regulations in regards to food safety The Produce Safety Technician’s work may include food safety practice planning and implementation activities such as the completion of risk assessments with the landowner, developing Improvement Action Plans, and providing technical assistance to facilitate practice changes Applicants must have a four-year agriculture, food safety, environmental or related studies degree from an accredited college or university Applicants should be well organized, motivated, and able to communicate with a wide variety of individuals, comfortable with public speaking and have the ability to write letters and press releases Agricultural and/or food safety experience is desired A valid Michigan driver’s license and use of a reliable, personal vehicle is required (mileage reimbursement included) to attend training events and field visits Interested applicants should submit a resume, cover letter and reference list indicating relevant experience no later than Friday, March 30, 2018 by 5:00pm to rachael.mqtcondist@gmail.com Title of email: Produce Safety Technician Top candidates will be interviewed during the week of April 16th The anticipated start date is April 30, 2018 Marquette County Conservation District is an Equal Opportunity Employer Rachael Guth, District Manager Marquette County Conservation District 780 Commerce Drive, Ste C Marquette, MI 49855 (906)226-8871 x 129 www.marquettecd.com The mission of the Marquette County Conservation District is “to provide for the conservation and restoration of resources in Marquette County through forestry and wildlife practices, watershed management and soil erosion control programs and education”
