INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT U33 APPLIED PRACTICE COLLABORATIVE PROJECT Nguyen Vuong Hoang Mai | GDD17180 | 29/8/2019 1|Page SUMMARY Being created as a method to deal with plastic pollutant, Anti-plastic bag project is a simple yet helpful solution to reduce the amount of plastic bag being used As we all know, plastic right now is one of the most trivial matter in the world as it only took nearly 800 years to become the one of the heaviest environmental pollutant material Our project was to come up with 10 design concepts for Anti-Plastic campaign, these designs include four concepts for sewing bags using old clothes, six design concepts for illustrating on canvas bags Besides, we also make a poster, brochure and a short gif to encourage people to change their plastic usage habits In this report I will summarize what we had done and evaluating my dedication to the project 2|Page PROJECT - EVALUATION The first thing that came to mind when I joined this project was the recycling of old clothes to make cup holder So that, I have researched the Fabric Holder used nowaday and then started on sketched it Then, I came up with the design ideas for five different holder designs, and the team members chose four out of those five designs to make our project After that, we started to choose fabric from old clothes and went to buy some necessary things for sewing This job is quite interesting because I have never sewed But it all went very well because some of the members had previous needlework experience As a result, we completed it quite quickly than initially intended The second section I decided to go with was design onto the holder In this part, I think it would be meaningful to use images or a message to encourage people to give up the habit of using plastic bags So we decided to create a logo that says "one plastic, one thousand lifetime." I come up with these logo design ideas The first idea is that it uses a simple Arial font, plus some icons to make it more vivid The other idea is to transform the words "one plastic, one thousand lifetime" into the shape of a bag I think that if it were transformed into the shape of a bag, it would apply more variety to the products in our project With the help of Hien - a member of the team, we worked together through the design on the software and finally we finished it The third section We decided to create some illustrations to encourage people to give up the use of plastic bags In it, I drew and designed on software illustrations, which one design is on the ground, and the other is under the ocean In particular, on the ground, I want to express the present situation through the image of a tomb The fact is, on average, each Vietnamese person produces 1.2kg of waste Therefore, if there is a real tomb for "garbage", then its grave will be higher than their own grave Moreover, if they not know how to give up these bad habits, then the people they love will suffer the consequences they leave behind About illustration design under the ocean According to the United Nations, plastic waste has reached pandemic levels with 100 million tons found in the oceans So that, I chose to visualize animals in the ocean to make it speak I want to show the fact that humans continually dump garbage into the ocean makes it uncomfortable or, moreover, those creatures will go extinct I finished this in just two days because my drawing in software skills was also quite fast The fourth section, according to our lecturer, he wanted us to design a poster and a brochure and make them more connected I became the brochure designer in the group My idea of designing a brochure is to use some installation art to make it more interesting However, this design was not appreciated by my instructor, so I decided to combine the use of our poster that other members have made with the illustrations I designed myself Besides, I also decorated the brochure with authentic materials such as fabric and plastic bags after completing it under the help of members I went to consult and asked the people around me to comment on it I'm glad they found this idea very interesting Last of all is an animated gif, this part is not on our planning board, but because the time I finished the project was quite fast, I decided to make a small gif and put it into this project Because this is my first time making a gif, it's still quite simple in design In this gif, I want to encourage people to abandon plastic waste and replace them with environmentally friendly materials I was quite surprised at accomplishing it earlier than I expected In conclusion, I am delighted with myself for completing all tasks in our planning board, as well as fulfilling responsibilities as a secretary of the group 3|Page SOLUTION In this project I have a mission to organize and manage the project Because of that, I kept a record of the problems we encountered during the process to track the progress of the project During project implementation, a lot of problems occurred, however, we tried to use personal skills to solve the problem and complete the work before dealine Some of the problems we encountered were: Disagreement in design, I think this is a big problem and often happens when working in groups We chose to review the theory, analyze, evaluate, vote and get help from the teacher to solve the problem We had problems buying materials to make bags The fabrics we found in the city didn't fit, and the necessities weren't enough, we had to order a sewing machine for making bags The division of working in group means that each member has different tasks, but the computers and software used not match the versions, which makes it very difficult to combine with other member In addition, everyone has a different design style, this does not make up the unity One solution we applied is that all design files of all members are transferred to me to evaluate and synchronize design elements LESSONS The truth is, I had learned a lot of things through this project, such as always have backup and replacement plan in all cases and develop stronger negotiation skills After enroll this course, I realized that well crafted and delivered continuing professional development is important because it delivers benefits to the individual, their profession and the public Continuous professional development helps me continue to make a meaningful contribution to my team This assists me to advance in my career and move into new positions where I can lead, manage, influence, coach and mentor others Moreover, focused Continuous professional development opens me up to new possibilities, new knowledge and new skill areas Continuous professional development can deliver a deeper understanding of what it means to be a professional, along with a greater appreciation of the implications and impacts of my work However I believe the most important things I had learned was how terribly polluted the world I am living in In my country, people rarely talk about or care about matters like plastic contamination and keep using plastic bag as a part of their daily life I also wasn’t thinks about it much until this project that I learned about the alarming level of plastic
