Coordination of Protection to IEC 60947-4-1 Coordination Tables 1SBC 0097 00 R1001 edition Dec 2001 Home Fuse MCCB MMS Softstarters UL Comb MCB ABB is providing a large offer of coordination tables needed for any motor supply feeder for which protection against overload and short circuit are mandatory in industrial applications Choice Guidance For instance, a table given for 80kA is covering the intermediate short circuit leveel i.e 70, 60, kA at the same voltage However, you may find some cheaper solution for lower short circuit levels in the database : the SCPD upstream is calibrated to give the cheapest solution for the whole combination starter according to the highest shor circuit level General Remarks - to read before using the coordination tables Please read those remarks before you start using the coordination They will give you the general data and help you use the tables properly Following basic functions are achieved : overload protection, motor control, short circuit protection, isolation These functions are applied here for standard starters : direct-on-line (DOL), reverser, star-delta, softstarters Coordination Types Any table is in conformity with the standard IEC 60947-4-1 which defines two types of coodinations : - Type : there is not any risk for the operator and assets, damage to the starter is acceptable, its replacement for re-starting is generally necessary - Type : the single acceptable risk is a light welding of the contactor, that means the contacts shall be easily separated either by electrical control or using a tool After a short circuit, whatever its level, re-starting is allowed after a few verifications : all the protection device functions are still operational >> Coordination Tables - choose your type of protection - Fuses - MCCBs - MMS - MCBs - Softstarters - UL Combination Starters Short Circuit Protection Devices The starters given in the tables are protected starters or combination starters i.e the SCPD (Short Circuit Protection Device) and the starter are mounted in the same compartment or enclosure Various SPCDs are proposed : Moulded-Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB), Manual Motor Starter (MMS), Switch-Disconnector-Fuse or Switch-Fuse Circuit Breakers or fuses coordinated with starters cannot be determined directly : tests in Power Laboratories shall be carried out to qualify the coordination type at low fault and high fault currents ABB has got a large knowledge about short circuit protection in its qualified Laboratories in Europe (Low Voltage Agreement Group : LOVAG) Use of a SCPD not in compliance with the manufacturers' recommandations (type, settings) may invalidate the coordination Home Fuse MCCB MMS Softstarters UL Comb MCB General Remarks Motor Current Tables are based on 4-pole, 3-phase motor currents Indicative currents are given Magnetic Tripping Current Magnetic tripping current is everytime indicated and chosen to withstand the sub transient current at the starting phase Ambient Temperature Tables are given for 40°C ambient temperature For higher temperature a derating factor must be applied : Fuses : 0.8 to In when ambient temperature is 70°C MCCBs : 0.8 to In when ambient temperature is 60°C Thermal Overload Relay without derating up to 55°C, 0.9 In at 70°C Safety Perimeter It indicates the minimum distances of any metallic plates from the components in order to avoid any breakdown during short circuit Starting Normal starting means up to 5s (cold state) at full speed (class 10) and up to 2s (warm state) Long starting or heavy duty means starting time between to 30s (class 30) Thermal overload relays DU type and MMS are class 10A Thermal overload relays SU type are class 30 Reverser Table A "reverser" (two identical contactors) table is given by the corresponding "DOL" table Heavy duty star-delta starters Heavy duty star-delta starters are star-delta starters for which : - the motor speed reached at the end of the star period is less than 85% of the nominal one, mainly due to the incertainty of the load inertia - the connecting diagram to the motor is not in accordance with the one described in Main catalogue 1SBC0004 99 R1001 (p 8/10) -
