SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB 2 6 10 10 11 11 11 11 18 21 21 22 22 22 23 24 25 26 26 26 28 30 30 30 30 31 31 35 36 36 37 38 NT1+2a/b+V.24 1.1 Introduction Description of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 NT1+2a/b+V.24 FWSTART The NT1+2a/b+V.24 is the ISDN network terminating unit at subscriber´s side (NTBA) with two independent analog interfaces and an additional V.24 data interface that enables direct connection of PCs The two ISDN interfaces (S/T interfaces) allow direct connection of your ISDN-capable terminals Apart from this, it is possible to link to the NT1+2a/b+V.24 up to eight ISDN terminals by establishing an ISDN S bus If you have at your disposal analog terminals, for example telephones, fax devices, modems or answering machines, you can connect them directly to the analog interfaces at the NT1+2a/b+V.24 Your existing analog devices are now able to provide you with a wide range of ISDN services, such as Call Forwarding, Three Party Service and Calling Line Identification Presentation Terminal adapters (TA) for connecting the analog terminals to the ISDN are no longer required The data interface V.24 integrated in the device NT1+2a/b+V.24 allows you problem-free connection of your PC, of which you simply have to link the network termination to a free COM interface Using the software delivered you can open the door to a variety of application fields, for instance internet, E-mail or computer-based fax transmission Start new firmware This command starts new firmware previously stored in the NT1+2a/b+V.24 The firmware stored in the upper part of the flash memory will be loaded into the executable part of the FlashProm and started Starting includes a hardware reset of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 Note: If new functionality has been added, your configuration stored last may be lost LOAD Load stored parameter setting All parameters stored in non-volatile RAM will be loaded QUIT, EXIT, GO Activate parameter changes Activates the actual parameter settings and leaves the configurator (without storing the parameter in non-volatile memory) RESET U ~ B1 B2 NT1+2a/b+V.24 Reset NT1+2a/b+V.24 Resets the whole functionality of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 by a forced hardware reset (like Power off / on) SAVE st Network 230 V~ analog interface ISDN U interface analog interface nd Store parameter changes Stores the actual set of parameters in non-volatile memory SBUSCONFIG Bus type configuration Carries out configuration of S/T-bus type Internet 0: 1: S bus for up to ISDN terminals Short passive bus Point-to-point/extended bus V.24 data interface Figure 1: View of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB NT1+2a/b+V.24 D.6 NT1+Configuration commands DEFA Default settings Sets up factory default parameter setting DEFA 0: DEFA 1: Setup all parameters concerning data port Setup all parameters including ISDN protocol and MSN settings EMERGENCY Emergency Handling (Setting of emergency allowance/priority interface) In emergency mode only that interface is available that has been given priority The other interfaces are disabled When assigning emergency allowance to the chosen S/T interface, please keep in mind that on S bus only one ISDN-terminal shall be activated as emergency terminal (see also operating instructions for the ISDN terminal) EMERGENCY=0 EMERGENCY=1 EMERGENCY=2 EMERGENCY=3 S/T is emergency interface a/b1 is emergency interface a/b2 is emergency interface a/b1 or a/b2 is emergency interface (dynamic) NT1+2a/b+V.24 1.2 The NT1+2a/b+V.24 in use The user of the ELCON NT1+2a/b+V.24 can dispose of three different interface types designed for connection of a variety of terminals These are: • the S/T interface • both a/b interfaces • the data interface V.24 (RS232) The S/T interface offers connection of two digital ISDN terminals via RJ45 connectors Apart from this, you can establish an S bus, thus linking up to eight digital ISDN terminals with the NT1+2a/b+V.24, whereby four of these terminals can be powered at the same time from the NT1+2a/b+V.24 via S bus With help of the RJ 11 plug connector, one analog terminal can be directly connected to each of both a/b interfaces Besides, establishing a hard-wired connection is also possible at the analog interfaces The data interface V.24 (RS232) allows direct connection of personal computers via their COM interface For establishing a data transmission line, a 9-pole SUB D-cable is used that is linked at one side with a free COM interface at the computer, and at the other – with the NT1+2a/b+V.24 For connection with a 25-pole SUB D COM port at the computer, an adapter DB - DB 25 has to be used The figure below shows some application fields of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 analog digital (The dynamic allocation of emergency activates the a/b interface which is the first to receive the incoming call, resp to start the outgoing call The other a/b interface is switched-off.) FWLOAD Load new firmware This command loads new firmware into the NT1+2a/b+V.24 without starting The firmware