advance in technology makes the speed of change faster ISO 9001: 2015 requires the organization to “… determine external and internal issues that are relevant to its purpose and its strategic direction and that affect its ability to achieve the intended result(s) of its quality management systems” (ISO 9001: 2015) In order to so, organizations must have a clear understanding of their strategic direction Often, organizations’ strategies are uncoordinated and misaligned without clear direction This lack of direction has a direct impact on its QMS, thus aligning strategies is a great input to any QMS (West and Cianfrani, 2014) Earlier versions of Draft International Standard (DIS) did not emphasize this alignment Although the standards mandate such an inquiry, it is the responsibility of the organization to decide on the extent to evaluate the internal and external conditions pertaining to its performance This is a challenge, although the concept is fairly simple A third addition is the use of the terms interested parties and needs and expectations Previously, only the customers’ voices were addressed The change ensures that voices other than customers are relevant For instance, interested parties may include regulatory bodies, suppliers, the community, and the society at large This modification does not negate the voice of the customers, but rather acknowledges the voices of other stakeholders It is up to the organization to decide who the stakeholders are and what issues they have that could potentially impact the organization’s performance The last major modification proposed is the system thinking and process approach Although the use of process approach in developing and maintaining QMS is not new, the ISO 9001:2015 requires organizations to identify their processes, interactions, and resources needed to operate These processes need to be controlled, measured, and improved ISO 9001:2015  also reiterates that people are key to improving processes and system thinking serves as the catalyst to make this happen It is critical to understand how the entire system works rather than search only for direct cause–effect relationships Changes in ISO 9001:2015  are an opportunity to revisit organizational areas that yet need to be improved An awareness of the upcoming changes in ISO 9001:2015 will enable quality professionals to better prepare for the future ISO 9001:2008 was revised by various committees, societies, and institutes, and ISO 9001:2015 was published in September 2015 It has the following clauses: Context of organization/QMS Leadership Planning for QMS Support Operation Performance evaluation Improvement Table  9.4  lists the clauses of ISO 9001:2015  and ISO 9001:2008  and their correlations
