HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT BUSM3310 (HRM) Summative Assessment Semester 1, 2021 Name: Tran Chi Hieu Student no s3821188 Introduction Part A Question one: Question two: Part B References Appendices 4 9 Introduction HRM strategy is related to as the most effective way to manage people combined with business purposes to develop business outcomes (HR Zone) According to Purcell (1999), SHRM is focused on making differentiation of a business compared to other rivals This approach highlights the importance of the HR department to an organisation In modern society, critics argue that strategic human resource management is an excellent idea in theory yet challenging to practice at the organisational level (HR Zone) Therefore, this report is about to discuss the relationship in working as a team as well as ethical management in organisations Then, the report analyses two articles from the reading list to give an insight into Human Resources Management subject Part A Question one: By definition, teamwork is the process of working with a group of people from two or more to achieve a common goal It is a crucial part of any organisation as co-workers need to work together often, trying their best to get the most effective results In today's society, there are a major of people who believe that working together is essential Research shows that nearly in employers rate teamwork and collaboration as “crucial” factor for a great employee They understand that the results of an idea are often brought together by many people, not oneself A mountainous ninety-seven per cent of corporate executives, employees, and educators believe that a lack of connection within a team could directly impact the outcome of a project (O.C.Tanner) Furthermore, with the ravages of COVID-19, working remotely for employees, especially cross-functional people, teamwork is vital for establishing business response and continuity (Deloitte n.d) Teamwork plays an essential role in the functioning of an organisation From human resource management theory, working in teams would enhance creativity, quality, speed, productivity, and employee satisfaction (Nankervis, Baird & Coffey 2019) These theories are experienced by Starbucks Coffee, which well-known for not only the quality of products but also the customer service and cozy atmosphere Starbucks provides a comfortable place for customers to socialise with a fair price that attracts customers of all ages to come here Besides, employee satisfaction is also very concerned here, to which only a few other organisations pay attention It could be seen that the turnover rate of workers and managers in a year was 65 per cent and 25 per cent respectively In contrast, the rate of employees and managers from their competitors are 150 to 400 per cent and 50 per cent respectively Therefore, Starbucks would be one of the optimal enterprise models for strategies of employee impulse, consumer satisfaction and collaboration of teamwork Starbucks developed a well-done system to maintain a good connection between managers and employees to keep good relationships This firm set a title for every stakeholder as a “ partner “, which narrows the gap of bureaucracy Moreover, the number of employees in each shift only from three to six workers, which let stakeholders get to know each other quickly and deeply Employees’ complaints and suggestions are treated equally, making them feel they contribute to this firm directly and fairly As a result, all of this gives employee respects and a sense of participation Howard Stark, the chief executive officer of Starbucks, believes that Starbucks’ value is not about coffee but employees He mentioned the spirit of this firm are workers in here as well as offer an incentive salary and many welfare benefits to make personnel throw themselves into their job (Academia 2013) Based on my own experience, team collaboration would make a better outcome than working individually In detail, other team members could bring different aspects of an event or a project that one could not find Hence, teamwork brings a multidimensional perspective of an event Moreover, team members could support each other weaknesses and improving strengths to give effective results, which working individually could not does In conclusion, working as a team could make a direct impact on business outputs To ensure the best results, fair and effective policies are the top priorities for developing one’s business effectively Question two: In a business, customer are often viewed as “ everything “ However, there is an event about the incident of a passenger being dragged off a United Airlines flight that shocked global public opinion, which described as "involuntary de-boarding" to get crew members on the plane, should have been resolved by bargaining, but it quickly devolved into a duress act (Zdanowicz & Grinberg 2018) After the video was leaked to social media, it affected instantly dropped the United Airlines stock market by billion U.S Dollars (Kottasova 2017) The ethical issues listed above demonstrate the limitations of ethical management in today's