What are the tasks of the teacher in a writing lesson?

The tasks of the teacher in a writing lesson:

– Demonstrating

– Motivating and provoking – Supporting

– Responding – Evaluating

The three-stage Writing Framework

Pre-writing

• Reading (extensively) a passage

• Skimming and/or scanning a passage • Conducting some outside research • Brainstorming

• Listing (in writing – individually)

• Clustering (begin with a key word, then add other words, using free association)

• Discussing a topic or question

• Instructor-initiated questions and probes • Free-writing

II While-writing:

From controlled writing, guided writing to free writing

Controlled writing:

• Gap-fill sentences/paragraphs • Sequencing jumbled words

• Transformation writing • Completing sentences • Sentence combining

Guided writing or freer writing

• Questions and answers

• Writing based on cued words

• Writing based on provided information

Free writing:

• Writing about pictures
