WEST HIGHWAY AND WATER ENVIRONMENT PROJECT MANAGEMENT UNIT OF HO CHI MINH CITY HO CHI MINH CITY WATER ENVIRONMENT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT PACKAGE D - CONVEYANCE SEWER CONSTRUCTION AND EXISTING COMBINED SEWER IMPROVEMENT MS-002 SOIL INVESTIGATION SHIMIZU CORPORATION a) Set-up drill machine auger at desired hole location and remove soil for examination b) Drilling auger is propelled downwards hydraulically while rotating to achieve the desired depth c) The drilling rods are extended as necessary The rods to be used are 42 mm in diameter and are supplied in three differing lengths (1.5m, 2.2m and 4.5m) d) The drilling auger is withdrawn from the hole and soil samples are taken for examination e) Water is continuously circulating through the pump during boring works If necessary, bentonite may also be added to aid borehole stability f) Bentonite and other waste materials resulting from the works will be disposed of accordingly and in accordance with the Environmental Management Plan The following picture illustrates a typical set-up in the Conveyance Sewer Area: The picture on page hereinafter illustrates a typical set-up for the Existing Combined Sewer Improvement area (i.e within the City): Page of 16 EAST -
