AlIA BhATT: “Both Ranbir and Ranveer are very special to me!” FEBRUARY 2019 www.stardust.co.in ` 75 FOR SALE ONLY IN INDIA “I Was Born For Gully Boy; Only I Can Do This!” Ranveer Singh Accused or scApegoAt? Are Shibani Dandekar And Farhan Akhtar Getting Married ? Was Raju HiRani fRamed so tHat He could be Robbed of His RigHtful cRedit? Can Word Of Mouth Make Or Mar A Film? 2018 was a year of marriages - from Deepika Padukone to Priyanka Chopra; and many other stars got married last year Well, Amy Jackson too is following close at the heels and is expected to tie the knot in 2020 with her boyfriend George Panayiotou Now with her ex Prateik Babbar married, Amy too has moved on and how! Amy Jackson OOOOO we would really like to see jump onto the wedding band baaja bandwagon is our fave Sushmita Sen But Sush refuses to concur, more so she shocked us further when she posted a picture on social media saying marriages are creepy! Whaaaat! OOOOO A li’l bird whispered that mamma Madhu Chopra was not happy with Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ big fat wedding and that made us jump out of our skins Supposedly, Madhu wanted her daughter’s wedding to have a longer guest list but the list was restricted to only 200 (sob) and apparently, now she wants another wedding so that she can call everyone she wasn’t able to call for the first one…Some times wedding celebrations just don’t end, they? OOOOO If 2018 was full of star weddings, 2019 too looks pretty bright on the shaadi front Fron Varun Dhawan to Arjun Kapoor to Farhan Akhtar… all seem to be ready to get hitched to their loving partners But who Hushed whispers doing the ‘rounds say that Bollywood’s super couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s relationship might be on its last limbs right now Tabloids say that Ranbir is dodging his girlfriend and giving her the cold shoulder, going back to his old aloof ways the way he did with his previous highprofile couplings We wouldn’t really want this union to sour, but if it does turn out to be true, sorry folks but we’re team Alia all the way! OOOOO The reigning queen of television and all things dramatic, Ekta Kapoor now has another cute li’l thing to look after Apparently, she’s decided to jump onto the baby boom bandwagon and become mother to a baby boy via surrogacy Ekta has called her bundle of joy Ravie after grandpa Jeetu whose real name is the same Looks like we have another pap fave in the making! OOOOO The Indian wire BRAND with The highest number of international certifications VDE BASEC CSA Canada PSB UL Germany UK TUV Germany SABS Singapore US NF France SA ESMA UAE All our products conform to CE, ROHS & REACH compliance when you want quality wires, choose RR Kabel www.rrkabel.com | www.rrglobal.in | Follow us Now let’s move on to a different Kapoor, namely Aditya Roy Kapur After sending the webzines into a tizzy with his aunty-ji impersonation on Varun Dhawan’s Instagram about when he’d join the social media platform, he finally did it! All of Bollywood moseyed on down to the actor’s Insta profile to welcome him Aditya, all we want now is for you to go ahead ‘n’ post naughty little things for us to gush on… OOOOO But be careful or else you could just end up having a free-for-all fumble quite like Disha Patani did The starlet put up a paid Instagram post for a mobile company when she ‘accidentally’ put up a message for her team, and the internet did what they are great at… they trolled her on her faulty ‘copy-pasting’ skills Mercilessly! No one thought that a pairing like Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar would work as well as it did But not only did they soar, they are now about to start prep on their third film together, Amar Kaushik’s Bala Filming reportedly begins in April and the film will see two individuals come together in a society that looks down upon their well, looks OOOOO But apparently, the Bhumi-Ayushmann pairing was as accidental as it could be On Koffee With Karan, Bhumi revealed that YRF casting director Shanoo Sharma asked Bhumi to ‘mock audition’ for Dum Laga Ke Haisha when she was just an assistant Four mock scenes later, Shanoo told her, “You’re being considered for ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’,” which honestly must’ve been as huge a surprise to Bhumi as much as it was for us All’s well that ends well! OOOOO OOOOO Rajkummar Rao and Fatima Sana Shaikh seem like two actors who really know how to have a good time While shooting for their Anurag Basu venture together in Bhopal, Fatima spotted a baaraat nearby and pulled Rajkummar along with her to gatecrash the party and