The year of 2009 is over, leaving us with feelings of different modes. In the context of global economic crisis, countries around the world have joined together with “emergency rescue resolutions” for the global economy. Accordingly, Vietnamese Government has taken timely reactions by intensively directing the implementation of packages of comprehensive measures. As a result, Vietnam became one of the few countries which had a positive growth rate, reaching 5.32% per cent.
To actively meet with general challenges, Vietnam National
Tobacco Corporation (the
Corporation) proposed specific solutions which were consistent with the actual situation and closely attached to the basis of 5 packages of measures of the Government. Under guidance of the Party Committee, the Board of Management, the Board of Directors as well as efforts of affiliated companies and overall staffs and employees, the Corporation has successfully completed the plan one month before schedule with impressive performance: production sales increased by
11.1%, budget contribution
increased 24%, profit increased 7%, export turnover reached US$147 million. These achievements have created a strong beliefs for us in the implementation of targets of the year 2010 – last year of the of the Five-Year Plan (2006-2010).
2009 has also brought about great events to the Corporation: Saigon Tobacco Company, after 80 years in the path of innovation and development, has been honorably granted with the First Class Independent Order, a noble reward by the Party and the State.
Vinataba brand, with 20 years serving consumers, has become a national well-known brand with consumption volume 500 million packs in 2009. Tobacco Trading Company, starting business with transporting services, after 20 years, has also become a large cigarette distributor with nationwide consuming system, contributing to the positive success of the brand Vinataba . We also offer our congratulations to affiliated and associated companies that have gained achievements and become pioneers in the emulation movement of 2009: Tobacco Import-Export Company, Ngan Son Joint Stock Company, Thanh Hoa Tobacco Company, Bac Son Tobacco Company. In line with this, Long An Tobacco Company has turned to be a highlight in the West region when honorably receiving the Third Class Labor Order by the State.
In addition, member units of the Corporation are always aware that quality of the products decides consuming awareness. Confectionary products of Huu Nghi Joint Stock Company, Hai Ha Joint Stock Company and Hai Ha – Kotobuki Joint Venture Company have fully won the belief of consumers in the movement of Vietnamese prioritise Vietnamese goods.
2009 also marked the successes of ventures with foreign partners: BAT-Vinataba, Vina-Toyo, Hai Ha- Kotobuki, Nguyen Du …which reached high growth rates. In the orientation of diversifying business development, the Corporation has found new partner - Sapporo Holdings Limited – a Japanese company, with whom we will establish a venture of brewery. With Japan technology and sophisticated production line, the venture will produce premium beers under Sapporo international brand which
will satisfy the taste of Vietnamese consumers.
With respects to social works of the year 2009, to implement 30a Resolution of the Government, the Corporation has participated in supporting Ha Quang district (Cao Bang province), Bac Ai (Ninh Thuan province) which are 2 poor districts among 61 poor districts across the country. The amount of supporting fund was up to VND7.6 billion.
The year 2010 starts with a wide range of major social and cultural events such as to commemorate 80-year of Vietnam Communist Party establishment; 35-year of Liberation of the South (April 30), 120th Birthday of beloved President Ho (May 19), 65-year founding of the Nation (September 02). This is also the year when all people across the country are directing toward Hanoi capital in the celebration for the 1000th Anniversary of Thang Long.
In harmony with the joy of the whole country, staffs and employees of the Corporation will also greet 2010 by celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Corporation. The Mangement Board and overall staffs and employees, along with the most practical activities, will make their efforts to complete business and operation targets by achieving growth rate 5% -10% compared with the year 2009.
