Aims: To help the students know how to write and what to write in a letter to their family. Objectives: By the end of the lesson the students will be able to write a letter to their family. Skills: writing, speaking

I. WARMER: Pelmanism:

20’ II. PRE-WRITING:

1. Remind students about a format of a personal letter by asking some questions:

Format of a letter:

Heading: Writer’s address and date

Opening: Hi; Dear……….Body of the letter: arrive and

return time, who met, places visited, food eaten……

Closing: your friend/ regard/ love……

Questions:

a. How many parts are there in writing a letter? What are they?

b. In heading, what you write? c. In opening, what you write? d. In body of the letter, what you

write?

e. In closing, what you write? 2. Set the scene

Imagine you are going to write a letter to your relatives or friends in another part of Viet Nam

3. Questionnaire :

- Shows the students the format of a letter

- Gives guiding questions

- Take notes

- Answer the questions that help the students remember what to in each part of a letter Period:

 Students can answers the questions in pair or group through speaking

III. WHILE- WRITING: Write it up

Each student writes a letter to their family, using the information in the questionnaire and following the format and the outline of the letter P11

- Gives time for writing - Use the answers of the above questions to write

IV. POST- WRITING:

- Teacher collects and marks the letter - Teacher gives feedback or correction in

the next class

- Gets the writing papers and gives feedback

- Listen to the teacher’s feedback and take notes

V. HOMEWORK:

- Learn the lesson carefully - Review the simple past tense

- Gives home assignment

- Take notes
