LESSON 3 : Listen
A.Objectives:
1 Aims: By the end of the lesson , Ss will be able to listen to a passage about
polluted ocean and complete the passage
2 Practice skill:
- Practice listening, writing and speaking skill
3 The knowledge needs to get:
+ Standard knowledge: The ocean pollution
+ Advanced knowledge: Talk about polluted ocean
4 Basic language: The ocean pollution
-Vocabulary: Raw sewage , Oil spills , Marine life - Waste materials , Regulations
5 Attitude:- Help ss to have good consciousness in order to listen to the report on
how our oceans are polluted and complete the notes

II / New lesson:
Step 1:Pre – listening :
* Introduce the aims of the lesson and some new words
to Ss :
- Raw sewage (n) : untreated wastewater
- Oil spills (n) : the release of oil into the natural
environment , usually the ocean
- Marine life (n) : Plants and animals of the oceans
- Waste materials (n) : waste material , especially metal
awaiting reprocessing
- Regulations (n) : rules
* Checking technique : What and where
- Ask Ss to predict “ What pollutes the oceans ? “
- Call on some Ss to report their ideas and write on the
board
Step 2 / While – listening :
Set the scene “ You are going to listen to a report on
how our oceans are polluted Study the notes
carefully then listen to the tape and complete the
notes “
- Turn on the tape (2 or 3 times )
- Ask Ss to compare the answers with their friends
- Call on some Ss to read aloud the answers , and give
the correct answers :
Firstly : raw sewage is pumped directly into the sea
Secondly : Garbage is dropped into the sea
Thirdly : oil spills come from ships at sea
Next : Waste materials come from factories
- Listen and repeat in chorus , individually
- Copy down
- Predict and report
Listen carefully
- Listen and complete the notes
- Compare their answers with their partners
- Read their answers aloud
- Read the complete passage aloud

“Our oceans are becoming extremely polluted Most of this pollution comes from the land, which means it comes from people First, there is raw sewage, which is pumped directly into sea Many countries, both developed and developing, are guilty of doing this Secondly, ships drop about 6 million tons of garbage into the sea each year Thirdly, there are oil spills from ships A ship has an accident and oil leaks from the vessel This not only pollutes the water, but is also kills marine life Next, there are waste materials from factories Without proper regulations, factory owners let the waste run directly into the rivers, which then leads to the sea And finally, oil is washed from land This can be result of carelessness or a deliberate dumping of waste”

the environment
2 Practice skill:
- Practice listening, reading skill
3 The knowledge needs to get:
+ Standard knowledge: The environment problems and the solutions.
+ Advanced knowledge: Talk about the things which protect the environment.
4 Basic language: The simple present, conditional sentences: type 1
-Vocabulary: - junk yard, treasure, hedge , nonsense, foam, stream, valuable
5 Attitude:
- Help ss to have good consciousness in order to read a poem about the
environment Educate the Ss to love and protect the environment

- Ask students to repeat the words chorally

- When all the English words are rubbed out, go
through the Vietnamese list and get students to call
out the English equivalent
- If there’s time, get students to come to the board and
write the English words again