have some of their own fun It took 15 whole minutes before someone realised that two big Bollywood stars were dancing the night away pointed out that she was posing in front of a picture of Amitabh Bachchan One look at the frame and Rekha hightailed it out of there as if someone had brought on the plague ‘That moment’ made everyone’s night memorable indeed! OOOOO at their baaraat And that’s when they got plagued with selfie requests, by then of course they fled the scene the price one pays for success OOOOO Speaking of fun, we’ve never had reason not to adore Rekha, and recent events just add a special tizz to it At Dabboo Ratnani’s 2019 calendar launch, Rekha candidly posed for the paparazzi when someone While Akshay Kumar has his own Good News to shoot for with Kareena Kapoor, it seems like he’ll be bringing us another piece of ‘good news’ pretty soon as Hera Pheri might finally go on floors by the end of this year with Akshay, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal Finally, of course, is an understatement! Amidst months of reports of the film being back on, stalled and shelved, it seems like the third part of this hilarious franchise might get to see the light of day after all! Hallelujah! OOOOO Some times, trolls are nasty In a recent chat show interview, Sara Ali Khan was subjected to some of her online haters for her supposedly ‘skimpy’ outfit choices But Sara being a chip of the ol’ block like Dad Saif laughed her head off at a little hatke comment ‘Nawab gareeb ho gaye’ and that cooled all the hate trolls Sometimes a li’l sense of humour helps OOOOO The internet trolls have been having a field day lately, their recent target being the ever present Karan Johar KJo revealed that he killed off Anushka Sharma’s character in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil because ‘she didn’t love Ranbir, so she got cancer and had to die’ He later called himself ‘God’ and said that it was her ‘punishment’ The ladies of the web did not take to it kindly and promptly proceeded to tear KJo apart for his twisted views on love and karma Not a good month for Karan Johar, no no National Girl Child Day But instead of going ‘aww’, every one started bashing the star for completely ignoring the fact that he has another daughter who he ‘conveniently’ forgot to wish - his first wife Richa Sharma’s daughter Trishala Dutt He brushed them under the carpet in his blockbuster biopic Sanju too But then again, some ghosts just don’t go away OOOOO OOOOO Another superstar left unappreciated was Sanjay Dutt Sanju Baba decided to put up an adorable post celebrating Iqra, his daughter with Maanyata on As far as frosty relationships are concerned, let’s talk about Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande Well, the muphat Ankita straight up admitted that she wasn’t on talking terms with her ex On being asked whether she would work with him, the Manikarnika actress said that if the script was good, then ‘I have no choice’ Ouch! Well, it seems like the two have some sorting out to in the congeniality department OOOOO Chanda Patil Gulshan Grover with Anirudh Dhoot and Ashok Dhamankar Chahatt Khanna 86 stardust february 2019 Renu and Madhur Bhandarkar Luv Sinha Amit Palve with Ashok Dhamankar Shivarama Bhandary with Rahul Dev Bharat Dhabolkar Ketaki Latkar with Kabir Bedi Rahul Roy with Pia Vardhaman Choksi the back foot We nudge women to believe in themselves, nurture their aspirations and strengthen their wings to fly… In another illustration of ‘SAVVY’s’ lifelong commitment to engage ‘n’ empower women, we launched the ‘SAVVY Mrs India 2019’ pageant Host model-actress Rupali Suri kicked the evening off in high gear by inviting chief guests Kabir Bedi and Parveen Bedi; Anjana Mascarenhas, India’s premier pageant coach; Ashok Dhamankar, Director, Magna Publishing Co Ltd; and Andrea CostaBir, Editor, ‘SAVVY’, onto the stage to unveil the ‘SAVVY Mrs India 2019’ pageant in front of the media and celebrity guests The glitzy guest list for the event included Madhur and Renu Bhandarkar, Rahul Roy and Pia, Gulshan Grover, Bharat Dhabolkar, Rajeev Paul, Luv Sinha, Arjan Bajwa, Nikhil Dwivedi, Shibani Kashyap, Ashish Basin and his wife, Anirudh Dhoot, Rahul Dev, Danesh Chadha, Ahana Yogesh Lakhani february 2019 stardust 87 Poonam and Kriti Soni Ram Mirchandani, Ashok Dhamankar and Arjan Bajwa Simran Godhwani, Karl Mascarenhas and Leena di Vinchi 88 stardust february 2019 Kabir and Parveen Bedi with a friend Bobby Scott with Jeenal and Gayatri Pandya Shibani Kashyap with Preeti Bhalla Aartii Nagpal Rahul Roy and Rajeev Paul Team Magna with Kabir and Parveen Bedi; Madhur