will be stored into the unused upper part of the flash memory During the uploading procedure the NT is working normally DECT a/b1 Figure 2: Sample application 38 Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB a/b2 V.24 S/T NT1+2a/b+V.24 Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB NT1+2a/b+V.24 1.3 System prerequisites for installation of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 To offer usage of the whole range of services provided by the NT1+2a/b+V.24, the following conditions should be fulfilled: • • • • • For local power supply, an appropriate 230 VAC mains connection is required For connection to the ISDN you need an ISDN subscriber line (U) with line code 2B1Q and transfer protocol Euro ISDN DSS 1, provided by your telecommunications network operator Regarding the configuration of your NT1+2a/b+V.24, please ask your telecommunications network operator Only such devices that will meet the electric safety requirements according to EN 60950 and that are marked with the CE symbol shall be connected to the interfaces of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 The terminals shall be equipped with appropriate connectors, otherwise adequate adapters can be used The terminals shall be connected only to the corresponding interfaces that have been designed for them NT1+2a/b+V.24 Please execute the following steps to update the NT1+2a/b+V.24 locally: • Get a new software release for the NT1+2a/b+V.24 from your supplier and copy it to your PC • Start a terminal emulation on your PC with the capability to run an X-MODEM file transfer (i.e HyperTerminal) • Enter the AT command “AT**FWLOAD“ • Wait for end of erasing the Flash-EPROM and the prompt to start your XMODEM transfer • Start the 1kX-MODEM file transfer (send file or upload) by selecting the Transfer / Send File menu point in your terminal emulation and select the new software • After completion you will get the information whether the software update ended successfully or erroneously • Give the NT1+2a/b+V.24 about 20 seconds to activate the new software • Due to new functionality, the configuration setting stored last may be lost, please check this before using the device To set factory default values please use the command "AT&F1" Note: Using the data interface V.24 requires below given additional conditions: • • • • • • IBM-compatible computer running at a clock frequency of > 75 MHz Operating memory 16 Mbyte Free hard disc memory 50 Mbyte CD-ROM disc drive Operating system Windows `95 or Windows `98 Free serial interface (COM- Port) with interface module UART 16550 (Data transfer rate > 115 kbps; better > 230 kbps) Most of the personal computers manufactured in 1996 are already equipped with the required serial interface module In case of questions or problems related to this topic, please contact the manufacturer or seller of your computer Note: D.5 Due to an error it may happen that no firmware is active within the NT1 This will be indicated by flashing of the LEDs L1, L2, B1, B2 (Bootloader active) To store a new firmware correctly, you have to enter the command AT**FLASH and to load a firmware using the XMODEM protocol as described above After altering one of the profile values marked by (#1) you have to enter the additional commands SAVE and GO This is necessary to save and activate these new parameters List of NT1+Configurator commands (Analog port AT commands) AB/1.APLUGSWITCH AB/2.APLUGSWITCH Enable plug switching After going on hook the line will not be disconnected for the time adjusted in APLUGSWITCHTIME This makes it possible to change the analog devices AB/.APLUGSWITCH=1 AB/.APLUGSWITCH=0 AB/1.APLUGSWITCHTIME AB/2.APLUGSWITCHTIME Enable plug switching Disable plug switching Plug switching time AB/.APLUGSWITCHTIME=1 Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB Plug switching time The value shall be entered in 50 ms steps Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB 37 NT1+2a/b+V.24 Note: If you are not sure, in which format the calling number will be presented with an incoming call, please use the command ATV2 to identify the format of the calling number in the RING message This number can be entered into the ACCTAB D.3 Subaddressing With outgoing and incoming calls the transmission of subaddresses can be performed using the ISDN supplementary service SUB The subaddress is transmitted transparently from the calling party to the called party before the B-channel connection is established Please note, that this ISDN service typically has to be enabled by the ISDN service provider and may be charged additionally The subaddress is separated from the called number by a slash “/“ NT1+2a/b+V.24 1.4 Safety precautions Before installing and commissioning the NT1+2a/b+V.24, please read these operating instructions thoroughly These instructions will help you to use the device to its full extent and to avoid damage resulting from improper application • • • • • The functionality Subaddressing can be used with the dialling procedures AT-command set, PAD X.3 and automatic call • Examples: • • ATDisdnnumber[/subaddr] isdnnumber