WARM-UP 2’

 T asks:

- Which city was struck by a huge earthquake in Japan in 1995?

- It is Kobe.

 T says and writes on the board:

- The city which was struck by a huge earthquake in Japan in 1995 is Kobe

PRESENTATION 3’

 T uses the example from the warm-up to explain the request of the exercise

 Ss see and read all the questions (page 81) PRACTICE

2) Match each of the sentences in column A with a related sentence in column B Then use a suitable relative pronoun to join the two sentences (18’)

WARM-UP 3’

 T asks Ss to find the sentence (written on flash cards) in column B which relates to sentence in column A

 Ss find and stick the correct sentence on the board below the sentence

 T asks Ss combine the two sentences using the relative pronoun ‘which’

e Sacramento is the capital city of California.

 Andrew is flying to Sacramento which is the capital city of California

 T uses the example from the warm-up to explain the request of the exercise (page 81 & 82)

 Ss work in groups to the matching  T corrects the answers

 Ss work in pairs to combine the sentences using the relative pronouns: ‘which’

 Ss write their answers on the board  T corrects (if necessary)

CONSOLIDATION 3’

 T emphasizes the difference between defining and non-defining relative clauses

 T asks Ss to look at the book and the exercise orally again 3) Underline the relative clause in the sentence Then add commas to separate the non-defining relative clause from the rest of the sentence (5’)
