Week:20 Preparing date:23/12/2010 Period:55 Teaching date:27,28/12/12010 UNIT 9: UNDERSEA WORLD LESSON:READING • AIMS: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: -Get knowledge about undersea world - Use vocabulary items related to the undersea world to read and talk about the topic - Develop Reading skill like: scanning and skimming. - Develop sub- skills: speaking, listening and writing. • TEACHING AIDS: -Textbook, sub board, tape. • PROCEDUCE: I-STABILIZATION: Greeting the class & checking students’ attendance. II-CHECK- UP: No III- NEW LESSON: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1. WARM- UP: (5ms) Brainstorming - Ask Ss to give words that are related to the sea and write into a small paper - Call on some Ss to write on the blackboard Fish shark UNDER dolphin SEA whale Seal Starfish 2. PRE-READING: (15ms) Activity 1: Names of the oceans on the map - Ask Ss to look at the map carefully and give the Vietnamese names for the oceans on the map - Ask Ss to work in groups of five - Ss work in groups of six and write the words related to the sea and write into a small paper - Write them on the board - Work in group again and write the names of the oceans on the map - The winner is the group who finds the correct answers in the shortest period of time - Rub out and remember Activity 2: Names of sea animals - Ask Ss to give the Vietnamese names of the animals in the pictures - Then T asks Ss for the English names of these animals -If Ss don’t know them in English , T should provide them - Play the tape while having Ss listen. Activity 3:Pre-teaching vocabulary + divide into: (v p.) Ex: our class is divided into … groups. • + mystery(n) ~ anything that is kept secret or remains unexplained or unknown • => mysterious ( adj.) + beneath (pre) [bi'ni:θ]: under st / sb : +Submarine: ( use picture) + Marine: ~ life in the sea: + Investigate : ~ examine in detail. + fall into: to be able to be divided into sth: + challenge (n) ~ difficulty in a job or undertaking that is stimulating to one engaged in it => challenge (v ) + organism(n) ['ә:gәnizm]: ~ a form of life considered as an entity + biodiversity (n) ~ being living variety + at stake : at risk - read aloud while having Ss listen only. - Read aloud and have Ss listen and repeat. - Call on some Ss to repeat. - Listen and correct if necessary. 3. WHILE READING: (15ms) TASK 1: GAP-FILLING -Read the passage quickly and stop at the lines that contain these words to guess their meanings - Then read the sentences carefully to understand and Expected answer: 1. Arctic Ocean:['a:ktik] 2.Antartic Ocean: [æn'ta:ktik] 3.Pacific Ocean: [pә'sifik] 4.Atlantic Ocean: [әt'læntik] 5.Indian Ocean: ['indjәn] Expected answer: 1.Seal: [si:l] 2.Jellyfish: ['dʒelifi∫] 3. Turtle: ['tә:tl] 4.Shark: [∫a:k] - Work individually - Listen to the T. - Pronounce these words in chorus - Repeat in individually. -Rub out and remember choose the most suitable one to fill in the blank. - Ask Ss to work individually to do the task - Go around to help Ss when necessary - Encourage Ss to exchange their answers with other Ss - Tell them and explain their choices TASK 2: ANSWERING QUESTION - Instruct Ss to use some strategies to do the task - Go back the passage to find out the information for the questions - Ask Ss to work in groups ( divide class into 4 groups) to answer the questions. Group 1 + 3: questions 1, 2, 3. Group 2 + 4: questions 4,5,6. - Ask them write down their answers in sub boards. - Collect the sib boards of the groups that finish first. - Paste the answers on the board and have another group to correct. -Feedback and give correct answers: 4. POST READING :(8ms) Task 3: SUMMARY THE TEXT Complete the passage by filling each blank with the word or phrase given in the box. - Divide class into groups ( each group consists of 1 table) to do this task. - Go around and give help if necessary. - Work individually Expected answer: 1.tiny 2.investigate 3.gulf 4.biodiversity 5.samples - Listen to the T. - Work in groups. - Write the answers on the sub boards and paste them on the board. Expected answers: 1. 75% of the earth’s surface. 2. By using modern devises. 3. They investigate the seabed and bring samples of marine life back to the surface for further study 4. We can know a wide range of information, including water temperature, depth and the undersea populations. 5. They are those that live on or depend on the bottom like the starfish, those that move independently of water currents and those that are carried along by the currents. 6. Marine life would be at stake if the sea biodiversity were not maintained. - Work in groups.
