test of trial pile shall be made and submitted separately (1) Mobilization and Preparation Prior to commencing the drilling work, all equipment and worker shall be inspected according to Guide Form No BBMMNL with attendance of the Engineer Any obstacles at the surface or the sub-surface of the ground are to be taken out by Excavator or other drilling equipment Underground water level shall be measured before piling work by temporary well or drilled hole, which shall be made temporary with adequate depth to investigate underground water If necessary, embankment shall be applied to keep that the execution area of piling works is more than 2.0m above underground water level The description of bored pile work on each structure group is as followings Flyover Bridge : TL402,TL301, TL302B, rebar cage and tremie pipe finished the contractor shall verify specification of bentonite and sediment at the bored hole If sediment is less than 5cm and sand content is less than 6%, concrete will be carried out If failed, the bored hole have to clean again There are two methods for cleanliness Each can be chosen depending on actual conditions a) Cleaning of the bored hole by slime pump This method uses slime pump to clean the bored-hole by pumping bentonite slurry via tremie pipe from bottom of the bored-hole New bentonite shall be supplied from top of bored-hole This new bentonite shall replace with old bentonite and push sediments out (replacing of bentonite and cleaning of the bored hole from down to up) Old bentonite and sediment shall be disposed to temporary barrels and then to the tank and treated by sand filter rigs for the Revision A2, Date: 3rd of Aug 2009 20 Method Statement for Cast-in-place Concrete Pile POS-MS-CIPCP-A2-EN Noi Bai-Lao Cai Highway Project Package A1: Km 0-080 ~Km 26+700 purpose of re-using Checking of sedimentation thickness at the bottom of the bored-hole as well as other properties of bentonite at bottom of bored-hole If OK The cleanliness finished b) Cleaning of bored hole by air-lift The tremie pipe and air- conducting pipe shall be laid to bottom of bore-hole Compressed air shall be conducted into air-conducting pipe and blown at the bottom of pipe Due to compressed air, bentonite and sediment at bottom of bore-hole shall be push out via the tremie pipe It had better move tremie pipe around in order to increase the efficiency of the cleaning Owing to withdraw of betonite and thus causing the deficiency of betonite It is therefore required to supplement betonite immediately to the bored hole so as to prevent bore-wall collapsing Old bentonite that pushed out of the bored-hole shall be disposed to the barrels and then to the tank and to sand filtering rigs for the re-use (11) Casting Under Water Concrete Prior to placing concrete, sample of bentonite liquid shall be taken from the hole at different depth (bottom, middle and top of bored hole) to confirm the characteristics of fluid If bentonite liquid is satisfactory to criteria that is stated in the above (5), the concrete work shall be started Prior to placing concrete, the concrete shall be checked by engineer and the installation of the ultra-sonic pipes will be checked The interval between 2nd cleaning and concreting is not more than hour Concrete shall be delivered and supplied by mixer truck from Batching plant and discharged directly to head hopper of tremie pipe in one continuous operation from tip to cut-off elevation and will be carried out in such a manner as to avoid segregation A sliding Plunger will be set within the tremie tube to prevent direct contact between the first charge of concrete and the water or Bentonite Techniques for pouring concrete are conducted in order to ensure concrete pouring continuously without interruption, to avoid concrete segregation Generally, the toe of tremie pipe shall be kept penetrated into concrete more than m for all the time during casting concrete For example, when the penetration of tremie pipe in the concrete become more than 5.0m following the raising up of concrete top, the tremie pipe will be lifted up by 3.0m and piece of tremie pipe (l=3.0m) will be cut The top level of poured concrete shall be confirmed by Revision A2, Date: 3rd of Aug 2009 21 Noi Bai-Lao Cai Highway Project Package A1: Km 0-080 ~Km 26+700 Method Statement for Cast-in-place Concrete Pile POS-MS-CIPCP-A2-EN measuring tape prior to cutting tremie pipe The tables of “Tremie toe level control” are attached as Inspection Sheet I-13 in Appendix-4 for the guideline of controlling the penetration of tremie pipe Pouring concrete will be completed when the top of concrete has reached to the specified height The top of concrete is contaminated by bentonite liquid Therefore, surplus concrete shall be cast to ensure quality of concrete on the body of designed pile The height of surplus concrete is proposed to be more than one diameter of pile from cut-off level basically Especially for the pile of diameter 1.0 m and the pile which head is located in the temporary casing pipe, the top of concrete after removal of temporary casing pipe shall be kept to be 150cm above from cut-off level in consideration of settlement of concrete after removal of casing pipe and other affect of removal of casing pipe Therefore before removal of temporary casing pipe, the height of surplus concrete is proposed to be 2.0m from cut-off level or to be overflowed equivalent volume from casing top depending on the site condition However this may be adjusted by instruction of the Engineer in consideration of site condition The in-situ testing for delivered concrete such as slump and temperature shall be carried out for each delivery truck Allowable maximum slump of concrete for bored pile is 200mm Sampling for compressive test shall be carried out in accordance with General Specifications S06100 The detail is described in Inspection and Testing Plan attached in Appendix-3 In case actual volume of casing concrete from bottom of pile to cut-off level is less than concrete volume calculated by the designed dimensions of bored pile, immediately report by the Contractor is required within one day to clarify the reason and propose countermeasures to get the Engineer’s approval before commencing construction of next pile (12) Removal of Casing Pipe After completion of casting concrete from 15 to 20 minutes, casing pipe shall be removed straightly and gradually by crane or vibration hammer Principally, after removal of casing pipe from 2~3 hours, bored hole shall be backfilled by excavated soil In case that backfilling is delayed with some reason, bored hole shall be covered by steel plate or marked by stakes and rope/ wire to prevent the accident such as falling down to hole Revision A2, Date: 3rd of Aug 2009 22 Method Statement for Cast-in-place Concrete Pile POS-MS-CIPCP-A2-EN Noi Bai-Lao Cai Highway Project Package A1: Km 0-080 ~Km 26+700 Concrete Back filling Removal of the temporary casing *Other Particular Description  Typical layout and Sequence of bored piling work in abutment and pier is shown on Figure 7.1 for reference  It is
