OOOOO The Indian wire BRAND with The highest number of international certifications VDE BASEC CSA Canada PSB UL Germany UK TUV Germany SABS Singapore US NF France SA ESMA UAE All our products conform to CE, ROHS & REACH compliance when you want quality wires, choose RR Kabel www.rrkabel.com | www.rrglobal.in | Follow us Speaking of Kedarnath, the movie’s leading lady Sara Ali Khan might already have another role in her hands – opposite Tiger Shroff in Baaghi Considering Sara was earlier tapped to debut opposite Tiger in Student of the Year 2, this is Sara coming full circle Now all we want to hear is what Disha Patani, in all her feisty glory, has to say about that! OOOOO Now here’s a killer! Deepika Padukone – actress, model, newly-wed – was apparently not Imtiaz Ali’s first choice for Tamasha No, that honour goes to Anushka Sharma, who rejected the part because she felt that this wasn’t the best film for her to make her debut with Imtiaz It’s fun to imagine what could’ve been, but Tamasha was at least a time for all the ‘Deepbir’ (couldn’t think of much better) super fans to see their fave Jodi on screen indulge in smokin’ hot romance, jhoota sahi! Unfortunately, when one conflict dies, another one arises And this involved Ranbir Kapoor who didn’t actually make it to the reception Deepika wasn’t exactly fazed and she nonchalantly stated in an interview, “That’s him I’m not surprised at all.” She then went on to call her current relationship with him ‘beautiful’ But we’re not exactly sure where the two stand and her being married now just makes things a whole lot more complicated! OOOOO Speaking of Bollywood being frosty, Vishal Bhardwaj recently opened up in an interview on a film he considers to be a big failure, Rangoon While he attributed that he was trying to something too ambitious with the project, it’s probably because ‘the actors that were in the film (Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut) were completely at loggerheads with each other.’ He may not have given us much knowledge on what exactly went down, but all we can say is winter is here OOOOO OOOOO And speaking of churning, what’s not ‘rallying’ is the Saina Nehwal biopic And that apparently has director Amole Gupte a bit irked because Shraddha Kapoor’s dates are ‘a bit of a mess’ considering she’s working on this and for Chichhore opposite Sushant Gupte isn’t happy with the ‘second hand treatment’ his film is receiving, according to a little ‘birdie’ But we think Shraddha, with a little bit of juggling, can ‘smash’ it One of 2017’s biggest sleeper hits was Hindi Medium, the Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar flick that is now generating a sequel buzz Although everyone expects to see Irrfan back for it, fans were left shooketh when reports emerged that Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol would feature as the lead duo Apparently, Irrfan’s ill health made it tough for him to star and it’d be interesting to see how Raj and Simran translate this content-driven film OOOOO Good news! Rohit Shetty announced that the next in the Golmaal franchise, Golmaal 5, is confirmed! The director himself mentioned that the cameos of the Golmaal boys in Simmba song Aankh marey was a hint about the next movie An ordinary moviegoer would think, “Hasn’t this franchise run its course?” Well, folks, as long as the people are buyin’, Rohit will keep on churnin’! OOOOO OOOOO Our cover boy last month, Ali Fazal, seems to be living up to his ‘sexiest man’ title by being one super lovey-dovey boyfriend to Richa Chadha The actor whisked her away for her birthday – to the Maldives! Apparently it all came as a surprise to Richa and we’re sure it must’ve fetched him major brownie points And this came mere days after he confirmed his relationship with her and admitted to her being pretty ‘special’ Did we hear some one say , “another wedding?” OOOOO Sexy Ali Fazal Charms Magna Lounge ‘Bollywood’s Sexiest Man’ Ali FAzAl arrived at Magna House to unveil the December 2018 cover of India’s biggest and best film magazine Stardust Here’s the goss behind this mega unveiling Nari Hira, Chairman, Magna Publishing Co Ltd, Ali Fazal and Sumita Chakraborty, Editor Stardust I t was indeed a wonderful afternoon at the Magna Lounge when the dashing Ali Fazal came to unveil the December 2018 issue of Stardust Nari Hira, Chairman, Magna Publishing Co Ltd and Sumita Chakraborty, the Editor of Stardust, joined the very handsome Ali on the dais to unveil the magazine while the emcee of the event, Ahad Sanwari kickstarted the proceedings Looking absolutely spiffy, Ali 94 stardust JANUARY 2019 unveiled the December cover in front of the media amidst loud applause and cheering whistles which validated the fact that Ali was indeed the best choice for the ‘Bollywood’s sexiest man’ tag “I’m absolutely stoked,” said a very pleased Ali as he very charmingly answered the questions even the tricky ones that the media threw at him The amazing response his web series Mirzapur had garnered Ali Fazal showing off the cover of Stardust’s December issue Ali Fazal with the Stardust team