Dialling called party number subaddr Called subaddress RING [[/subaddr]] CONNECT [[/subaddr]] rn Calling party number subaddr Calling party subaddress The NT1+2a/b+V.24 has been manufactured according to state-of-the-art technology and corresponds to well-accepted safety regulations Please make sure that the device is operated only in faultless condition and that these operating instructions are observed Only authorized specialists are allowed to operate the NT1+2a/b+V.24 After connecting the device, install the right supply voltage (→ Technical data)! The NT1+2a/b+V.24 has no individual component for interrupting the supply voltage The device must be placed within 1.5 meters from the mains socket Care should be taken when installing the power supply and the connection cables to avoid the risk of accidents (such as tripping over the cables) The device shall be operated only within a temperature range from °C to +40 °C In case of device failure please contact the manufacturer or the representative in your vicinity Apart from these safety precautions, installation and operation instructions are also given in the respective chapters We reserve the right to modify the contents of these operating instructions The own subaddress (calling subbaddress) can be setup using the configuration command SUB Note: D.4 The subaddress can be entered additionally into all tables that contain ISDN numbers for dialling or checking an ISDN address Local software update The NT1+2a/b+V.24 uses a Flash-EPROM for software updates to store the operational software This software can be updated from a locally connected PC via the COM port or via a remote configuration connection 36 Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB NT1+2a/b+V.24 2.1 Mounting Scope of delivery • • • • • • • 2.2 NT1+2a/b+V.24 Z NT1+2a/b+V.24 – ISDN network terminating unit with two analog interfaces and one data interface V.24 (RS232) Mounting accessories (dowels, screws, drilling template) Mounting and operating instruction Software for configuration of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 (optional) Floppy disk with installation software Windows 95/98 and Windows NT (optional) V.24 Standard modem cable SUB-D 9-pole (1:1) (optional) V.24 COM port adapter DB - DB 25 (optional) Selection of mounting site / Fastening the device NT1+2a/b+V.24 The NT1+2a/b+V.24 is designed for wall mounting Select an appropriate mounting spot for the device near to the U-subscriber line from your network operator Apart from this, the device has to be installed near the 230 V mains socket, since the power plug represents the link to the supply mains Make sure that the power plug is always easy accessible The cable length is 1.5 m Please make sure that there are no other concealed supply lines (e.g power, water, gas, telecommunication supply lines) and that the device is not exposed to direct insolation Apart from this, the device shall be protected from moisture The active configuration will be reset to the stored configuration This must be the last command in an AT command string ATZ D.2 Important note: After mounting and cabling the device not forget to replace the cover again Operating the device without protective cover is not allowed, due to the danger of voltage-carrying parts being contacted by mistake ISDN access control Using these commands you can setup a table, to allow only definite callers to get a connection to the NT1 If this list is empty (default) or one entry is set to star (*), any incoming call is allowed Every incoming call that does not fit to one of the entries of ACCTAB will be ignored The received calling party number is compared to every entry beginning at the last digit and is stopped when the shorter number is completely compared acctabx nn/ss acctabx acctabx * acctabx acctab The hints required for mounting the device are to be found directly on the drilling template Due to the chosen mounting holes it may be necessary to remove the cover Before removing the cover, make sure that the circuit is dead To remove the cover, press the locking pins on both sides of the device inwards and at the same time remove the cover In case you want to implement hardwiring of your terminals, connect the cables before closing the device Mounting of the cover shall be performed in reverse way, slipping on the upper cover part until the locking pins will audibly snap into place Load stored settings set entry number x to ISDN number nn and subaddress ss clear entry number x allow all incoming calls to be accepted show entry number x show all entries Maximum number of entries = 5; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB S/T interface RJ 45 ISDN U interface Supply cord Analog interfaces RJ 11 Hard-wired analog ports Data interface V.24 Hard-wired S/T interface Figure 3: Connection facilities As shown in above figure, three different types of interfaces for terminal connection are available to the user of the ELCON NT1+2a/b+V.24 These are: • the S/T interface • both a/b interfaces • the data interface V.24 (RS232) The S/T interface offers connection of two digital ISDN