Graduation Paper ABSTRACT This thesis presents the suggested version of the original chapter in the book, and provides some terminologies and vocabulary in the building foundation skills issue Furthermore, it gives some difficulties and solutions happening during the translation process, especially when translating some phrases and sentences relating to the building foundation skill problem Graduation Paper CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION RATIONALE Hard Times is a novel that examines British society and satirizes the economic and social conditions of the times The issue of society is always a concern of countries around the world, including Vietnam This book attracted me and made me want to learn more about problems in many countries So there are two reasons for me to choose "Hard Times" Firstly, reading is changing the lives of young people every day, from work and entertainment to many other fields and it also creates new fields and new tasks Especially the novel "Hard Times" - The book surveys English society and satirizes the social and economic conditions of the era Secondly, this novel offers a wide range of knowledge in different fields As a student whose major is translating and interpreting, I would like to choose this book to complete my graduation paper I hope that I can apply many things I have studied during four years at university and my experience to finish this book AIMS AND OBJECTIVES 2.1 Aims There are two points this graduation paper aims at The first aim of the paper is studying and exchanging the experience, especially when translating the book relating the population issue With the translation and interpretation method of words and sentence structures, the paper would like to figure out the strength and the weakness of the personal useful information about British society and economy 2.2 Objectives - To equip you with knowledge of History - To help me gain experience in translating books - To master how to translate and analyze difficult words and structures SCOPE OF THE STUDY The scope of the study will help us with skills to study and work more effectively and smarter Besides, it will give us new ways of thinking, and help you can definite ourselves These things are not only helpful for us when we are studying in colleges or schools but also in the future And in this translated version, I will bring the translation, which including the definition of personal qualities and its benefits Besides, it also helps us build up our skills, and positive thinking to succeed in work and study 3.1 The Text Features 3.1.1 Biography Information of Charles Dickens Charles John Huffam Dickens was an English writer and social critic He created some of the world's best-known fictional characters and is regarded by many as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era His works enjoyed unprecedented popularity during his lifetime and, by the 20th century, critics and scholars had recognised him as a literary genius His novels and short stories are still widely read today 3.1.2 About the Book “Hard Times” “Hard Times” is the tenth novel by Charles John Huffam Dickens The “Hard Times” was first published in 1854 for goes through This novel does not recreate the London scene like Dickens' contemporaries, but rather reconstructs the foreground of an industrial town as configured as Coketown - the town one thinks is in Preston This book is a “teacher” for people who want to be accquire knowledge but don’t know what to or where to begin In this graduation paper, I will give a suggested translated version of the book with about 4000 words in length of Chapter and 9, which focus on “Book the first Sowing”, as knows as the start points 3.2 Text Length This book has parts, which were divided into many chapters I translated only two chapters in Part due to the time limitation I translated 4,948 words of the Chapter and called “Never Wonder” and "Sissy's progress" 3.3 The Text Organization This book is divided into three Parts and the text I choose belongs to Chapter and of Part Chapter 8: Never Wonder - Introduction - The story at Coketown Chapter 9: Sissy’s Progress - Sissy Jupe's hard time between Mr
