UNIT 6: A VISIT TO A SCHOOL Lesson 1: Getting started I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Knowledge: - An overview about the topic A visit to a school - Vocabulary to talk about school facilities Competences: - Develop communication skills and cultural awareness - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork - Actively join in class activities Qualities: - have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities - Develop self-study skills II TEACHING AIDS Teacher: Text books, pictures, planning,… - Grade textbook, Unit 6, Getting started - Computer connected to the internet - Projector/ TV/ pictures and cards - sachmem.vn Students: Text books, notebooks, posters,… III PROCEDURES: 1.Warm-up (5’) * Aim: - activate students’ knowledge on the topic of the unit - lead in the topic * Content: Game: Chatting * Products: Ss write words exactly on the board Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content - Teacher asks students some questions related to the topic: - Students raise hands to answer the questions - Teacher and students discuss the questions - Teacher gets feedback -Teacher draws students’ attention to the picture in the textbook and asks them some questions about it: - Students raise hands to answer the * Chatting: - What did you see when you first came to our school? - How did you feel? - Have you ever had a visit to Chu Van An Secondary School/a famous school in your area? - What is the girl doing? - What are they talking about? questions - Teacher and students discuss the questions -> Today we are going to learn some more combinations about school Presentation (5’) * Aim: - provide students with vocabulary - help students well-prepared for the listening and reading tasks * Content: Vocabulary * Products: Read and understand the meaning of words Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content Pre teach vocabulary - Teacher use different techniques to teach vocab (pictures, situation, realia) - Follow the seven steps of teaching vacab - Repeat in chorus and individually * Vocabulary - lower secondary school: trường trung học sở - member (n): thành viên - remind (v): nhắc nhở/ gợi nhớ - share (v): chia sẻ - Coppy all the words * Checking vocab: < Matching> Teacher checks students’ pronunciation and give feedback Teacher reveals that these words will appear in the reading text and asks students to open their textbook to discover further Practice (30’) * Aims: - have students get to know the topic - help students understand the main idea of the conversation - help students identify school facilities - help Ss use the words in to complete the sentences * Content: - Listen and read - Read the conversation again and answer the questions by circling A, B, or C - Name these places, using the words and phrases from the box * Products: Students read vocabularies exactly aloud Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content Task 1: (5’) T-Ss Task 1: Listen and read -Teacher can play the recording more than once - Students listen and read - Teacher can invite some pairs of students to read aloud - Teacher checks students’ pronunciation and give feedback Task 2:(5’) T - Ss, Ss - Ss Task 2: Read the conversation again and answer the questions by circling A, B, or C -Teacher tells students to read the *Answer key: conversation again and work independently to find the answers B - Students the task individually C - Other Ss correct if the previous B answers are incorrect C - Teacher calls some students to give the answers and gives feedback Task 3:(5’) T-Ss, Ss-Ss Task 3: Name these places, using the words - Teacher divides the class into and phrases from the box teams Teacher explains instructions of the Game: Who is faster?
