(1)Week: 29 Period: 58 Date of preparing: 25/03/ 2013 Date of teaching: 27/03/ 2013 UNIT 9: NATURAL DIASTERS Lesson 2: SPEAK AND LISTEN I OBJECTIVES: Educational aims: We should prepare carefully for a typhoon or any natural disasters which are unexpected Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to practice speaking about what to prepare for a typhoon, listen for details to complete a table about how to live with earthquake and practice relative pronouns II PREPARATIONS: book, pictures, cassette tape III PROCEDURES: Teacher’s activities Warm – up (5’) - Have Ss name some natural disasters earthquake typhoon drought Volcano Students’ activities - Name some natural disasters Natural disasters food snow Pre - speaking (10’) - Have Ss answer some eliciting questions What you think about these natural disasters? What should we prepare for a typhoon? - Introduce some new words + leak (n) + latch (n) + ladder (n) + available (adj) + damage (v) - Have Ss answer the question: “ Can you predict what happen if there is a typhoon?” - Suggested ideas: Bigs trees may fall down There may be a power cut There must be strong wind blowing - Note : Must / may / will + bare -infinitive While - speaking (13’) - Have Ss check their own preparation for a typhoon and explain - Answer question - Listen and write - Answer the questions - Write down - Work in pair (2) - Give a model A: What you prepare for typhoon? B: I’ll buy canned food A: Why you need to buy food? B: Because the market will be closed and no food will be available Post - speaking (15’) - Introduce some new words - Write down + block (v) + roller (n) + strike – struck (v) + snout (n) + hurricane (n) + cyclone (n) + eruption (n) - Have Ss listen to the tape and check their prediction - Listen to the tape and check - Call Ss to get feedback - Compare with their partner  Answer key: bottom shelf of your bookshelves fridge washing machine mirrors window inside/outside under a strong table/doorway corner of a room Homework (2’) - Write a paragraph about what they have done to to Take note prepare for a typhoon - Prepare next lesson: Unit 9: Read/ p.78 IV COMMENTS: _  (3)
