PROFLOW TX OVERVIEW CHAPTER 12 PROFLOW TX OVERVIEW The ProFlow® Tx system attaches to the print carriage and is used to print various homogenous materials The detachable transfer head is available in 300mm or 400mm configurations The system requires fl oz cartridges of print medium, two for the 300mm head and three for the 400mm head As the print carriage drives the system across the stencil, the constant system pressure and the enclosed design of the transfer head ensures minimum wastage and maximum environmental protection of the print medium Figure 12-1 ProFlow Tx System Item Chapter Issue positions) Transfer Head Mount Bracket (2 positions) Vertical Transfer Head Pin Mount Z-axis Motor The ProFlow Tx mount assembly attaches to the machine’s print carriage It features two adjustable transfer head mount brackets and a vertical transfer head pin mount for attaching the transfer head A Z-axis stepper motor drives the ProFlow system up and down, delivering the transfer head to the print contact height and applying system pressure 13.2 Technical Reference Manual Chapter Issue Jan 07 PROFLOW TX OVERVIEW Transfer Head Unit 2 3 View On Front Left Corner 10 View On Rear Underneath Transfer Head The retaining grids are optional extras and are available in 10% open and 50% open The grids help to prevent low viscosity print medium falling out of the chamber when the ProFlow transfer head is lifted off the screen This allows extra time for the ProFlow cover to be fitted 13.4 Technical Reference Manual Chapter Issue Jan 07 PROFLOW TX OVERVIEW System Pressure The System Pressure is a programmable parameter which controls the contact pressure of the transfer head against the stencil As the transfer head moves across the surface of the stencil, it must have enough downward pressure to: • Ensure that the side skis and wipers provide the enclosed environment which prevents any print medium leakage • Allow the trailing wiper to remove the excess print medium from the surface of the stencil during printing The system pressure is maintained by a Z-axis stepper motor which lowers and raises the ProFlow Tx system Based on a preset parameter, the motor turns a leadscrew that precisely positions the transfer head’s wipers and skis against the stencil NOTE It is important for the transfer head to be aligned vertically to ensure that the contact pressure on both wipers are equal Z-Axis System Pressure Down Through Centre of Transfer Head Unit Z Axis Motor Movement (Y Axis) Z Axis Screw Transfer Head Unit Print Medium Board Stencil Wiper (2 Positions) View on Left Side Chapter Issue Jan 07 Technical Reference Manual 13.5 PROFLOW TX OVERVIEW Print Medium Pressure Two pneumatically driven crosshead piston pressure solenoids are located on top of the transfer head During printing, these solenoids exert an even downwards force on the crosshead piston Print Medium Pressure Causes Flare on Crosshead Piston Seal Crosshead Piston Crosshead Piston Seal View on Arrow A Crosshead Piston Pressure Solenoid (in positions) Print Medium Injector Ports A View on Underneath of Transfer Head with Print Medium Chamber Removed As it presses down on the print medium, the crosshead piston seal flares out creating a pressurised environment and prevents any print medium from leaking past the seal Print medium is pumped through the crosshead piston using sealed injector ports 13.6 Technical Reference Manual Chapter Issue Jan 07 PROFLOW TX OVERVIEW Print Medium Charging/ Recharging At the end of a print stroke, if the print medium demand sensor detects that the print medium level is low, the ProFlow Tx system charges (or recharges) the print medium chamber in the transfer head Crosshead Piston Pressure Solenoid Print Medium Demand Sensor View on Front Right Hand Corner During the procedure, the print rails remain raised to support the screen, and system pressure is applied to prevent any leakage The print medium pressure is released, which raises the crosshead piston and creates a void in the chamber Pneumatic pressure is applied to the print medium cartridges to drive print medium to the head for a set period of time The system is now ready to resume the print cycle NOTE Charging and recharging the transfer head is an automatic process and requires no intervention from the machine operator Chapter Issue Jan 07 Technical Reference Manual 13.7 PROFLOW TX OVERVIEW Cartridge Low Level Sensors Each print medium cartridge is loaded with a magnet at the top of the print medium As the print medium decreases, the magnet follows the medium down the cartridge tube and eventually activating a reed switch mounted on a beam behind the cartridge Mounting Beam Cartridge Low Level Sensors (300mm Transfer Head) Cartridge Low Level Sensors (400mm Transfer Head) View On Front of the ProFlow Mount There are five reed switches attached to the ProFlow mount, two align with the two cartridges on a 300mm transfer head and the other three align with the three cartridges on a 400mm transfer head NOTE The reed switches are connected in parallel to a single digital input When a reed switch is activated, the warning message displayed on the monitor does not indicate which cartridge is low, this must be done visually 13.8 Technical Reference Manual Chapter Issue Jan 07 PROFLOW TX OVERVIEW Transfer Head Covers The ProFlow Tx system ships with two cover options for the transfer head: • Base Cover - Protects the wiper blades, skis and print medium during prolonged storage (more than one hour) • Protective Cover - Provides protection to the wiper blades, skis and the operator during short-term operations (removing and fitting) Base Cover View on Transfer Head with Base Cover Protective Cover Locking Clips View on Transfer Head with Protective Cover Chapter Issue Jan 07 Technical Reference Manual 13.9 PROFLOW TX OVERVIEW ProFlow Stencil Support The ProFlow stencil support option provides extra support for the stencil when printing boards which are narrower than the transfer head This extra support prevents print medium smearing, and also maintains the pressure within the transfer head Transfer Head Stencil necessary to calibrate the print contact height If the print contact height is set too high, the transfer head may not contact the stencil If the print contact height is set too low, the transfer head may contact the stencil with too much force, resulting in damage to the board clamps, stencil, or transfer head wiper blades To configure the print contact height position, carry out the following: Select Open Cover Commands If available, select Carriage to Front Select Back Open the machine cover Remove the transfer head from the ProFlow mount Load the product file ‘CALIBRA.PR1’ Load a
