SOUTHAMPTON EDUCATION SCHOOL Primary Placement Teaching Coordinator 0.4fte (fixed term 1.9.11 to 30.6.12) Further Particulars Background to the Appointment Southampton Education School is a flourishing centre of international research and teaching excellence The School has a strong programme of initial teacher education including primary, secondary and post-compulsory PGCE and BA (QTS), an undergraduate programme in Education Studies and a full portfolio of Masters and Doctoral degrees and professional development opportunities The primary PGCE programme at the University of Southampton works with its many partner schools to offer postgraduate trainee teachers an excellent start to their teaching careers Our one year programme provides thorough preparation for teaching in relation to the QTS standards, while seeking to develop teachers whose independent and creative approaches will bring about high quality learning and inspire young learners The Primary Placement Teaching Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day administration of school placements for up to 250 primary trainee teachers each year The post holder must have a good understanding of the primary school context This role requires the maintenance of an up-to-date database of available school placements and trainee needs; the allocation of trainees and University link tutors to placements; close liaison with the Partnership Development manager and primary programme leaders; an ability to approach schools proactively to identify new placements;
