Installation Procedures Introduction This document defines the procedures for installing products contained in the KRONE Certified Cabling System The Installation Procedures are part of a series of documents supporting the design, installation, and use of the KRONE Certified Cabling System KRONE reserves the right, without notice, to change its products as progress in engineering or manufacturing methods or other circumstances may warrant If you have questions on the content or intent of this document, please call the Tech Support Line at 800-775-5766 KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 IP-1 Installation Procedures 8-Pair HighBandTM and Series Frame Mount (Wall or EIA Rack) STEP 1: Mounting Frame Incoming Cables Secure Type 105 mounting bracket to mounting frame using rivets provided Install rubber grommets STEP 2: Route cables through grommet holes and secure as required STEP 3: Beginning at bottom of mounting bracket, cut cables 18" from front edge of mounting bracket, strip back 6" of sheath, and split pairs back 4½" Type 105 Mounting Bracket IP-2 KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Installation Procedures 8-Pair HighBand and 10-Pair Series Rod Mount Using Universal Mounting System (UMS) (Using EIA Rack or Wall) STEP 1: Assemble the UMS brackets by sliding the two halves all the way together Repeat for all brackets STEP 2: Secure UMS Backboard to rack Install two top screws first, then hang the backboard and install remaining screws STEP 3: Secure UMS Brackets to backboard per diagrams for the desired layout printed on the backboard Use provided rivets to attach STEP 4: Secure included jumper rings using rivets provided or install separate large jumper ring assembly using screws provided STEP 5: Pull Cables through center hole of bracket and strip back sheath as indicated KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 IP-3 Installation Procedures 8-Pair HighBand and 10 Pair Series Rod Mount Using UMS (Wall Mount) STEP 1: Assemble the UMS brackets by sliding the two halves all the way together Repeat for all brackets STEP 2: Attach first (top left) UMS to plywood backboard with top left screw Do no tighten screw down all the way Using a level, adjust bracket and secure top left screw all the way Repeat for the top right screw Secure remaining two screws at bottom STEP 3: Using interlocking tabs, secure next bracket or wire manager, and secure with four screws Continue until all brackets and wire managers are secured STEP 4: Install wire management rings using rivets provided STEP 5: Route cables from top or bottom Dress and strip as shown (Cables can be routed through center bracket hole if using a false wall.) Secure slack loop bundles using tie wraps to tabs on inside of UMS bracket IP-4 KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Installation Procedures 8-Pair HighBandTM and Series Termination Block Direct Wall Mount Incoming Cables STEP 1: Top Wall Mount Adapter Secure bottom mounting adapter (without jumper rings) level to backboard STEP 2: Snap the Type 105 mounting bracket into the bottom mounting adapter (rubber grommets optional) STEP 3: Type 105 Mounting Bracket Snap top mounting adapter (includes jumper rings) onto mounting Bracket and secure to backboard STEP 4: Route cables from above or below mounting bracket and secure as required STEP 5: Beginning at edge of mounting bracket, cut cables 18" from front edge of mounting bracket, strip back 6" of sheath, and split pairs back 4½" Bottom Wall Mount Adapter KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 IP-5 Installation Procedures 8-Pair HighBandTM Block Termination Procedures (Wall or EIA Rack) HighBand Termination Block STEP 1: Holding block in hand Dress pairs through wire guides and across contact slots (maintain twist up to point of connection) Maintain sheath up to back of block Repeat for second cable Type 105 Mounting Bracket STEP 2: Snap block onto mounting bracket and terminate conductors with KRONE tool UMS KRONE Tool STEP 3: Flare wires with thumb from the center of both cables to the outside of the block This will flatten the arc in the cables so there is no chance of skinning the pairs while installing block on the bracket IP-6 KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Installation Procedures 8-Pair HighBandTM Block Termination Procedures (Wall or EIA Rack) (Cont.) STEP 2: Attach UMS to plywood backboard with top left screw Do not tighten screw down all the way Using a level, adjust the bracket and secure top left screw all the way down Repeat for top right screw STEP 3: Using interlocking tabs, secure next bracket or wire manager and secure with four (4) screws Continue until all brackets and or wire manages are secured STEP 4: Install wire management rings using the rivets provided STEP 5: Snap FT base in position you wish to terminate, route cables from top or bottom and secure with tie-wraps to tabs inside mounting bracket STEP 6: Bundle six (6) 4-pair cables or one 25-Pair cable and route through wire management ring on back of 25-Pair FT base STEP 7: For each cable in its relative position, cut cable 18" from front of base and remove the 6" of sheath Separate pairs and split pairs approximately 4.5" back IP-10 KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Installation Procedures 50-Pair Termination Block Rack/Wall Mount STEP 1: Secure 89 D bracket to wall STEP 2: Dress Cable through bracket and center of block and snap block into place STEP 3: Cut cables 12" from front edge of 50-Pair termination block, then strip back 6" of sheath to front edge of 50-pair termination block and split pairs back 4½" IP-26 KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Installation Procedures 50-Pair Block Termination Procedure STEP 1: 50-Pair Termination Block Dress pairs through contact openings and across contact face (maintain twist up to point of the contact opening) Maintain sheath up to back of the block Repeat for second cable STEP 2: Terminate conductors with KRONE tool KRONE Tool When wiring 50-Pair Blocks with 4-pair station cable, it is recommended that you skip one pair between each four pairs for patching purposes In a jumpered environment, terminate all 25 pairs on each side KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 STEP 3: Repeat steps and for remaining modules IP-27 Installation Procedures Six Port Surface Mount Box STEP 1: STEP 2: Position modular jack (KRONE's Lead Frame In-Line jack is not compatible with this product) with the catch toward the bottom of the box and the nose of the jack pointing down Insert the catch into the slotted opening, while sliding the jack forward until the trailing edge of the jack snaps in behind the retaining wall Cable entrance is