of the attention from the participants It also shows that par-time jobs such as waiters or sales, teaching assistants and so on, which are very interested in students Through all of the above factors, this study also provides certain useful information for students who want or are looking for part-time jobs The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen TABLE OF CONTENTS Abstract LIST OF of ISBA freshmen Introduction According to the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Global Employment Trends for Youth report (2012), the utilization of transitory contracts for youthful specialists has multiplied since the onset of the financial emergency There has been a rise in numerous created economies of non-standard shapes of work Therefore, in that context a concern concerning working time courses of action including exceptionally brief part-time hours and courses of action with no setup least hours at all, such as “oncall” work and “zero hours' ' contracts (Jon C and Paul, 2015, p.1) In this day and age, the part-time job is an issue that is of great concern to young people and they can see advertising about part-time jobs on social networking sites or a notice in the paper or can be heard from friends and so on Part-time jobs can be understood as requiring labor to work in a shorter time to compare with an employee working full time One way to clearly describe “Part-time worker” as an utilized individual whose typical hours of work are less than those of comparable full-time laborer (Vương, et al, 2015, p.106) Very short hours are the key characteristic of this form of employment Normally, the people who work part-time can only work 4-8 hours per day or work less than 30 or 35 hours weekly (Vương, et al, 2015, p.106) Not only that, working part-time is one of the recruitment forms, which is a non-standard business Today, the economy is growing strongly, many new entertainment services appear These are all places that attract students and are also demanding on the labor force Not only that, employment trends are also changing among young people as there are so many types of part-time jobs, especially in a lot of countries in the world In the bounty of advanced nations, Part-time work is closely connected to working within the casual economy, and so its quality is tied to measures pointed at moving forward working conditions and social assurance within the non-economic division In the meantime, the normal share of transitory business for grown-up laborers remained unaltered As of 2000, youthful individuals within the European Union were four times as likely as grown-ups to be transitory workers, with 35.2 percent of youth workers on transitory contracts, compared with 8.9 percent for grown-ups, over 25 long years of age (ILO, 2012) In ILO news in 2012, there are research comments that show that Part- The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen time work is the foremost far-reaching sort of non-standard work found among ladies Besides, in the research of Jon C Messenger and Paul Wallot (2015, p.1), they have studied that “marginal” part-time or short-term part-time jobs make up a significant portion of the labor force in many economies such as Australia, Germany, the United States, the UK and so on Their development of part-time welfare inspires me to carry out a research paper about “The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen” Not only in some countries in the world but also in Viet Nam, Part-time jobs have been and always will be a hot issue Nguyen Huu Chi and Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen (GSO) (2010, p.2) wrote in their research that as other Asian nations, Vietnam has been influenced by the universal emergency and financial development has moderated down While the normal yearly development rate has come to 8.5% in 2004-2007, it diminished to 6.5% in 2008 and 5.3% in 2009(ILO, 2010 , p.2) In spite of the fact that the effect of the worldwide emergency was expansive, it might not be as expensive as in other nations within the locale (ILO, 2010 , p.2) With China, Vietnam has been one of the few Asian nations not in retreat in 2009 But that is only in the past In modern times, Vietnam is developing and growing stronger Moreover, many fast food brands such as Lotteria ,KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s or Circle K or so on, are gradually entering the rapidly growing Vietnamese market It is for that reason , the demand for the workforce and the ability to find jobs has also increased That is why there are new interests and preferences on this topic among Vietnamese people in general Or it can be said that this is a strong boom in recent years Among many people from different age groups, there is a large proportion of college students who have the ability to accept, approach new ideas and experience new things Most of the students are choosing the form of part-time work because of the many benefits and benefits that it brings to themselves There has been a study of a group of students in economics faculty of Can Tho university to determine the factors affecting the students' decision to work part-time In spite of their promising results, these things had a few restrictions since they had not, however, been able to put through and discover the trend of choosing part-time jobs for students in HaNoi in recent years That is the reason why I conduct this research to The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen clarify more about the career choice trends of young people, especially the first year students in ISBA where I am currently studying As a result, this research is conducted to answer the three taking after the address: “What are reasons that affect student’s choice of part-time jobs ?” ; “ What are the benefits that students can earn from parttime jobs?” and “What makes students concerned about having part-time jobs ? ” Furthermore, the study will go down on each aspect such as students can get bad academic performance when they have work or they have to pay attention to what things as well as what students can learn and experience to serve the main job in the future In conclusion, this research will focus on the trend of choosing part-time jobs for first year students at ISBA Literature Review There are a number of research papers on the issue of part-time employment both abroad and in Vietnam However, the foreign studies that I read are published by the ILO Therefore, these research studies may not be suitable for the situation of Vietnam In Viet Nam, there has been a study of a group of students in economics faculty of Can Tho university to determine the factors affecting the students' decision to work parttime Although promising results, these also have some limitations due to surveying only a small portion of students in Can Tho University Moreover, because that study did not mention the trends of choosing part-time jobs, or some deeper problems of students in recent years Methodology Most of the information in this research paper comes from the results of a survey of ISBA freshmen Those selected to participate in this study are ISBA's