CASE STUDY The DSX Solution. Designed with value in mind. ADC’s DSX products are designed with features that will improve your company's profitability over alternative DDF technologies. When comparing the DSX and DDF solutions, it is important to assess the total costs of the equipment over the life of the product. In the graph below, the initial purchase price of the DDF solution is significantly less than DSX. However, over the life of the product, the DSX is the lower cost solution. To accurately assess the total costs of owning equipment, the following must be evaluated: initial capital investment, operation and maintenance costs, and customer revenue lost during maintenance activities. This case study shows how the DSX improved a carrier's operation and helped them become more competitive and more profitable. TOTAL COST PROD UCT LIFE ADC DSX Solution DDF Solution Your decision is about much more than buying equipment. It's about improving your company's profitability. This template is the basis of the Total Cost Model and outlines the areas that are used to evaluate the DSX against alternative DDF technologies. CASE STUDY Telecommunications service providers face a fiercely competitive market. Issues and questions surface regarding expansion, network flexibility, new service deployment, improved operations and cost reductions. This competitive market places heavy demands upon service providers. The key to success is a seamless network migration that provides customers with transparent service evolution. That begins with ADC's Digital Signal Cross-Connect (DSX) Solutions. Let's examine one example of how DSX can aid network evolution and help service providers remain competitive. A service provider is planning several new central offices and wants to increase network flexibility, improve operations, and reduce costs to meet the demands of the customer. They have recently issued an RFQ/RFP for various equipment, including a DDF, for these new offices. The network services approximately 3,000,000 subscribers. Key subscribers include large financial institutions that will not tolerate service outages, day or night. The current DDF consists of a cross- connect solution using soldering to wire-wrap terminal blocks. This solution has a number of limitations: • No simple means of accessing the circuit for testing or monitoring purposes. Instead, the wires must be disconnected from the terminal blocks interrupting the service in order to conduct testing. • No patching capabilities for temporary rerouting of the circuit. Instead circuits must be re-jumpered to an alternate path (causing service interruption) and then re-jumpered back to the original path (causing service interruption again). • Limited cable management. All cross- connect circuits must be manually traced to find the corresponding circuit. The above limitations have caused the following conditions: • Increased operating and maintenance costs due to labor intensive activities • Unnecessary circuit downtime impacting subscribers and reducing revenues • Lower reliability and quality of service Network Element Solder Termination (No Circuit Access) Wire-Wrap CENTRAL OFFICE Network Element DDF DDF Current Configuration Case Study The Existing Network: Limitations with DDF DSX CASE STUDY ADC's DSX solution offers the following benefits: Unparalleled reliability through significantly reduced service outages. Monitor ports on the DSX allow for non-intrusive testing; IN and OUT ports allow for quick and easy access for patching; future upgrades to new equipment can be made without interruption of service. Significantly reduced operating and maintenance expenses. IN, OUT, and Monitor ports allow fast and easy access to circuits for testing, monitoring and patching. No longer will wires have to be disconnected for testing. Unsurpassed cable management Cross-connect circuits are identified via the lighted LEDs (no manual tracing of circuit is needed). Cable rings, skeleton bays, and other accessories ensure effective cable management which will help reduce maintenance costs, facilitate the fast deployment of new services and technologies, and accommodate future growth with minimal impact to ongoing operations. Flexibility through modularity The DSX system gives the flexibility to grow as cards, chassis and bays can be added as needed. As your vehicle for increasing profitability, improving operations and raising customer satisfaction, DSX will: Decrease annual maintenance costs Adopting ADC's DSX solution provides the greatest savings per circuit over the life of the product. Reduce/eliminate lost revenue and lost customers Facing a deregulated market, you’re vulnerable to the competition. Service affecting outages previously tolerated by end-users can now drive them to your competition. ADC’s DSX gives you the competitive advantage by decreasing service outages and helping you maintain your customer base. Improve time to ROI Extraordinary savings allow companies to recover their investment faster than with any other alternative DDF solution. Let us show you how we can improve your company's competitiveness and profitability.
