COVERS PRINTER COVERS CHAPTER COVERS PRINTER COVERS There are two printer cover designs as follows: Sliding Glass Cover Printer • Sliding Glass Cover Printer (two variants - type SGC and type iX) • Metal Cover Printer In order to protect personnel and prevent damage, eight covers are fitted to the printer The upper part of the printer is protected by the sliding glass printhead cover, one rear PRINTER COVERS Cover Removal Before removing covers ensure that the supplies (air and electrical) have been isolated from the printer Ring Head QuarterTurn Fasteners To remove a panel secured with ring head quarter-turn fasteners, turn the fastener anti-clockwise by a quarter-turn and pull out Figure 3-2 Ring Head Quarter-Turn Fastener Button Head Quarter-Turn Fasteners To remove a panel secured with button head quarter-turn fasteners, using a 4mm Allen key, turn the fastener anti-clockwise by a quarter-turn and pull out Figure 3-3 Button Head Quarter-Turn Fastener 3.2 Technical Reference Manual Chapter Issue Nov 11 COVERS PRINTER COVERS Front Panel The front panel is secured by a ring head quarter-turn fastener and a button head quarter-turn fastener To remove the front panel of the printer, open the front printhead cover and locate the two quarter-turn fasteners on the inside of the panel Front Panel Ring Head Quarter-Turn Fastener Front Panel Button Head Quarter-Turn Fastener After releasing the fasteners, tilt the top of the panel away from the printer and lift clear of the guide pins that locate the panel to the printer frame Rear Panel Removal of the rear panel requires a 4mm Allen key to release the two button head quarter-turn fasteners located externally at the top corners of the panel After releasing the fasteners, push downwards on the panel to clear the rear printhead cover, tilt the top of the panel away from the printer and lift clear of the guide pins that locate the panel to the printer frame Safety Covers Safety covers are fitted to the side panels to protect personnel from inadvertent access to the board entry/exit ports NOTE The lower section of the safety panel can be adjusted to accomodate the thickness of the product To remove the safety cover, remove the four securing screws Safety Cover Securing Screws (in positions) Chapter Issue Nov 11 Technical Reference Manual 3.3 COVERS PRINTER COVERS Rear Printhead Fixed Cover To remove the rear printhead fixed cover, carry out the following: Remove the rear panel Release the two quarter-turn fasteners that secure the rear printhead cover to the cover frame Rear Printhead Quarter-Turn Fastener Rear Printhead Quarter-Turn Fastener 3.4 Technical Reference Manual Chapter Issue Nov 11 COVERS PRINTER COVERS The rear printhead cover is interlocked with the upper printhead cover using locating tabs The rear printhead cover must be lifted to allow the locating tabs to part NOTE The knock out panel is removed when the printer is connected to a Temperature Control Module (TCM) If a TCM is not fitted the knock out panel must be intact, or this would contravene the safety requirements the printer is tested to Where the knock out panel has been removed and a TCM is not fitted, DEK recommends fitting a new rear panel Once the locating tabs have cleared, pull the cover horizontally away from the printer Chapter Issue Nov 11 Technical Reference Manual 3.5 COVERS PRINTER COVERS Upper Side Panels To remove the upper side panels, carry out the following: Remove the rear printhead fixed cover (as detailed previously) Open the front printhead cover Remove the corresponding safety cover (as detailed previously) NOTE Before the upper side panel can be removed, the control switches (system switch, jog switch etc.) must be disconnected in the following manner Locate the two release slots in the contact assembly part of the switch Release Slot Release Slot Switch Body Contact Assembly View on Rear of Switch Insert the switch release tool (Part No 188647) into the slots and push until the release tool clicks into place Switch Body Contact Assembly Switch Release Tool View on Rear of Switch Leaving the switch release tool in position, pull the contact assembly from the switch body 3.6 Technical Reference Manual Chapter Issue Nov 11 COVERS PRINTER COVERS Remove the switch release tool from the contact assembly NOTE To refit the contact assembly to the switch body, using the locating keyway, push the two units together until they click into place Release the three quarter-turn fasteners that secure the upper side panel and remove the panel Upper Side Panel Quarter-Turn Fasteners Repeat Steps to for the other side panel, if required Front