first-year students with or without part-time work in both sexes There are two main methods that are qualitative and quantitative It has differences between the two methods above According to DR Saul McLeod (2019), this simple qualitative thing that can be understood is the process of assembling, analyzing, and interpreting data There are a variety of ways of qualitative research methods such as collecting and analyzing nonnumeric, uses emergent, flexible procedures, concerned with depth, diversity, and The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen context, focus group, builds theory inductively or deductively, and so on Turning to quantitative research, this type of research includes the most objective data collection and analysis process According to the research of Abbey Rennemeyer (2020), rather than talking to individuals and getting their suppositions, you’re asking them yes or no questions Rather than inquiring somebody why they something, you’re finding out what they do, or how numerous individuals that thing, or how frequently and so on This research paper will use both of the two ways mentioned above to get objective and accurate results In order to answer the questions in this study such as “What reasons”, “What benefits”, or “What makes students concern about”, maybe just use one of the research methods above Qualitative is the most used method in this study However, according to the research of Abbey Rennemeyer (2020), the method of research is never really definitive and it often has to be supported by quantitative research This is due to the fact that the disadvantage of this method, it is difficult to attract others to participate in answering interview questions (possibly due to lack of time or unwillingness to share) As a result, the quantitative method will be used in combination with the qualitative method This is simply because the combination of both methods increase the policy, honesty of the research and in order to explore more aspects and problems There are ways to get information and data through questionnaires or interviews The questionnaire will be used in which participants are asked to answer different questions which are designed based on the research questions In case of questions that are too difficult to write down a good answer to avoid people omitting non-option answers, interviewing is the preferred option Besides, the first part of the questionnaire is information about the interviewees Then there are detailed, specific questions related to those who have, are, will, and have not a part-time job All responses, information, and data from both types of interviews such as questionnaires and interviews will be recorded as data for future research In addition, in-depth interviews have been conducted when the results of the study are still not really clear and accurate In conclusion, I believe that thanks to the above methods, the data obtained are completely accurate, reliable and can give the most definite and objective research results The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen Result Through a survey of 200 people (including 109 female, 81 male, other and some people who hide their gender ) who are first-year students of ISBA As expected, there are many differences of opinion around part-time jobs Figure 1: Student employment situation 44% 57% Yes No As can be seen from the chart, of the 200 people who participated in the survey, the percentage of people who have a part-time job was 44%, which was 13% lower than people who have not part-time jobs The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen Figure 2: The reasons why student not have part-time job 45% 41% 40% 40% 36% 35% 30% 32% 30% 28% 25% 20% 15% 10% 3.2% 5% 0% Don't have time Lazy Objected by which was the highest at about 41% Don’t want to affect the academic performance and family objections were the next reasons why students don’t work part-time The two reasons above were nearly the same at 40% and 36% respectively Not only that, the reasons such as don’t have time or have good financial potential or afraid to experience a new environment were also typical reasons, which were followed closely at around 28% to 32% Meanwhile, the figure for others such as unable to find both a suitable and well-paid job, can’t arrange class schedules and so on were the lowest at 3.2% 10 The attention from participants with 66% Many people want to develop their personal skills and expand their social relationships to prepare for future careers Therefore, personal skills development came in second place at 60% and the percentage of people who want to expand social relationships was the third-highest at 53.3% In addition, many students also want to have a beautiful CV (32%) and desire to experience (44%) Others occupied 1%, which was the lowest 11 The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen Figure 4:Common type of part-time job among students 40% 35% 35% 32% 32% 30% 27% 25% 22% 25% 20% 32% 31% 16% 15% 15% 15% 10% 5% 0% As can be seen from the chart, the student often chooses to work as a waiter or waitress This figure accounted for the largest proportion at 35% Sales and Teaching assistants were identical at 32% Moreover, students were also interested in careers such as online selling, sales assistant, tutor, photographer or interpreter (translator) or telesales A few other jobs accounted for 15%, which include shippers, bartenders or related to social networks for example tiktoker, youtuber, streamer Figure 5: Most concerning factors when choosing part-time part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen The percentage of people who care about working time was at 63%, which was the highest This is simply because there are many people who not work part-time because they not have time (30%) or cannot arrange a study schedule Moreover, it helps students to arrange their time reasonably and can avoid affecting their academic performance Because the biggest desire of students when working part-time was to earn income Therefore salary was the factor that people were concerned about and it was the second-highest at 56% In addition, work environment (47%), remunerations (43%), relationship between employees (39%), security (31%), facilities (29%) were also important factors when choosing a job Figure : Salary 16% 4% 41% 39% Million/month 1-3 Million/month 3-5 Million/month >5 Million/month The salary was one of the factors that students were concerned about when choosing a part-time job Along with that, from 1million to million was the salary that students aim for with 41% Only a few people, which was at 4%, want a salary less than million per month Between and million per month, this is the salary people want to earn, which was 2% lower than the salary from 1-3 million About 17% of people want to earn more than million per month Discussion of findings 13 The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen Comparative to other considerations, the overcomes about cannot generalize the whole viewpoint of understudies approximately part-time work This is due to the relatively limited scope of the survey as it