industry Ethics, by definition, are rules and beliefs that distinguish morally wrong from morally proper conduct (Nankervis, Baird & Coffey 2019) Wrongdoings are occurring globally and in more dynamic forms due to recent changes in corporate operating practices, highlighting the need for innovative tools to manage moral issues (Snellman 2015) The organisational culture, which comprises shared values, priorities, and behaviours, is critical in defining employee ethics and achieving optimal business efficiency (Arulrajah 2015) As a result, HR administrators should be in charge of building and maintaining an ethical environment that promotes the development of internal ethics While people are the "ultimate moral agency" for themselves, studies show that workers often depend on top management's help and guidance to develop rational and ethical habits in corporate relationships (Ghosh 2008) With this in mind, Wesfarmers' code of ethics clearly states and explains their ethical standards of workers (Appendix 1) Furthermore, as the corporation strives for the highest level of conduct and ethics in supply chain operations, employees were instructed ethical procurement and industrial slavery to ensure their willingness to spot immoral behaviour (Wesfarmers n.d) Firms that employ child labour, on the other hand, promote inefficient corporate activities and are hence more likely to encourage illegal conduct in the workplace Employees at Wesfarmers have a constructive attitude about their business culture and working climate (Appendix 2) Hence, it demonstrates Wesfarmers' progress in defining and upholding ethical standards in their internal working community In conclusion, ethics controversies have erupted worldwide, and they are becoming more complicated due to today's diverse and multicultural working environment Indeed, the HR department plays a critical role in developing and enhancing ethical standards in the workplace by establishing and maintaining common perspectives on sustainability among internal stakeholders Nonetheless, considering these problems’ human and situational characteristics, it remains difficult for businesses to eradicate unethical activities Part B research/ to a the present, HRM needs to integrate this type of reports strengthening their particular topic) position in a sustainable role (3) In this case, the authors use the based literature reviews to avoid constrained by specificity in terms of variables or examining relationships between variables Furthermore, the SLR helps this more exactly identify patterns and ensure research rigour (4) The authors are focus on the relationship between CSS/CSR and HRM with the SLR (5) (6) However, some limitations about the SLR, including limited topics for research, provide a qualitative analysis of the CSR/S-HRM integration literature and only published in the English language (7) In conclusion, HRM contributes a crucial role in sustainability development by proving its position in CSR/CSS: strategic support, employee advocacy, and social support (8) From my perspective, after reading the article, it is clear that SLR has presented an overview of the contemporary theory applied between CSR and HRM, hence, affirming the role (6) Limitations (7) Conclusions (8) Reflection of HRM in the sustainable development of a company (1) Jesús Barrena-Martínez, Macarena López-Fernández & (7) Conclusions This article clarifies the issue of socially responsible human resource (8) Reflection management (SR-HRM) in today's society and received a majority of consensus on this plan (3) Researches shows the effective outcomes while using the Delphi method to evaluate Nonetheless, there are some limitations, such as the difficulty of estimating the level of experience amid the participants or their lack of experience in analysing different constructs Then, researchers applied four stages to give a clear academic point of view (4) The authors are analysing the connection between CSR report and HRM deeply In detail, two types of CSR reports are trending: the Global Reporting Initiative and ISO 26000 The article analysed to give insight into the relationship between HRM and CSR report and broaden the knowledge about the role of CSR in this World (5) Through the article, the author pointed out a clear perspective about the Social Response HRM ( SR-HRM ) system, providing insight into the potential enhancements of CSR actions in internal functions such as HRM (6) However, some limitations are related to the academic credibility of the high-risk R&R (repeatability and reproducibility) of measures It is almost impossible to the same survey twice Without reproducible steps, we cannot isolate and evaluate the measurement error (7) In conclusion, the author proved the importance of CSR’s role in contributing to the World in general under HR practices and the workplace (8) In my opinion, this report are up-todate about reality situation and reflect the importance of CSR report into HRM aspect References Arulrajah, A 2015, ‘Contribution of Human Resource Management in Creating and Sustaining Ethical Climate in the Organizations’, Sri Lankan