was, of course the talking point Ali conceded, “A lot of people are loving Mirzapur and I’ve been constantly getting great responses.” Adding, jokingly, “People in India clearly love violence, that’s so evident!” About his off-beat character in Mirzapur, Ali said, “It was very challenging for me to play the role It had so many cuss words, which I found difficult to repeat I asked them to cut down many And they did But there are still enough cuss words in this series for me to go red in the face.” The actor also confirmed that a second season for Mirzapur was under way JANUARY 2019 stardust 95 96 stardust JANUARY 2019 He was then asked about his experience working on his upcoming movie Prasthanam with Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala to which he replied, “I’ve never had such a lovely experience Sanjay sir plays my father and Manisha ma’am my mother We shot a song together and it was such a good, fun time.” When a journalist asked him about girlfriend Richa Chadha, a very red-faced Ali said, “Confirm hai, aur kya bolu ab?” and burst into laughter He even admitted that she was a tender part of his life Nice! The event ended on a happy note with the shutterbugs rushing to the dais to capture the charming actor All in all, it was indeed an amazing afternoon JANUARY 2019 stardust 97 Tête-à-tête “The experience Of Working With Actors Is Very Important, The Chemistry Needs To Be There.” Indian ad filmmaker, AleyA Sen majorly staked her claim in Bollywood this year as the producer for Badhaai Ho Read on as she speaks to Manpreet Kaur Hora about how it was working with Ayushmann Khurrana and the movie’s success You’ve been in the industry since 2001, how did your career unfold? It started in advertising., I assisted Pradeep Sircar initially then started with my production house called Chrome Pictures with my partners Amit Sharma and Hemant Bhandari So, this year I made my directorial debut with my first Bollywood film which is Dil Junglee and produced Badaai Ho I think 2018 was really quick for me and there is a lot happening around Now I’m looking into a lot of things like web series and even more What was the defining moment of your career? I have seen that there isn’t just one moment, it starts from the time that I probably chose to step into this industry I set goals for myself I started my company when I was 25 so there was this aspirational factor, other than the life milestones to be covered All of this doesn’t happen right at the point that you want it to happen But yes, I guess it’s there in your head when you are heading that way and somehow it has all fallen into place one by one How was it directing Dil Junglee? As a first experience it’s kind of blooming, it was very good Unfortunately, it (Dil Junglee) didn’t that well at the Box office My first time doing a sequence and scenes in a long format was a very different experience, especially when you an ad where the most you have of a shoot schedule will probably last for about 1012 days And then you pack up and leave This film spanned 45 days in London with my cast and crew We were all staying together, we were eating, breathing, sleeping the same way So that is very difficult to explain as to what that journey does to you and at a personal level, how much it affects and stays with you, unlike an advertisement What is the one mistake most filmmakers make, regardless of experience? I’m not in a position to comment on that I feel it would be wrong to comment on anyone’s mistake mostly because what I use to judge is the Box office numbers But say for example a film like Tumbbad, I may really connect with it but it hasn’t done that well at the Box office and all such things and you cannot say that the director went wrong there It is also a lot to with the producers When I produced, I realised how much in today’s day and time, you have to be a creative producer The kind of crowd you need to pull into the hall are the people who are watching Game of Thrones or 13 Reasons Why You need to consider what are the things you can use to entice people to get excited to come and watch the film One of the biggest things with Dil Junglee was language In the first half of the film, the language was very western Delhi But the film not being promoted in the northern region meant that it wasn’t doing well in the north at all How was it working with Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra? Ayushmann Khurrana has carved out a beautiful space for himself in the industry The best part is or the truth is he selects his content When you are reading the script, you, as a filmmaker, understand the content or what the final product will be which can be difficult for an actor You may visualise something which is different from what is finally made That’s the difference between a script and a film So I feel he has a very good handle on understanding how good content would turn out to be a good film Another thing is he has courage, ever since the time he started The courage to go with a good script and not just reading his scenes Like in Badhaai Ho, he worked on the script so