Việt Nam Năm 1978, Wayne Booth có nhận định đáng ý rằng, xét từ bùng nổ nghiên cứu ẩn dụ kỉ 20, dự báo đến năm 2039 ―số ngƣời nghiên cứu ẩn dụ nhiều dân thƣờng‖ (there will be more students of metaphor than people‖) [58, tr 49] Nhận định ơng mang tính chất cƣờng điệu nhƣng cho thấy quan tâm ngày sâu sắc giới nghiên cứu ngôn ngữ ẩn dụ, thực tế chứng minh dự báo vô số lƣợng nghiên cứu ẩn dụ không ngừng gia tăng, đặc biệt từ sau năm 1980, Lakoff Johnson viết sách Metaphors we live by (Chúng ta sống ẩn dụ), xác lập quan niệm ẩn dụ Lý thuyết ẩn dụ ý niệm (Conceptual Metaphor Theory) đóng vai trị quan trọng ngơn ngữ học nói chung ngơn ngữ học tri nhận nói riêng Trƣớc đây, theo quan điểm truyền thống, ẩn dụ đƣợc coi biện pháp tu từ đƣợc sử dụng chủ yếu văn chƣơng hùng biện Tuy nhiên, nhiều kỉ qua, nhà ngôn ngữ học khơng ngừng tranh cãi cố gắng tìm chất ẩn dụ Mãi đến năm 80 kỉ 20, với đời ngôn ngữ học tri nhận, ẩn dụ đƣợc nhìn nhận dƣới góc độ phƣơng thức tƣ Trong sách Metaphors We
