Snapfinger Creek Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility

The County has two advanced wastewater treatment facilities

(AWTF) – Snapfinger and Pole Bridge Creek.

The Snapfinger AWTF is being expanded under this project.

DeKalb County is enhancing its wastewater treatment facilities to better serve residents and businesses while ensuring compliance with state and federal water quality standards With a new wasteload allocation from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the county is committed to improving wastewater treatment to enhance the water quality of the South River The newly designed Snapfinger AWTF will meet these essential requirements.

The Snapfinger plant, situated on Flakes Mill Road near the South River, serves the waste management needs of DeKalb County, covering areas from Soapstone to Stone Mountain Since its inception in 1963, the facility has undergone four significant expansions and upgrades, increasing its treatment capacity from two million gallons per day (MGD) to 36 MGD over two decades Positioned in a densely populated older residential neighborhood of south DeKalb County, the Snapfinger plant plays a crucial role in local waste treatment.

The project is divided into three construction phases, starting with Phase I, which involves site clearance in preparation for the subsequent phases Phases II and III will focus on constructing concrete basins, an administration building, and installing essential equipment.