Corner Panels To remove the front corner panels, carry out the following: Remove the front panel Remove the corresponding upper side panel (as detailed previously) Release the quarter-turn fastener that secures the corner panel Front Corner Panel QuarterTurn Fastener Front Corner Panel QuarterTurn Fastener Lift the corner panel upwards to disconnect the panel from the side panel and the guide pins that locate the panel to the printer frame Repeat Steps to for the other corner panel, panel (as detailed previously) Release the quarter-turn fastener that secures the corner panel Rear Corner Panel QuarterTurn Fastener Rear Corner Panel QuarterTurn Fastener Lift the corner panel upwards to disconnect the panel from the side panel and the guide pins that locate the panel to the printer frame Repeat Steps to for the other corner panel, if required Side Panels To remove the side panels, carry out the following: Remove both corresponding corner panels (as detailed previously) Using a cross head screwdriver, release the two fasteners that secure the side panel to the cover frame Cover Frame Side Panel Securing Fasteners Main Frame View on Right Hand Side of Printer Lift the side panel upwards to clear the two guide pins that locate the panel to the printer frame 3.8 Technical Reference Manual Chapter Issue Nov 11 COVERS PRINTER COVERS Sliding Glass Cover Printer Type iX In order to protect personnel and prevent damage, ten covers are fitted to the printer The sliding glass cover, the rear printhead cover and two upper side panels which house the control switches protect the upper part of the printer The four corner panels, front and rear panels, safety Technical Reference Manual 3.9 COVERS PRINTER COVERS Cover Removal Before removing covers ensure that the supplies (air and electrical) have been isolated from the printer Quarter-Turn Ring Fasteners To remove a panel secured with quarter-turn ring fasteners, turn the fastener ring anti-clockwise (-) by a quarter-turn and pull out To refit a panel, locate the fastener shaft into the fastener, push heavy and requires a minimum of two people to lift it away from its mountings If the cover needs to be removed; contact DEK Customer Support Group for further information and the special tools required Rear Printhead Cover To remove the rear printhead cover: Lift the rear printhead cover Locate the cover open mechanism Remove the bracket securing screws from both sides of the lid Bracket Securing Screws View on Right Hand Side of the Cover Assembly (Cover in the Open Position) Lift the cover away from the printer Refitting the Covers 3.20 NOTE Before fastening latches ensure that all panel secured with button head quarter-turn fasteners, using a 4mm Allen key (maintenance key), turn the fastener anticlockwise by a quarterturn and pull out Figure 3-11 Button Head Quarter-Turn Fastener Front Panel To remove the front panel, carry out the following: Open the front printhead cover Remove the keyboard from its stowage Disconnect the keyboard from the port USB hub Using a Remove the rear panel (as detailed previously) Remove the two M5 cap head screws M5 Cap Head Screws View on Rear of Printer Lift the cover clear of the printer Rear Corner Panels To remove the rear corner panels, carry out the following: Remove the corresponding safety cover (as detailed previously) Remove the rear panel (as detailed previously) Remove the rear fixed printhead cover (as detailed following: Open the front printhead cover Remove the front panel (as detailed previously) Remove the corresponding safety cover (as detailed previously) NOTE Before a front corner panel can be removed, the control switches (jog switch and system switch or jog switch and E Stop) must be disconnected To disconnect the system switch and jog buttons carry out the following: a Locate the two release slots in the contact assembly part of the switch Release Slot Release Slot Switch Body Contact Assembly View on Rear of Switch b Insert the switch release tool (Part No 188647) into the slots body, using the locating keyway, push the two units together until they click into place To disconnect the E Stop carry out the following: a Remove the contact assembly part of the E Stop by turning previously) Open the front printhead cover Remove the front panel (as detailed previously) Remove the rear panel (as detailed previously) Remove the rear fixed printhead cover (as detailed previously) (HTC) option is used, the transport rails extend out beyond the normal printer footprint Special safety covers have been provided in place of the standard safety covers (see also the SGC Type iX version.)