terminals via RJ45 connectors Apart from this, you can establish an S bus, thus linking up to eight digital ISDN terminals with the NT1+2a/b+V.24, whereby four of these terminals can be powered at the same time from the NT1+2a/b+V.24 via S bus When establishing the S bus, keep in mind to terminate the bus by terminating resistors (100 Ω) (see below scheme) For establishing the S bus in Y-configuration, both ends of the bus shall be terminated by terminating resistors The exact pin assignment of the RJ45 connectors is described in Annex A Furthermore, it shall be mentioned that the S/T interface, resp the S bus, can be operated in two different configurations: The first configuration type is the so-called „short passive bus“, and the other – the „extended passive bus“ with the „point-to-point“ configuration The transmission range that can be reached with either of above mentioned variants, as well as the form of the two bus types, are presented in below figure Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB 33 NT1+2a/b+V.24 The parameter settings of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 obtained when using the AT commands can be permanently stored (AT&W) and are not lost when resetting or by leaving the AT command mode To enter the AT command mode during an active data connection, use the following sequence ("Escape sequence"): at least sec pause sec pause The time gap between all three plus signs shall not exceed sec The escape sequence is transmitted transparently to the remote device Supported ISDN and NT specific AT commands A/ Repeat last command string This command repeats the commands of the last entered command string Note: No prefix AT is required A/ A Accept incoming calls With this command you can accept an incoming call if automatic call acceptance is not set (Register S0 = 0) An incoming call is displayed by the message “RING“ or the code “2“ This must be the last command in an AT command sequence NT1+2a/b+V.24 The wire pairs, responsible for „transmitting“ and „receiving“, are electrically terminated (with 100 Ω each) by appropriate terminating resistors → TR of the S bus Unlike the Yconfiguration of the short passive bus, the terminating resistors of the first S-bus end are accommodated inside the NT1+2a/b+V.24 With the Y-configuration of the short passive bus, the device-internal terminating resistors have to be switched off by means of DIP switches (Figure 9) The terminating resistors at the second end of the S bus are preferably installed in the last (most distant from the NT1+2a/b+V.24) junction socket or, alternatively, plugged in one of the RJ 45 jacks at the last junction socket With help of RJ 11 plug connector, one analog terminal can be directly connected to each of both a/b interfaces Besides, establishing a hard-wired connection is also possible at the analog interfaces However, the length of such a hard-wired line shall not exceed 250 m You will find the exact pin assignment of the RJ 11 connectors in Annex B The data interface V.24 (RS232) allows direct connection of personal computers via their COM interface For establishing a data transmission a 9-pole SUB D-cable is used that is linked at one side with a free COM interface at the computer, and at the other – with the NT1+2a/b+V.24 A „1 to 1“ modem cable is recommended to be used as data transmission cable The cable shall be fixed to the devices by appropriate screws and protected from tensile loads The pin assignment at the connectors is shown in the Annex C Attention: Cable coupling • ATA • B Set B-channel protocol Transmission protocol for data transfer • ATB protocol no 10 13 31 32 B-channel protocol V.110 asynchronous HDSL transparent X.75 SLP V.120 async MLPPP Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21; SW: HuV1; HW: ChLayB Operation of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 in case of local power-supply breakdown (emergency mode) The NT1+2a/b+V.24 supports two analogue susbcriber ports a/b1 and a/b2 and a digital S/T interface Both subscriber interfaces have identical functionality and can be used independently of each other In emergency mode (Failure of local power supply [230 VAC]) only one interface of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 maintains functionality with only one terminal connected to it This is necessary, since in emergency mode the NT1+2a/b+V.24 is fed from the exchange and the telephone network is able to provide only a limited wattage The functioning interfaces in emergency mode of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 can be either an analog interface a/b1 or a/b2 or the digital S/T interface With the configuration of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 it is possible to determine which of the interfaces shall maintain its functionality in emergency mode The configuration of this priority-given interface shall be executed as described in chapter 3.3 resp annex D It is expressly underlined, that in case of emergency operation of the NT1+2a/b+V.24 only one terminal shall be used on that respective interface Version: 3.02: Poland 2000/09/21;
