Timing gear assembly
® The timing gears aren't timed at TDC Instead they are timed at 30° - 35° BTDC
2 The pointer on the back of the block will line up with the “O” Set crank at No.1 TDC
marked on the flywheel Count 13 teeth to the left of the “0” and mark it with paint (Ignore the graduations to the right of
the “0")
3 Rotate the flywheel clockwise to the 13th tooth (approx 30°
BTDC)

5 Starting from the chip cut gear, count down to the 11th and 12th teeth Mark them both with paint This is the timing position Make sure the friction gear teeth are aligned with 11th and 12th teeth on the FIP gear If not, move slightly with a
screwdriver Paint the teeth on the friction gear corresponding
with the painted FIP gear teeth

CONTROL IDLE SPEED
CONTROL GLOW PLUG OPERATION
DISABLE A/C IN OVERHEAT STUATION
PROVIDES RPM SIGNAL IN TACHOMETER
Trang 21@ Ne Sensor The Ne sensor detects the rotational speed of the
FIP gear and it sends the information to the PCM as an AC
sine wave (Pin F) This is the engine speed input.(RPM) 96 pulses per 2 engine rotations ie | fae 4 —
The ECT senses the
engine coolant temperature The resistance in the sensor changes with temperature changes of the coolant This

@ A/C request signal Inputs to the PCM (Pin G) the request for
A/C operation
@ Starter signal Used for the glow plug strategy (Pin D)
@ Glow plug voltage The PCM monitors this signal to check the voltage at the glow plugs isn't too high, (Pin |)
Trang 23
These vacuum solenoids are used to contro! the operation of the FICD (Fast Idle Control Device) (Pin C, No 1; Pin P, No 2)
Trang 24@ Glow plug relay The glow plug relay is used to control the
glow plugs (Pin O)
@ Glow plug lamp This is illuminated during pre-heat situation only (Pin M)
@ A/C relay This output controls the compressor operation
Trang 25The idle speed is controlled by the PCM via the Fast Idle Control
Device (FICD) By controlling the FICD vacuum solenoids No 1 and No.2, the idle speed can be increased, depending on engine
Trang 26Idle control components
Trang 31Pre-heat timer control:
- When the ignition is turned to the “ON” position the PCM controls the glow plug relay for several seconds, depending on
the engine coolant temperature As the temperature increases the operating time of the relay decreases
The glow plug lamp will illuminate while the relay is operating (KOEO only)
Hold temperature timer control:
>
The PCM controls the glow plug relay for approx 15 seconds
when the ignition is switched to “ON.” Once the glow plug indicator light has gone out, and the ignition is still in the “ON" position, the glow plugs will be powered up for a further 15 seconds If the engine temperature is above 60° C this mode
will not operate
Trang 32
Long after-glow timer control:
@ The PCM controls the glow plug relay for approx 10 minutes
immediately after cranking with engine started, and the coolant
temperature is below 60° C
The PCM will stop long after-glow if any of the following conditions occur:
Engine coolant temperature is above 60° C Glow plug voltage is above 16 volts
Engine coolant temperature sensor or Ne sensor malfunctions
Trang 33G4 DISABLE A/C IN OVERHEAT NE SENSOR @ TEMPERATURE CO Alc cut-off
The A/C clutch is switched off by the PCM, via the relay, when the engine coolant temperature exceeds 115° C (239° F) and it wont cut back in until it drops below 112° C (234° F),