and Renu Bhandari Vasant Bhandari Kumra, Chahatt Khanna, Karl Mascarenhas, Preeti Bhalla, Aarti Nagpal, Kamlesh and Kaushika Hemdev, Yogesh Lakhani, Amit Palve, Poonam Soni, Ram Mirchandani, Chanda Patil, Jeenal Pandya, Akshita, Shivarama Bhandary, Vasant Bhandari and many more… The amazing lineup of guests enjoyed the wonderful hospitality that Vardhaman Choksi of ‘Escobar’ laid out… Cocktails flowed and the dinner was delectable! ‘Escobar’s’ vibe, the pageant’s contestants and the celebrity guests all melded together to make the evening a stellar one! february 2019 stardust 89 Sapna Sarfare, Deputy Editor, Society, Nari Hira, Chairman, Magna Publications, Actor Govinda, Actress Mishika Chaurasia and producer Pahlaj Nihalani starstrucK! Superstar Govinda came to launch Society’s December issue And the result was simply ‘wow’! Read all about it T he December 2018 issue of Society was launched by the enigmatic icon of all times, Govinda The buzz at Magna Lounge was super powerful People crowded just to catch a glimpse of the man of the hour The moment Govinda came in, the whole Magna office was charged and his jovial attitude put everyone at ease The event kick started on a pleasant note when Nari Hira, Chairman, Magna Publishing Co Ltd and Sapna Sarfare, the Deputy Editor of Society along with Govinda, Pahlaj Nihalani and Mishika Chaurasia unveiled the appealing December issue of Society The cover of the issue highlights Govinda and his current film Rangeela Raja While it covers various perspectives such as the censorship issues they faced, and the film, it also brings to the forefront 90 stardust february 2019 the fact that Pahlaj and Govinda were working together after 25 long years Our emcee, Manpreet Kaur Hora from Stardust, made sure the event and conversations flowed smoothly without a hitch Reminiscing about the past, Govinda shares his experience about working with Pahlaj throughout these years “He has introduced more than dozen stars to the film industry They have done very well and I am one among them I feel very proud to join Pahlaj once again. He has always given me hits,” said Govinda The bond which they share is evident from the dais itself Pahlaj also shares similar thoughts about his Emcee Manpreet Kaur Hora Actor Govinda with Ashok Dhamankar, Director, Magna Publications Rangeela Raja star “Govinda is the one and only person you enjoy while working The respect and love which he used to give me from the first film has not changed in set till now Though in real life we have changed and we are sharing it as friends This time we are closer as friends That is the only difference that has come in 25 years I am glad to work with him again Whatever we were asking him to he has always given more than that He has proved himself as an actor!” elaborated Pahlaj As comic as Govinda’s films are, in real life as well he energises the press conference with his witty comments When a journalist asked how he managed to keep himself trim, a jovial Govinda replied, “There is no hard work behind that My wife doesn’t allow me to eat!” When the topic of Rangeela Raja being based on Vijay Mallya rose, Govinda explained “He said that he wanted to present a high lifestyle individual It is better to copy Mr Mallya because he looks very graceful.” To evade any wrong presumption that might occur due to this, he hastily corrected himself saying, “I feel the same on a personal level There is no political decision going on here Copying somebody who really looks nice is good It is inspired It has nothing to with him I would never a film like that We don’t want to take publicity that manner.” On being questioned what the scenario will look like in the month of January as the film The Accidental Prime Minster is also being released on a similar date as Rangeela Raja, our actor gave a very nonchalant reply “I never believed in confrontation! I don’t look towards right or left I never had the time as well And when I get the time, I never got the opportunity to look at any other film as the thought, The crowds thronging around Govinda method and style of the films I make is completely different compared to others They are Govinda type films ” The delay of Rangeela Raja was due to a lot of cuts being placed This has clearly upset Nihalani a lot “I have never made films which require cuts,” he replied when a question was asked regarding the cuts placed “The cuts which are given by the CBFC is very unjustified Unfortunately since it was Diwali time, the chairperson was not available and the movie couldn’t go to therevising committee I went to court but it was not in my fate for the movie