only surveyed ISBA freshmen However, the study still tried to generalize all the data collected 5.1 The motivating reasons to work part-time jobs In figure 3, the chart illustrates some reasons that impact people's choice to work part-time Out of 200 interviewees, 57% are those who have been working part-time Most of the reason people work part-time is that they want to earn extra income This is due to the fact that not having enough money to pay for daily expenses, or maybe many people want to earn a great deal extra money to cater for personal interests such as shopping, hanging out with friends and so on In addition to making money, developing personal skills as well as expanding social relationships are two reasons that motivate students to work part-time It can be understood simply because most corporations and companies, large or small, want to recruit people with basic skills and knowledge of majors and lives such as soft skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability, and ability to handle situations Besides gaining experience from jobs while studying, it will also help students quickly adapt to work Moreover, students also want to experience new things and have a beautiful CV when working part-time, which also helps students improve the above-mentioned things and prepare for the career in the future Overall most of the reasons that affect people to take part-time jobs are to prepare for the job that they want in the future 5.2 Common type of part-time job among students To answer the question that students often choose which job to work part-time, waiters are most interested in Next are professions such as sales, shop assistant, and teaching assistant It is easy to understand because the above jobs can be applied for simply, and interact with a lot of people from different backgrounds Not only that, students can have experiences and lessons learned from their interactions with customers Working as a waiter also helps students to better understand the culture of each region, improving comprehension skills 14 The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen With the development of the Internet in general and social networks in particular, there are many online stores with a lot of gadgets and clothes suitable for today's youth With increasing demand combined with more and more people preferring shopping online and quick payment methods on applications, all the above reasons explain why selling online is also one of the jobs that young people are interested in Students often choose jobs in clothing stores such as sales assistants or English centers or tutoring 1vs1 as tutors or can also work as interpreters, translators for companies or big events in conjunction with foreign Apart from all the above, students also want to try careers such as shipper, youtuber, tiktoker or streamer The reason for this is that people are shopping online more, there is a large amount of goods that need to be delivered to customers and social networking sites are growing so many young people want to experience them 5.3 Most concerning factors when choosing part-time jobs Students when working part-time not only pay attention to what the job they do, but also pay attention to many other conditions surrounding the job they choose Typical working time This is a condition that has been predicted because among the reasons students not work part-time, it is due to lack of time accounting for 37% And because students are still in school, paying attention to working time from the beginning will help students be proactive in arranging class schedules as well as other after-hours activities Then you will be able to have your own time to focus on your studies and not be affected Not only that, there are a lot of jobs that require working in the evening and even overnight work like in Circle K And that also makes students concerned about their own safety Moreover, students work part-time because they want to earn extra income, so salary conditions are indispensable According to figure 6, we can see that students expect to receive salaries from 1-3 million per month and 3-5 million per month Some people expect to receive a salary of over million and a few feel that less than million is too good for them Based on figure 5, it can be seen that the working environment and remunerations and the facilities are what students are interested in after the above two 15 The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen mentions The work environment can affect work spirit and productivity Not only that but the relationship between colleagues is also interesting to many students It can be seen that these things can all affect employees as good facilities will help employees complete work quickly Remunerations will help motivate employees to work and help the company retain talent and attract candidates And the relationship between everyone in the company, if everyone is united, attached, and has a collective spirit, will help employees work well, promote their full potential and complete the job together Recommendations Based on the above discussion, some of the following recommendations should be taken into consideration Nowadays, because more and more students have the desire to work a part-time job that is suitable for them, both to earn extra income as well as to help gain more experience while still in university And employers are also becoming more and more interested in recruiting students Hence, the student has more opportunities in finding a job However, most of the students have difficulty in arranging the study schedule with part-time work Because for students, learning is still a top priority Therefore, you must balance between work and study to avoid adverse effects on the study Besides, students who have not worked part-time can find jobs that are suitable for their ability and time For freshmen who have less experience, they can choose jobs that not require too high a requirement or require experience such as shop assistant, teaching assistant, tutor or something Not only that, if you intend to work part-time, you need to pay attention to the working environment to avoid jobs with a complicated and unsafe working environment for students Need to find out clearly about the address, origin of the company or can ask friends, relatives or people who have worked there before deciding to that job As mentioned at the beginning, due to still going to school, it can be a bit difficult to arrange the schedule Therefore, you can choose to work in shifts or you can be flexible in terms of working time 16 The trend of choosing part-time jobs of ISBA freshmen Conclusion In conclusion, I hope the results of this study will help people better understand the trend of choosing part-time jobs among ISBA freshmen Through data on factors will help students limit the dangerous problems that may occur when deciding to a certain job People can also know more about the professions that students will choose when working part-time In addition, the study also points out the effects, causes, and things students should pay attention to when choosing a part-time job