provided via an opening in the base as well as through three knockouts in the cover sides for raceway entrance Loop cables around the built-in cable guides and use a tie wrap to secure cables over the top of guide Cover Modular Jack Screw Catch STEP 3: Base IP-28 Mount the box to the appropriate location by applying hook and loop fasteners (provided) to the three recessed areas on the back of the box base, or mount with screws through the two openings KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Installation Procedures Six Port Surface Mount Box (Cont.) STEP 4: Clear Window ID Tab Locate the knockouts which need to be removed and "snip" the edges with a pair of lineman cutters or scissors Gently bend and pull the piece along the recess in the cover while holding the plastic between the openings steady Repeat this process for each port Snap the cover into place STEP 5: Place the station identification label in the opening and install the clear window Snap in reversible ID tabs (for data and voice) STEP 6: To regain access to the interior of the box, depress the finger tabs on the sides of the box, indicated by the arrows KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 IP-29 Installation Procedures KRONE Station Outlet Incoming Cables STEP 1: Route 12" of cable out of the conduit pipe Strip back 4" of sheath and strip pairs back 3¼" Modular Jack 12.00" KRONE Tool STEP 2: Route conductors through center of jack and dress conductors through contact slots (maintain twist up to point of contact opening) Sheath should butt up against back of jack STEP 3: Terminate conductors with KRONE tool STEP 4: Position the jack with the latch toward the top and place the bottom lip into the grove in the faceplate opening Lift the jack forward until the top latch snaps into place KRONE Modular Faceplate IP-30 KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Installation Procedures KRONE Station Outlet (Cont.) STEP 5: Twist faceplate around 360° coiling slack of cable into wallmount box STEP 6: Screw faceplate to the wall with screws provided Insert identification tabs and station labels Screws Station Labels ID Tabs KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 IP-31 Installation Procedures Multimedia Box Preparing the Box Remove lid: Open the lid covering the port identification area Tilt the lid upward to about a 45 degree angle and pull forward to remove (See Figure 1) Separate top cover from the base: Figure Removing the Lid To gain access to the inside of the Mulimedia Box, squeeze the locking tabs together (see Figure 2) and pull up and back to remove the cover Remove knockout, if desired: Figure Removing the cover The access hole in the back of the Multimedia Box provides ample cable access when the box is mounted to a standard wall box If the box is to be mounted to a solid surface and attached to a raceway, one or more of the side knockouts may have to be removed To remove a knockout: Select the appropriate size and location to match your raceway Using a utility knife, cut down the scored area as far as possible on both sides of the knockout Bend the knockout back and forth on the bottom score until it breaks free (see Figure 3) Figure Removing Knockout, if necessary IP-32 KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Installation Procedures Multimedia Box Mounting Surface Mounting: The Multimedia Box may be mounted to any flat surface using screws through any of the holes provided Figure shows mounting holes Wall Box Mounting: The Multimedia Box may be mounted to either a single-gang or dual-gang standard NEMA wall box using the #632 screws supplied Figure Mounting Holes Magnets Although typically mounted vertically, the Multimedia Box may be mounted in a horizontal position, if desired European Box Mounting: Optionally, the Multimedia Box may be mounted to 80mm, 84mm or 88mm European wall boxes Optional Mounting with Magnets: Optional magnets may be ordered to mount the Multimedia Box to a metal surface Insert the magnets as shown in Figure Figure Inserting Optional Magnets KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 A second method of magnetic mounting is to attach self-adhesive magnetic strips to the back of the box IP-33 Installation Procedures Multimedia Box Routing Cable and Adding Bezels Routing Cable: Copper and/or fiber cable may be pulled into the box at this time The open design of the Multimedia Box allows cable to be routed from many directions and angles Be careful to observe minimum bend radius on all types of cable Self-feeding cable tie off points are available in front of each of the raceway openings Figure Cable Ties and Guides Note that the center spool in the base of the Multimedia Box meets the TIA/ EIA-568-A specifications for fiber storage Add Selected Bezel: Each of the openings at the front of the Multimedia Box will accept one of the numerous styles of bezels The bezels are designed so they can only be inserted one way into the opening, providing maximum adherence to the minimum bend radius Figure Terminate Cables and Insert Bezels IP-34 Note: Copper cables must be terminated to individual jacks and the jacks inserted into the bezel before the bezel is inserted in the opening KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Installation Procedures Port All Fit Box with screws through the two standard mounting holes Introduction KRONE’s Port All-Fit Box accepts a wide range of snap in jacks, or connector modules (KRONE's Lead Frame In-Line jack is not compatible), and is suited for installation in any type of office environment: modular furniture, surface mount, or wall box Jack Installation Position the modular connector with the catch toward the bottom of the box, and the nose of the connector pointing down Insert the catch into the “U” shaped opening, while sliding the connector forward until the trailing edge of the jack snaps in behind the retaining wall (see Figure 3) Cable entrance is provided via an opening in the base, as well as knockouts on the sides of the cover and base These knockouts also except several sizes of raceway Follow the jack instructions for proper termination Be sure to pull cable through base before terminating jacks Box Installation To install the box in a modular furniture opening, insert the mounting slides by squeezing the vertical posts and inserting the foot through opening at the end of each track Squeeze on the Base Knockout Figure Figure slide posts, adjust, and release to lock the box into place (see Figure 1) To surface mount the box, apply the provided hook and loop fasteners to the back of the box base, or mount KRONE Installation & Testing Procedures MK023-01 Printed in USA 1/98 Figure IP-35 Installation Procedures Port All Fit Box (Cont.)