to get a release date on Diwali CBFC has put a lot of hard work in inserting cuts in my film All this was focused on me and not on the movie as the film does not have a reason to possess cuts.” A well-rounded discussion ended and it was time for Govinda to leave with Pahlaj and newbie Mishika Chaurasia And this is when we realised the true extent of Govinda’s stardom and the love he still holds amongst his fans They just came in hordes in and for almost 15 minutes, there was total chaos It was quite heart-warming to witness this love first hand february 2019 stardust 91 “Karan Johar is a chalta Phirta Gucci showroom!” On style icons, rookie moments and more Sidharth Malhotra in conversation with Manpreet Kaur Hora Who you look up to for fashion advice in the industry? Definitely Karan Johar, who is a chalta phirta Gucci showroom But he has great knowledge about all brands and obviously, great taste Manish Malhotra, who I have been styled by from my very first film I, having a background of working in fashion, have friends who help out and make certain stuff for me like Siddharth Tyler and Rohit Bal Last year I walked for Shantanu and Nikhil for Blenders Pride and I have worn their clothes enough So I’m pretty much taken care of in the fashion department Who is your style icon? Saif Ali Khan, he is somebody who carries a dinner jacket very well in the formal space I have always seen him dressed impeccably, whether we’re at a show or a party Mr Bachchan has really cool taste as well, he can pull off pretty much any colour or any kind of wardrobe I have only met him a couple of times and the second time I met him I was busy discussing his wardrobe, where does he keep his clothes, how does he 92 stardust february 2019 keep it, how does he manage it and where does he get them from (laughs) So I would say Mr Bachchan and Saif for sure What is your current fashion phase? Athleisure, as you can see (that is what he was wearing)! Brands you are obsessed with? It keeps changing, I won’t say I am brand conscious It depends on if someone is designing for me For instance, I’m wearing Gucci athleisure right now, so that could be one A trend you think is worth following? Athleisure! Comfortable clothes I think, because if you go to the West, people are wearing this for parties now too It’s really comfortable It’s best for travel though I love it while travelling Your red carpet rookie moment? Initially, I used to wear my bow tie too tight, it was uncomfortable after a point of time and I couldn’t loosen it The red carpet is so long and you‘re only giving interviews, so I learned that lesson What would be your grooming essentials? For guys, it pretty much starts with health, eating and working out to a certain extent, so we don’t have to stuff excessively to look a certain way or work on our skin or hair I believe that it’s pretty much about your nutrition If I have my food right, I’m basically taking care of my grooming aspect Also, washing your skin I personally wash my face before sleeping and nothing else So pretty much eat right and you are fine What are your wardrobe must haves? Definitely a black tee, white tee, blue denim, a corduroy jacket, a nice suede jacket could fit into the young zone Tuxedoes these days have become a big trend, or even just a black suit and formal shoes How you dress up according to your mood or occasion? In my personal life, definitely according to my mood Generally I like athleisure because its very comfortable, softer fabrics, easier fits, basically more on the comfort side of things You walked the runway for Blenders Pride Fashion Tour for Rohit Bal What does pride mean to you? It’s a wonderful theme they have, celebrating one’s individual journey and life Be it a guy or girl, everyone has their own struggle One needs to have their own aims and ambitions For me, starting all the way from Delhi, giving auditions or doing modelling for ads or shows and then coming here, it’s quite a far-fetched journey I’m not boasting about it But definitely, it’s something nobody in my family has done So I can frankly say that I have pride in where I am today and the journey is not ending It’s a wonderful theme, I walked for Rohit again after so many years He himself is a self made designer and works really hard and has been selling for so many years It was great walking for him again february 2019 stardust 93 “I Don’t Lift Something And Blindly Copy It “ ” “““ She set foot in Bollywood with a wardrobe dominated by easy layers and blazers On fashion advice, personal style and more, diana Penty in conversation with Manpreet Kaur Hora Who you look up to for fashion