well that he didn’t just look at his role and appreciated everyone else’s as well Sanya Malhotra is very good to work with, she is very chirpy The experience of working with actors is very important, the chemistry needs to be there That’s mostly between a director and actors, however, more so than a producer I personally understand that as a director more What you find more challenging - directing or producing? I don’t see it as a challenge at all I feel that I definitely understand my work as a director because I run a company and it has been 14 years now so, by default, my head works as a producer Things can be systematic in my head as I want them to be I have fairly good idea of production and have technical knowledge Between the two, I like directing a bit more, I really enjoy it JANUARY 2019 stardust 99 Tête-à-tête “I Am The Reborn Soul Of An Artiste With The Versatility I Was Born With “ Bengali beauty PriyAnkA roy will be making her big screen debut with the film Night and Fog Read on as she speaks to Manpreet Kaur Hora about her debut in Bollywood and the challenges she faced You’ve been modelling since the age of seven, what made you want to pursue a career as an actor? Maybe I’m the reborn soul of an artiste with the versatility I was born with (laughs) What are your goals as an actress? How you see yourself progressing in this field? As an actress I want to play all kinds of challenging roles, something which inspires people If I will be fortunate enough to get meaningful roles that can make beautiful changes in people’s lives, then it will be my progress as an actress People want to see themselves in the actor’s characters, I want to touch the hearts of my audience I want to be them, in each role they should be able to see their own story Not only is your first movie a biopic, but you’ll also be the leading lady! Do you think that you have the potential to carry a film on your shoulders? 100 stardust JANUARY 2019 I am debuting in this film as the protagonist’s daughter and also a journalist who is actually narrating the story The protagonist being played by Rahul Roy ji is based on a director, it’s his story The film is complicated and the narrative is layered and it’s based on his journey to make his masterpiece film which is pure in every sense It is of course daunting for any newcomer to debut in the film industry due to all the competition, but this film has given me a platform to freely show my talent as an actress The role has been tough and satisfying at the same time Furthermore, my director Tanvir Ahmad sahab has given me the opportunity to sing two tracks for the film with Tochi Raina which are basically two Sufi songs, so hopefully I will be noticed What made you take this role and how did you prep for it? Night and Fog is a very challenging script For me as a newcomer, it was difficult to play a double role in my very first film On the one hand, I play the narrator of the film, which is completely different from playing the daughter of the lead protagonist Playing two different roles in one film is very challenging, I wanted my first film to be performance oriented, where I can show my audience my talent and to showcase my work to other filmmakers JANUARY 2019 stardust 101 SupeR ShOW The Indywood Film Carnival 2018 Was Indeed A Wonderful Experience T All Lights International Film Festival Golden Frame Awards Mr Hyderabad awarded at Indywood Fashion Premiere League Panel discussion on Indian cinema’s adaptation to globalisation 102 stardust JANUARY 2019 he fourth edition of the entertainment fiesta, Indywood Film Carnival took place at the HITEX convention centre, Hyderabad from December 1-5 In an aim to elevate the film Industry to international standards, Project Indywood is a venture of $10 billion USD “Only after I entered into filmmaking is when I realized the pathetic condition of the Indian Film Industry today The infrastructure is poor and investors would hesitate to put money into the industry It’s nowhere on par with the international industry,” says Sohan Roy, the Founding Director of Indywood Film Carnival “I had various discussions with many people in the industry on how to bring a change As cinema was in our blood, I thought we must use it as an exporting tool It required money and technology That’s when I decided to design Indywood on my own.” he adds Project Indywood is his brain-child which is an amalgamation of Indywood Academy Awards, Indywood Billionaires Meet, Indywood Telly Awards, Indywood Fashion Premier League and the All Lights India International Film Festival The carnival saw events that took place simultaneously, giving the audience a chance to witness a variety of events in their convenience There were workshops and talent hunt programs organized for artiste’s in the field of filmmaking, photography, acting, RJ-ing, VJing and many more There were Mayur Puri Rohan Malhotra Sanjay Gandhvi Vivek Vaswani Music Excellence Awards also panel discussions held to talk about the some significant topics affecting the cinema industry like ‘The receding divide between Hindi and Regional cinema;
