The Soneplex ® management access point (MAP) chassis adapts and concentrates telemetry byte oriented serial (TBOS) alarm and control signals into simplified network management protocol (SNMP) messages. Equipment formerly monitored by TBOS can now be added to SNMP management systems used by other data or transmission products, eliminating the TBOS overlay network. The MAP enables centralized end-to-end circuit visibility, reduces overall costs of the management network and provides a unified SNMP presentation to the operations personnel. ADC’s Soneplex system is the lowest total cost solution for carriers to grow their T1/E1-based business services. The Soneplex system lowers the cost of T1/E1-based services over copper or fiber, using HDSL or Optical DS2/E2 technology, in a single platform. From operations, mainte- nance and provisioning, the Soneplex system is designed to take costs out of today’s T1/E1 delivery approach, adding profit to your bottom line. FEATURES • Supported by HP™ OpenView NMS or ADC GUI • Ethernet LAN and serial PPP network interface ports • Six subscriber RS-232 ports • Forty-eight alarm contact closure inputs • ANSI/ETSI compliant 1 rack unit chassis • Supports Telnet access to all six subscriber ports The Soneplex System from ADC. The T1/E1 Service Delivery Experts S ONEPLEX ® SNMP M ANAGEMENT A CCESS P OINT 22/98 461 Soneplex ® SNMP MAP The MAP element management system (EMS) software is integrated into the HP OpenView network management system (NMS) and installs quickly. The ADC graphical user interface (GUI) lets a network operator easily and intuitively monitor equipment status, review alarm logs, load pre-existing ADC TBOS definitions, or customize the display appearance. An operator can also configure the MAP to support third-party TBOS equipment by creating and storing additional TBOS bit definition files. The MAP concentrates six subscriber interfaces. Each interface can be configured independently for different TBOS bit definitions. When used with ADC's Soneplex platform, one MAP chassis can monitor 168 T1/E1 circuits. When used with ADC's Fiber Loop Converters, 192 T1/E1 circuits can be viewed. For larger networks, the GUI EMS allows multiple MAPs to be displayed at a single console. The MAP can be connected to the SNMP network in two ways. First, there is an ethernet 10baseT interface for applica- tions that require a direct connection into a local area network (LAN). Second, the MAP has an RS-232C interface that supports point-to-point protocol (PPP) for remote access using a modem. Forty-eight alarm contact closure inputs are provided by the MAP. These inputs create SNMP traps and can be used for site maintenance alarms or to monitor other transmis- sion equipment such as the ADC T1/E1 Dual Fiber Loop Converters. The compact one rack-unit MAP chassis is ANSI/ETSI compliant and requires minimal space and installation time. No modification to currently operating equipment is needed other than connecting the TBOS interface. Therefore, valuable customer service is never interrupted. Additionally, redundant DC inputs provide an added level of security in the event of a power input failure. The MAP’s embedded proxy agent supports Telnet connections to each of the subscriber ports. This enables full remote access to the Soneplex platform craft interface.