advice in the industry? I personally think Sonam Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut dress really well I also like Anushka Sharma’s street style She has got a very cool casual street vibe Sonam would be for high fashion, couture and Kangana for a very classic sense of style Who is your style icon? My style icon is Kendall Jenner and in Bollywood, it is a combination of Sonam Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Anushka Sharma Favourite fashion labels? Internationally I love Alberta Ferretti, Valentino, Dior, then over here it would be Amit Aggarwal, Gaurav Gupta, Rohit Bal, the list is quite endless A trend you think is worth following? Metallics I’m very much into metallics these days for some reason Your red carpet rookie moment? I don’t anything drastic, for me it has always been very classic and understated There have been times when maybe things don’t come together well, for instance hair and makeup going wrong I can’t remember any one moment in particular, but I’m sure there have been quite a few of them Where you get your fashion inspiration from? I follow a lot of blogs and magazines, I Instagram a lot of fashion forward people and bloggers Also, of course, following the fashion weeks across the world gives me an idea of what’s going on, what the current trend is, how people are wearing things differently and when you look at it visually, they get in your head and then I incorporate them in my own way For me, it’s incorporating it the way it will suit me while adding certain elements, not necessarily lifting something and blindly copying it What is your personal style? My style has always been very minimal I can even go as extreme as Scandinavian because I love black and white, very minimal straight cuts, structured I like to experiment a little bit in terms of what is currently in trend or doing something that is different for me I like to play around a little to have fun For the most part, if I have to pick between something completely outrageous and something very minimal and classic, I would go for the classic What are your wardrobe must haves? Denim that fits really well in different cuts and styles, a crisp white shirt, t-shirts in black, white, grey and beige, well fitted tuxedos and blazers and also lots and lots of shoes From flats to heels to kitten heels to boots, all of them! “Deepika Padukone Is Sizzling Hot.” One of India’s most successful designers, rohit Bal talks about Bollywood fashion icons, his dream show and more with Manpreet Kaur Hora Your dream show that you want your collection to be featured at? I would like to a show at the Taj Mahal, that would be my dream show For the simple fact that we are not allowed to shows there But it’s a dream, it’s a fantasy What are the upcoming fashion trends of 2019? I don’t follow trends, I never read fashion magazines So quite honestly, I don’t know what trends are going on It’s been a long period of simplicity and classic, so now people are going back to glamour People love glamour, they want to be glamorous, want to wear glamorous clothes So I think that might be one of the important trends, going back to glamour and loving glamour again Who you think have been Bollywood fashion icons over the years? Zeenat Aman for me is definitely by far the greatest style icon of Bollywood I can never forget her in Hare Rama Hare Krishna and Yaadon ki Baraat She was spectacularly fashionable and fabulous Before that, Madhubala was very beautiful and fashionable In recent times, Arjun Rampal is a very strong style icon, and now for me it’s Ranveer Singh Priyanka Chopra is very chic and trendy But my overall number one would be Deepika Padukone She is completely sizzling, that’s the right word for her, she is sizzling hot! Now Ranveer Singh will slap me (laughs) Sidharth Malhotra and Diana Penty are your muses for your latest show, what would you like to say about them? I’ve known Sidharth Malhotra since he was a little boy and he is incredibly handsome He was a model, he has done lots of my shows I’ve always had a great fondness for him I have seen him as a little baby He is somebody who is great on a ramp It’s not just about film stars, it’s also about who makes your clothes look beautiful and has a certain sense of style and individualism He has charisma, he is a very strong fashion persona Diana Penty is, of course, oh my God! Beyond beautiful! I shopped with her recently and we were together on a holiday in France, and I think she is one of the most beautiful women in this country and I’m thrilled to have her as a part of my collection february 2019 stardust 95 suPer show!
