Lesson 2 I Objectives:

1.Organization: (1’) - Greeting

- Check absent students

1 Warm up (2’)

- Show the phonics cards, ask students to corresponding actions then say the sound of the letter and words

2 New lesson

Activity (10 mins)

- T encourages Ss to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says

- Ss: listen and point

- T plays the CD Have the students listen to the story once

- Ss: listen

- Play the CD again The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story

- Ss: listen the story and point

- T reads the printed words then let Ss look at the pictures and say the words

- Ss: look and say

- Ask students work in pairs One reads while the other checks, then they change roles

- Ss: work in pair Activity 2: (5 mins)

- T point to and says the sight words and then has

Ss repeat

- T has some students read them aloud. - Ss: read aloud

Activity (10 mins)

- T asks Ss open the book p.72 look unit 12 then asks them read the song

- Ss: read in chorus

- T follows the same procedure and presents the rest of the song

- T play the CD

- Ss: listen and sing along.

- T plays the CD again The students sing and corresponding actions

Activity 4: Jumping Game (7 mins) - Put a line of masking tape on the floor - Designate one side True and the other False

T holds up a phonics card (e.g YO-YO) and say: YELLOW

- Ss: Jump on the True side. - T holds up another phonics card - Ss: jump on the False side.

- T does the same with another phonics card - Give feedback

- Mime eating yogurt and say: /j/ - yogurt Encourage the students to the same

- Play the CD The students listen, point to and repeat the word

- Point to the picture and have students name them. - Allow the students some time to colour in the

pictures of words start with the /j/ sound.

Activity 1: Craftwork (10 mins)

- Ask the students to take out their notebooks.

- Ask them to choose one word then draw the letter Y and the picture of the item in their notebooks

- Tell them to decorate the letter and the picture. - The first three students who finish will present their

letters and pictures to the class

Activity 2: Practice writing (5 mins) - Ask a student to come to the board

- Say a word from the lesson and tell the students to write the word on the board

- Ask the rest of the class for correction - Repeat with as many students as necessary
