Scenarios & Labs Click here to find additional training resources. Here you can find links that will be very useful during your time on the routers. Lab Challenges; are meant to test your ability to solve configurations problems with little or no guidance. You should be working on these before attempting Cisco's CCIE® lab Instructional Labs; we have just started adding these introductory level labs These will be for beginners and will offer step-by-step instructions to help you get familiar with Cisco routers and networking Sample Configs; will give you standard router configurations that you can cut and paste to the routers to form; Frame Relay Switches, or the config used by the Term_Srv in the rack The study aids you will find here are of some value without equipment. But, you really should look at these labs and scenarios as assignments to be completed on some real Cisco® equipment. You need to get used to using the "show", "debug" and other command line tools to figure out why your configuration does not work. If this site had 200 scenarios and 200 Sample Labs you would still find things on Cisco's CCIE® lab test, that you have not worked with before (or you worked with it so long ago that you forgot it!) Good Luck!!! http://www.fatkid.com/html/scenarios___labs.html [5/6/2001 3:22:11 PM] FATKID.COM The lowest priced training assistance for Cisco® products you can find, period. We are a full featured site with practice questions, labs and scenarios and even equipment to practice on (OK, you have to pay to access the equipment) We even have some cool stuff for sale in our merchandise section. Stop in and spend a while We are back!!! Well, it took some time to find a new web hosting company, but hopefully the research will payoff this time and things will work out better. We picked up a bunch of new features, including SSL, so we can finally finish the automation process, and you can issue real-time requests. The new host will address serveral other limitations that we have had with cgi scripts. We are working on several things to get you access to more study materials. Look for an announcement soon for a partnership with another company that is publishing some real high quality, complete labs. We are also starting to work with a few others to develop more labs to post right hear for free! (is there any other way to post labs?) We always appreciate feed-back so don't be shy about dropping us a line. Thanks for staying with us. It's a 2620, which we hope to soon have voice installed in. We also changed from three 6 hour slots a day, to four 5.5 hour slots per day. We hope this works better with people's schedules (To those that have been asking, sorry it took so long). Adding the fourth slot each day should allow us to keep prices the same, even with the extra router, (and voice once we get it installed) We also upgraded the remote reboot power strip so that you can now reboot any router (except the Term_Srv router), the Catalyst switch, and now the ISDN simulator as well!! (on two occasions it started acting a little odd, but a quick reboot fixed the problem). We also upgraded the Term_Srv router from a 2509 to 2511. This just gives us more options as we add more equipement later on. We are in the midst of updating the look of the site also. The labs will now all use frames, so you can jump from the lab, to the hints, to the diagram, to the solution a bit easier. I've worked in a few edits to the labs also, but I still have quite a few to go. I've been trying to come up with a lab of the month to get that part of the site rolling. Between all the job switches (I'm on my third one this year!!) lately and finding time for my wife and young son, it's hard finding time, but I'll keep working on it. I'm finally getting somewhere with the automation stuff, but it's likely to be a while longer before you can enter credit card information on the web site. (After learning Perl, I'm hoping SSL will be easy!!) 5-29-00 Sorry I've been away soon long. In the last two months I've logged over 30,000 fequent flyer miles!! Needless to say it's been hecktic. This have settled down a little bit so I finally had time to post all the updates and revisions that I've been promissing for so long now. The big news is we are adding voice. We are in the process of aquiring equipment right now. We will be adding a new 2620 router to the rack with voice ports. You can see a diagram of what the rack will look like by clicking here. The new 2620 router will also add ISL and 802.1q trunking capabilities to the rack. We are finally able to accept credit cards!! It took a lot longer than I hoped, but you can now call in, or Email your credit card number to us to pay for time on the rack. We are accepting VISA, MC and American Express! We hope to have the site automated soon so that you can enter everything in a secure fassion right on the web site. Our appologies to those of you that have been experiencing problems with the site. The ISP swore to us today, that they have the problem fixed and everything should be working smoothly now. You may have noticed that I finally passed the CCIE myself. I have to say that I could not have done it with the help of all the subscribers to GroupStudy.com. If you are serious about the test, get signed up for one of their E- mail lists. Paul has put together an excellent service that no CCIE candidate should be without. You can find them at http://www.groupstudy.com. Lastly we have spent a great deal of time reveiwing all the lab challenges, and adding a few new challenging ones, including a couple of very good redistribution labs. Thanks to all those who sent in feedback on the labs, sorry it took so long to get them reposted. You will notice that we have a slightly new numbering scheme for all the labs. This was developed to encompass about 200 labs that we eventually hope to have posted. Whew! that's a lot of updates. I will try to get back in gear about updating the site more often. Thanks for stoppin in!! 4-8-00 Hello again! Sorry I have not been posting a lot of new stuff on the web site. There has been a great deal going on lately. We finally have our credit card account set up!!! I'm still trying to get the web site updated so that http://www.fatkid.com/html/news.html (1 of 2) [5/6/2001 3:22:17 PM] News everything is automatic. If you like, you can Email or call in with your credit card number now though. Look for the shopping cart software to be set up in about a month (I hope!!) I've also been busy redoing some of the labs and adding a few new ones. I'm redoing the whole lab structure so that we start to have something like a curiculum. I have about four new labs, and hope to add another four to six by the time we roll out the new format around the end of the month. Things have really been picking up, and it's time to start thinking about additions. We are taking a poll to see what you would rather see on the site. We can add voice, to the existing rack, or add another rack. I'm leaning towards adding voice, but I need some feedback from all of you. Still trying to work the numbers if we add voice but I don't think it will affect the price more than $10.00/slot (if at all!) Lastly what version of software do we need to keep on the rack. 11.3 was choosen as a compromise, but since it is never going to go into GD (general deployment) it will probably never show up on the lab. Should we have 11.2, 11.3 or 12.0 on the routers by default. Now that 12.0 is in GD it is more likely to show up, but the limitations of 11.2 make for some arduous tasks on the test. Please tell us what you think. Send us your option to dwsmall@fatkid.com !! We need your input !! Have you thought about buying a time slot but decided against it because you prefer to use a credit card? We have discussed attempting to completely automate the system, but it would take a great deal of effort. What's your opinion Drop us a line and let us know what you think of the site. Thanks for stopping in. I have tried to make these questions pertinent to the subject matter. Some of these questions may appear in similar form on the actual test but I have tried to present questions that evaluate your readiness to take the written and practical tests. Questions appearing here that duplicate those on any of Cisco's certification test, is entirely coincidental. A high score on these practice questions indicates a high level of knowledge of networking and Cisco® hardware in general. This may not translate into a high score on the written or practical tests. If you find problems with my questions please let me know. The reason for starting this site was a high level of frustration with other sources of practice questions that were, irrelevant, absurd or just plain wrong. (Arghhhh!!!) Also, if you have ideas for other questions please submit them. I don't pay for questions that others offer, but like the ones that I add, they all help us in our efforts. Please don't submit questions directly off of the exam. If I post questions that are verbatim off of the exam, Cisco® will shut us down or change the test, both would be bad. http://www.fatkid.com/html/questions.html [5/6/2001 3:22:20 PM] Select a link The Rack Unfortunately we do not offer 7x24 tech support, but if you have problems accessing the equipment you can send us an alpha page. We will usually get back to you in about 15 minutes. If you experience problems while using the equipment, and it is the fault of the equipment or Fatkid.com, you will get a replacement slot. Welcome to the rack at Fatkid.com The rack contains five Cisco routers, a Catalyst 2901 Switch (with the latest 4.x Crescendo operating system), an ISDN simulator, remote power control and the latest 11.2 and 12.0 IOS enterprise feature set, with IPSEC There has been some confusion about the switch in the rack. This is not a 2900XL series switch. The 2901 is a sibling to the 5000, and ours has been upgraded with the latest 4.x image for a 5000 series switch (the same exact file!). The only difference between the 2901 and the 5002 is the number of ports (14 versus 24) . The rack is the only thing on Fatkid.com that is not free. (Sorry but the equipment was not cheap, as you know.) Check out the Pricing page for information about pricing and how to request a time slot. The diagrams on this page show the physical arrangement of the equipment and the wiring schematic. Since you do not have physical access to the routers I have tried to wire the routers in the most comprehensive way possible. You will never use all wired connections on every router for a given configuration. Just activate the connections you need and away you go. A Personal Recommendation What ever you do, make sure you spend some time on this rack or a similar set of equipment before you attempt the test. If you are like me, you had to fly to a test center, get a hotel room, and then pay $1000.00 for the test. After all my receipts were in, it cost over $2000.00 to take the test. The best way to keep cool on the test is to have the hours in on the routers. Time management is part of the CCIE lab. You need to be adept at using short cuts on the command lines. Also being very familiar with the command lines will increase your confidence level and better your performance on the lab. Study Tip Have a study party. Get 4 or 5 people together that are studying for the lab, buy a time slot on the rack, and have every one configure one of the routers. Get a different person to lead the group each time. The lead person chooses which lab you will work on, but does not work on the routers. Instead he/she explains each configuration step to the rest of the group as they work on the lab. Since you have several people on the equipment at once it only ends up costing $15.00 or $20.00 each and you can buy a couple of pizzas for the group with any extra money. The Advanced OSPF lab was actually designed for a group study effort, because each of the routers has about the same amount of work to be done. You will need to set up some where that has at least 4 different PCs and Internet access for all four, but we have done it several times locally and it works great !! http://www.fatkid.com/html/the_rack.html (1 of 2) [5/6/2001 3:22:23 PM] The Rack If you have any feed back on ways to improve the rack please let me know. We are working on adding ISL and Voice. Stay tuned. http://www.fatkid.com/html/the_rack.html (2 of 2) [5/6/2001 3:22:23 PM] Other Stuff FEEDBACK If you have any suggestions for us please drop us a line.
