Roles and Responsibilities Roles and Responsibilities in a Principle Based Environment • As an employee - In addition to having access to tools and the thinking behind policy, we have the responsibility to involve our immediate manager when we are uncertain of how the decision, interpretation, explanation or implementation fits the intent of the policy. • As a manager of others - We have the final responsibility and accountability for Principle Based Decision Making/Principle Based Policy, interpretation, explanation, and implementation. This includes the responsibility to build consensus with key resources (e.g. HR, Legal etc.), when there is a risk to the Company due to the situation, or differing interpretations of policy. When issues arise, and agreement cannot be achieved, we have the responsibility of addressing the issue with our immediate manager and key resources. HR's role in Principle Based Policy changes too. HR becomes a resource; and as technical experts, will play the role of advisor and coach to employees. In addition, HR is also part of the consensus building process, when there is a situation in which the Company is at risk.
