construction building materials in the world The mechanical and physical properties of concrete depend upon the mix proportions, type of cement, type of aggregates, cement content, water content, etc Sand, coarse aggregates come from the natures which will not enough for construction industry in the future while cement production causes pollution and other environment problems including CO2 emmission Therefore, it is really necessary to conduct the research to find out the alternative materials to replace partly orginal portland cement (OPC) in the concrete mix.The project studied the effect of class F fly ash from Pha Lai power station on the development of flexural strength of concrete The mix composition was cement: sand: coarse aggregate of 1:2:3 and kept constrantly during the project while orginal portland cement was replaced by class F fly ash on the mass basic of total cementitious material (total of OPC and fly ash) at the replacement portion of 0%, 10%, 20% and 40% when the water and cementitious material (CM) ratio was constant at 0.42 and 0.5 for Group1 and Group respectively The flexural strength tests were conducted on the sample dimensions of 100x100x500 mm and determined up to 90 days The test results show that fly ash increased the workability of fresh concrete proving that fly ash consumed less water than OPC In general fly ash reduced the flexural strength at age before 56 days when W/CM =0.42 and at age before 28 days when W/CM=0.5, then the flexural continued to increase The flexural strengths of 20%FA replacement at 90 days were higher than that of the control samples The flexural strengths of 10%FA replacement were close or higher than that of the control samples depending on the W/CM The flexural strengths of 40%FA replacement were less than that of the control samples and predicted to continue develop after 90 days Within the range of investigation the authors recommend that 20%FA replacement should be used Key words: concrete,
