LESSON PLAN UNIT 7: CULTURAL DIVERSITY Student-in-charge: Hồ Quang Khải Type of lesson: Student’s ID number: DAV187027 Communication and culture Instructor: Trần Thị Thúy Vi Time allowed: 45 minutes Grade: 10 Date: 18/03/2022 Class: 10C Period: I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: -Acknowledge some vocabularies about gift-giving custom in the UK and Vietnam -Make questions about giving and receiving presents -Comparing and contrast it with gift-giving in Viet Nam -Know more about the term “Success” in both countries which are the UK and Vietnam II Teaching materials: textbook, LCD projector, blackboard, miniboard, power point slides, colored chalk III Procedure: Time 5m Content A COMMUNICATION Warm-up: Guessing There are some photos of gift-giving custom in some celebrations and festivals Look at these photos and guess the name of the occasions as fast as possible Tet holiday Chrishmast day Valentine's day Teacher'sday Teacher and Students’ Activities -T asks Ss to guess the name of the occasions -T shows picture on the screen and starts to elicit from the pictures -Ss make guesses -T gives feedbacks Link: After guessing some special occasions, To learn more about them, let’s go to Unit 7: Cultural diversityCommunication Time 5m Content Teacher and Students’ Activities and culture Vocabulary stockings (n) /ˈstɒk.ɪŋ/: tất, vớ chimney (n) /ˈtʃɪm.ni/: ống khói symbolize (v) /ˈsɪm.bəl.aɪz/: tượng trưng cho entry (n) /ˈen.tri/: bước vào Easter (n) /ˈiː.stər/: lễ Phục sinh self-reliance /self rɪˈlaɪəns/ (n): tự lập prosperous /ˈprɒspərəs/ (adj): thành cơng, giàu có 5m Task 1:Talk to a partner about customs in Viet Nam Countries Vietnam Occasions Presents -T uses approriate teachnique to teach vocabulary -T asks Ss to repeat in chorus, then individually -T invites Ss to repeat -T asks Ss to talk with their partners to talk about customs in Vietnam and the UK -T shows answer on the screen Key: -T explains the activity to Ss -T asks Ss to read the text Time Content 10m Example 1: A: I don’t get presents on Christmas Day, but I get lucky money on New Year’s Day B: Oh really? I get presents on both Christmas Day and New Year Day A: Lucky You! Example 2: A: Do you give present to your mother on Mother’s Day? Time Content B CULTURE Success for the Americans and the Vietnamese 1m Task 1: Read the two texts about the American and the Vietnamese ideas of success and answer the questions What is the American idea of success? Who can be considered a successful person in Viet Nam? What are the similarities/ differences between the ideas of success in the two cultures?
